Liverpool pick out next transfer after Wirtz and Kerkez as £34m deal advanced

Daily Mirror5 hours ago

Arne Slot's Liverpool have already enjoyed a lucrative summer window and they have another big-money swoop in mind should one of their pending deals go through as expected
Liverpool will make a move for Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi as a replacement for Jarell Quansah - who is primed for Bayer Leverkusen. Erik ten Hag is a big fan of the Reds' academy graduate.
The former Manchester United manager sees him as an ideal replacement for Jonathan Tah, with the German defender set to join Bayern Munich this summer. Liverpool are reluctant to sell Quansah this summer but it is thought that a bid of around 40m (£34m) could be enough to convince them to cash-in.

And should they do that, Liverpool chiefs have already picked out his ideal replacement. The Merseysiders are long-term admirers of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.

Liverpool have been monitoring developments over the England star's future with just one year remaining on his Selhurst Park deal. They could however face competition from Newcastle who have also been chasing Guehi over recent seasons.
"I think the most important thing is just always doing the best that I can for this football club," the defender said about his future last year. "I come in every day and I try to be the same.
"I try to work hard. And you know, this football club has given me a lot. I'm still under contract at this football club, so my focus is always at this football club. So, you know, for me, the most important is just doing the best I can and seeing where the future holds."
Meanwhile, both chairman Steve Parish and manager Oliver Glasner have confirmed that Guehi is not actively looking to leave. Speaking in January, the latter said: 'If one is coming and says they want to leave and both clubs find an agreement, I think it will happen. But as long as a player doesn't come — and Marc didn't come — I am really not concerned he will leave.
On Newcastle's failed pursuit last summer, Parish said: "Nobody has got to the valuation yet. If you want a superstar player you need to pay superstar money.

"It's not near the point where we have to make a decision. We love having him and would love to keep him. If someone else wants to have him they need to make it really difficult for us. He's a generational talent."
Guehi, 24, has been with Palace since his 2021 arrival from Chelsea. He has gone on to play 155 games for the club and played a crucial role as the Eagles won the FA Cup last season.
Should Liverpool make a move, he would become the latest big-money addition to the squad this summer. Jeremie Frimpong has already been signed from Bayer Leverkusen, while Florian Wirtz is on the verge of joining him. Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez also looks likely to join the Premier League champions over the coming weeks.

Arsenal mull a move for ANOTHER Premier League rival's star - but could face competition from Chelsea and Tottenham

Arsenal are believed to have discussed Mohammed Kudus at West Ham as a potential transfer target, as have Chelsea and Tottenham. The Gunners are keen to bolster their attacking ranks during the summer transfer window, with a number of strikers and forwards linked with the north London side. Alexander Isak, who features for the club's Premier League rivals Newcastle, was thought to be one of Arsenal's long-range targets, but appears set to stay on Tyneside. The club has also been linked to Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokores, with the Swedish goalscoring behemoth believed to be interested in a move to the Premier League, but frustrated by his current side's unwillingness to let him depart for anything less than his £84million release clause. Other names linked to the club include RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, and Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins. But Mikel Arteta 's side could yet look closer to home for additional firepower, with the forward the focus of interest from a range of Premier League rivals. The Ghana international was a bright spot amid a difficult season at the London Stadium, registering five goals and a further four assists across his 35 appearances in all competitions. But the star comes with a hefty release clause should any side look to secure his services. Amid links to Saudi Arabian sides at the start of the summer, it was revealed that clubs might have to fork out £85m. Arsenal are also thought to be interested in Chelsea star Noni Madueke, with Mail Sport reporting that the winger could be likely to fall down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge as the club continues to recruit heavily. Former Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap kicked off the Blues' summer spending with his £30m deal ahead of the Club World Cup, with Enzo Maresco also drafting in Mamadou Sarr from sister club Strasbourg, and Dario Essugo from Sporting Lisbon.

Why the Premier League has fined Man City £1m

Manchester City have been fined more than £1m by the Premier League for breaching the rules around delayed kick-offs and restarts nine times last season, England's top-flight league said on Thursday. The fine comes a year after City paid £2m to the league for breaching the same game-delay rules. The club accepted and apologised for the rule breaches, and confirmed they have reminded their players and staff of their responsibilities in complying with the rules. "Rules relating to kick-offs and re-starts help ensure the organisation of the competition is set at the highest possible professional standard and provides certainty to fans and participating clubs," the league said in a statement. "It also ensures the broadcast of every Premier League match is kept to schedule." Fines totalling £1m pounds were imposed relating to City's home games against Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, West Ham United and Newcastle United and their away fixtures against Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Ipswich Town. The longest game delays were two minutes 22 seconds each for restarts v West Ham and Ipswich. City are awaiting the verdict of 115 unrelated charges of alleged breaches of the Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules. The charges cover a period starting from 2009 and continuing into the 2022-23 season. City have always denied any wrongdoing.
