Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik blaze into Singapore Open final, ready to avenge earlier loss to South Korean rivals
KUALA LUMPUR, June 1 — Red-hot Malaysian men's doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik have blazed their way into the Singapore Open 2025 final, where they will face Kim Won Ho-Seo Seung Jae of South Korea, today.
The world No. 3 pair have been in great form this season, having captured the Thailand Open title on May 18 and finishing as runners-up at the Malaysia Masters last week.
However, Aaron-Wooi Yik will need to be cautious, as they lost to the Korean pair in their previous encounter at the India Open 2025 in January.
Won Ho-Seung Jae cruised to the final after defeating Danish pair, Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, 21-17 and 21-16.
Aaron-Wooi Yik, the third seeds, showcased their class and composure by ousting India's duo, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty, 19-21, 21-10, 21-18 in 64 minutes.
It was a dominant display from the Malaysians to mark their 10th victory after 13 head-to-head encounters against the Indian pair and Wooi Yik described the semi-final clash against the Indian duo as a high-quality match.
'I think every point was very important for us. Even when we were leading by one or two points, we couldn't relax, we had to stay focused because they had many strategies and every shot was critical,' he said in a BWF audio recording shared with the media.
When asked about the title showdown today, Aaron said: 'The focus is on giving our all, one step at a time: The most important thing now is to rest well and recover properly for the match. We know it's going to be a tough one.' — Bernama

ISKANDAR PUTERI, June 3 — Police arrested a 33-year-old man just three hours after he allegedly attempted to rob a teenage girl and her grandmother at a house in Gelang Patah here on Sunday. Iskandar Puteri district police chief ACP M Kumarasan said in the 11.30am incident, the victims, a 14-year-old Chinese national and her grandmother, in her 70s, were at home when they were confronted by an unknown man. 'The suspect ordered the victims to hand over their valuables before choking one of them, resulting in a struggle between the suspect and both victims. 'The suspect then fled the scene after failing to obtain the valuables. Both victims sustained injuries and were referred to the hospital for treatment,' he said in a statement today. Acting on information received, a team from the Iskandar Puteri district police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Division together with officers from the Tanjung Kupang police station arrested the suspect at around 2.30pm on the same day. A background check revealed that the suspect has two prior criminal records, while the initial urine screening test came back negative for drugs. 'Police also seized a T-shirt and a pair of shorts believed to have been worn during the incident. The suspect has been remanded for seven days from June 2 to June 8 to assist in the investigations,' he added. The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery. The offence is punishable by up to 20 years' imprisonment and may also include a fine or whipping, if convicted. KTM Komuter, ETS timetables tweaked for upgrading works from Saturday
KTMB had postponed the upgrading works to ensure smooth travel for passengers in the Klang Valley during the 46th Asean Summit. (Bernama pic) KUALA LUMPUR : Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) will carry out upgrading works to its signalling system along the route between Kepong Station and Salak Selatan Station from Saturday to June 2. There will be adjustments to the timetables for KTM Komuter services in the Klang Valley and electric train services (ETS) during the period. KTM Komuter services on the Pulau Sebang-Batu Caves-Pulau Sebang, and Tanjung Malim-KL Sentral-Tanjung Malim routes, as well as ETS services are expected to see delays of up to 50 minutes from their original schedules. In addition, two ETS services – EG9425 (Padang Besar to Segamat) and EG9321 (Butterworth to Segamat) – will have platform changes at the KL Sentral and Kuala Lumpur Stations, but only on May 31. 'Officers will be on duty at the stations to guide and assist passengers to the correct platforms,' it said. Previously, KTMB postponed the upgrading works to ensure smooth travel for passengers in the Klang Valley during the 46th Asean Summit. This was after the closure of several major roads in the Klang Valley, and the government's recommendation for the rakyat to use public transport to ease traffic congestion.

PETALING JAYA : PKR has not discussed the creation of an appointed post of deputy president purportedly proposed by Nurul Izzah Anwar, says youth chief Kamil Munim. 'As far as I know, such a post has not been discussed,' he told FMT. This comes after Rafizi Ramli, who lost the race for the PKR deputy presidency to Nurul Izzah, claimed that she had proposed the creation of the post for him to fill. Rafizi said he turned down the offer, which was made when they met before the PKR elections, adding that he would not be interested even if there was a post for an 'appointed party president'. Nurul Izzah did not confirm or deny making the proposal, but said she simply wanted to help the party close ranks and bolster its values after the internal elections.
