UFC 319 video: Alexander Hernandez pulls off buzzer-beating TKO of Chase Hooper
It was a buzzer-beating TKO stoppage in the opening frame for Hernandez (17-8 MMA, 9-7 UFC), who found Chase Hooper's chin to end their lightweight bout at 4:58.
Hooper came forward throughout the round, offering a variety of kicks and spinning attacks. Hernandez stayed light on his feet, defensively sound, and struck when he saw an opening. He found a home for the right hand that dropped Hooper (16-4-1 MMA, 8-4 UFC), and the follow-up punches prompted referee Jason Herzog to stop the fight just before the round ended.
Check out video of the finish below (via Instagram):
With the win, Hernandez extends his winning streak to three, as he entered following decision wins over Austin Hubbard and Kurt Holobaugh. During his post fight interview, Hernandez didn't have a name ready to call out, but he wanted a spot on the Noche UFC card, which takes place in his hometown of San Antonio on Sept. 13.
Hooper sees his five-fight winning streak come to an end. His previous loss was also a first-round TKO stoppage against Steve Garcia in October 2022.

Aaron Pico vows revival after UFC 319 KO loss: 'Last night wasn't my night'
It's safe to say Aaron Pico's UFC debut didn't go as planned. But then again, his MMA debut didn't work out that well, either, and he managed to quickly turn things around. That, no doubt, is what the 28-year-old wrestling standout will be looking to do after he was knocked out cold in his first fight in the promotion in Saturday's UFC 319 co-main event at United Center in Chicago. Pico (13-5 MMA, 0-1 UFC) took the fight against featherweight replacement opponent Lerone Murphy (17-0-1 MMA, 9-0-1 UFC), who stepped in for Movsar Evloev on just about three weeks' notice. He had won nine of his past 10 Bellator fights before that promotion was shuttered by the PFL, and the one loss was from an injury. He came to the UFC as a highly touted Bellator free agent, like several others before him, and Murphy ended his night with a spinning back elbow that likely will be a contender for Knockout of the Year. Pico on Sunday posted on social media that his health was OK and vowed the experience of the loss will make him a better fighter. "Last night wasn't my night, that's the fight game," Pico posted on Instagram. "I'm grateful for my team, my family, and everyone who continues to support me. The supporters that have been there from day one and my new supporters, I see you! Thank you. Wins and losses both teach lessons and I'll come back sharper, stronger, and better prepared. Thank you all who have sent messages and checked in, my health is well. Thanks for riding with me. My story is not over." Pico went 13-4 under the Bellator banner, including one fight under PFL branding. He has 11 of his 13 wins by stoppage, including nine knockouts. He came into his UFC debut with back-to-back first-round knockouts of Pedro Carvalho and Henry Corrales, but it had been 18 months since his win over Corrales – his most recent appearance. In his MMA debut in 2017, he was submitted in just 24 seconds by Zach Freeman at Bellator NYC in Madison Square Garden. It was a major upset after a big build-up for Pico as Bellator's first "blue-chip prospect" that the company and then-owner Viacom planned to build into a superstar. Pico went pro in MMA without a collegiate wrestling career. After he finished high school as the country's top wrestler, he essentially turned pro by signing endorsement deals that included with top-shelf company Nike. He endured the turbulence of a major upset loss in his high-profile MMA debut, and a 4-3 start as a pro. And now, according to his post, he'll have to learn some new lessons in the current speed bump.

UFC's Curtis Blaydes to have surgery, out for remainder of 2025
UFC fans have seen the last of Curtis Blaydes in the octagon this year. Blaydes' most recent appearance came on June 21, when he beat Rizvan Kuniev by split decision at UFC on ABC 8 in Baku, Azerbaijan. It turns out that will be his only fight of 2025 as the perennial heavyweight contender said he is set to undergo surgery Monday. "I'm going to be out the rest of the year," Blaydes said during a fan Q&A before UFC 319 in Chicago. "I injured my meniscus in my last fight. I probably won't be back until January. … I'll be out for eight weeks, but I'm hoping to be back by January." Blaydes, 34, is 2-2 in past four UFC appearances, with wins over Kuniev and Jailton Almeida, and losses to Sergei Pavlovich and reigning UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall in an interim title fight. By the time Blaydes returns, Aspinall and Ciryl Gane will have settled business in their UFC 320 title fight – barring unforeseen circumstances. It'll be Aspinall's first attempt at defending the undisputed heavyweight title, a status he attained after Jon Jones retired and relinquished the belt. While Jones recently re-entered the UFC's drug-testing pool in hopes of competing at the planned UFC White House event next July, Blaydes is happy about his absence and what it means for the foreseeable future. "I'm happy that the heavyweight division is starting to move along. We don't got to worry about Jon Jones no more," Blaydes said. "I think Aspinall beats Gane."
