Dodgers Among Favorites to Land Munetaka Murakami, Per Insider

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Munetaka Murakimi is likely going to be one of the biggest headliners in free agency just like Shohei Ohtani was several years ago. With that in mind, it's not too soon to look at possible landing spots for him. MLB insider Jon Heyman lists the Los Angeles Dodgers as a strong possibility. Potential fits for Japanese slugger Munetaka Murakami, per @JonHeyman: Mariners, Dodgers, Mets, Red Sox 🍿 — B/R Walk-Off (@BRWalkoff) August 13, 2025 "No. 2 team I've got is the Dodgers," Heyman said on BR Walkoff. "They're a $400 million payroll team. They're willing to do anything, right? I think Muncy's still got some play left in him, but, you know, they're willing to move things around. They do great with Japanese players. Obviously, they've got superstars already. ... Dodgers, a potential fit, although Muncy's still got a year to go. but they're not going to worry about that $10 or $14 million, whatever he's making, if they can get Murakami." LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - JUNE 19: The Los Angeles Dodgers logo is seen on the top deck elevator before a game against the San Diego Padres4 at Dodger Stadium on June 19, 2025 in Los Angeles, California. MoreMurakimi would make sense for the Dodgers with Muncy aging, and the Dodgers aren't going to worry about the money. Los Angeles does have an advantage over the other teams such as the Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners and New York Mets with having Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Having a strong Japanese presence would help Murakimi feel more at home right away with the Dodgers. Entering Wednesday, Murakimi held a slash line of .311/.391/.611 with the Yakult Swallows this season. Primarily a third baseman, he would provide another a strong bat in the Dodgers' lineup along with Ohtani and Freddie Freeman. Other teams will have chance to sign him, but don't be surprised if Murakimi signs with the Dodgers. More MLB: Blue Jays Trade Deadline Additions Will Lead to 'Uncomfortable Conversations'

The Mets' offense gets a chance to wake up on Wednesday against a familiar face. Carlos Carrasco, who spent three years in Queens from 2021-23, will take the mound for the Braves amid perhaps the worst season of his 16-year big league career. The 38-year-old right-hander has a 6.18 ERA in 10 games (eight starts) this season, and he's not fooling any hitters at all. Batters are hitting .302/.350/.527 against Carrasco with a 10.6 percent barrel rate and a 39.7 percent hard-hit rate. Unsurprisingly, Carrasco has struggled with the long ball. He's given up nine home runs across 43 ⅔ innings, or 1.5 allowed per nine innings on the mound. It's a trend that's plagued the veteran in recent years. Carlos Carrasco #59 of the Atlanta Braves pitches during the first inning against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park on July 31, 2025 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Getty Images Carrasco's 1.74 homers allowed per nine innings since 2023 are the fourth-highest in baseball among pitchers with at least 200 innings pitched over that period. I'm targeting Juan Soto to have a big game against the struggling Carrasco. Soto snapped his power drought last week, hitting a home run in three straight games before logging another two-hit game on Sunday. Learn all you need to know about MLB Betting He's already homered off Carrasco in the past, hitting a three-run dinger off of him in 2021 with the Nationals. Let's see if Soto can help get the Mets back in the win column for the first time in over a week. The plays: Juan Soto to hit a home run (+250, FanDuel) and to have more than 1.5 total bases (-105) Why Trust New York Post Betting Dylan Svoboda is a versatile writer and analyst across many sports.
