Rio Ferdinand lands 'surprise new Man United role' - as Premier League icon prepares to replace him on TNT Sports
The former United defender stepped away from his punditry role with TNT Sports in May after more than a decade of service.
During the club's tour of the United States this summer, the 46-year-old was involved in media and commercial content.
That included keeping a tour diary, documenting his travels around New York and Chicago and sharing his thoughts on the team's performances.
He also starred on-camera in player interviews and helped out with matchday content as part of a short-term deal.
According to The Sun, Ferdinand is 'likely' continue to work with them on a freelance basis over the next few months in a similar capacity.

The same applies to Gary Neville, though he will have his ongoing commitment with Sky Sports.
Meanwhile, Gareth Bale has joined TNT Sports as Ferdinand's replacement, as per The Guardian.
Bale will work with the broadcaster across their Premier League and Champions League coverage for the 2025-26 campaign.
The former Tottenham, Real Madrid, and Wales star has already dipped his toe into punditry for a handful of games last season.
He made his 'debut' for TNT Sports in the Champions League when Liverpool beat Real Madrid 2-0 and also took up a mic in the Europa League final between Spurs and Manchester United.
Bale was also involved in DAZN and Channel 5's coverage of the Club World Cup.
Speaking about his TNT Sports exit earlier this season, Ferdinand said: 'Since retiring from football it has been a privilege talking about the game I love for a decade for sports fans watching on BT Sport and TNT Sports.
'I want to acknowledge the tremendous support from the team behind the scenes whose hard work often goes unseen but has been essential to our success.
Gareth Bale will reportedly replace Ferdinand at TNT Sports for the coming campaign
'To everyone at TNT Sports, we have a brilliant end to the season to look forward to on Saturday and for now all focus will be on what I think could go down as one of the great European finals.
'The network continues to thrive with more rights than ever. I know I look forward to following its progress and the exciting future that lies ahead.
'Lastly I would like to thank my family and my management company New Era for their ongoing support. They have supported me to travel all over Europe following the best players and watching the best matches.'
'I'm excited about what the future holds, spending more time with my family focusing on Rio Ferdinand Presents and my other business interests.
'I hope to stay connected with all of you in different capacities. Thank you once again for everything.'
There were reports that he had been planning to move to Dubai with his wife Kate Ferdinand and their family.

New recruit Eskesen aims to showcase 'technical skills'
Julius Eskesen can't wait to get stuck into "raw, proper football" with Dundee United after making the move from Norwegian side FK Haugesund. The midfielder, who has arrived at Tannadice on a two-year deal, told club media, external: "I'm a player that loves to play with emotion and I think this is a good match and that's something we have in common."I can imagine there is quite some intensity around matchdays."I'm definitely going to play against some really good players and with some good players. "For Dundee United I think top six is the first goal for the season and then go further on in all competitions."Although Eskesen won't be available for Thursday night's Conference League qualifier second leg against Rapid Vienna, the 26-year-old hopes the team will get the job done and give him the chance to feature in the play-off round. "I would love to," he added."The guys have to finish the good work they've put in so far but that's something every footballer dreams of, to play in European competitions."

Lou Teasdale says she dumped Andy Carroll despite claims he ended things
Influencer Lou Teasdale has denied reports that former England striker Andy Carroll broke up with her, claiming instead that she was the one to end the relationship. The split comes just over a year after the pair began dating and a few weeks after reports that they were questioned twice by police in Greece following heated rows during a Mykonos getaway. Carroll, 36, has now unfollowed Teasdale, 41, on social media and removed all photos of her from his Instagram. This comes after previous rumours that Carroll was set to propose to Teasdale. According to a source quoted in The Sun, the ex-Liverpool and Newcastle forward had grown frustrated with Teasdale's 'influencer lifestyle' and constant social media posting. 'He told her it was over this week. He's single now,' the insider said. But it seems like things might not be that simple. A conflicting source told the Daily Mail: 'It was Lou who ended her relationship with Andy, she walked away a few days ago, it was very much her choice to end their romance. 'She isn't interested in pointing the finger or blaming him and hoped to deal with their split in private, before he blocked her on Instagram and deleted their photos together. 'Lou is very upset by how everything has played out and the arguments between them were especially difficult for her to go through. 'However, Andy wants Lou back and flew to Ibiza via private jet on Tuesday just to find her, even though he has no idea where she's staying. 'He will think it's a romantic gesture but for Lou, she's unimpressed and just wants to be away with her family, she's not interested in any of his attempts at a reconciliation. 'All she has done all year is love and support Andy, her feelings haven't gone away, but Lou has to protect herself now and ending the relationship is the only way to move forward.' The couple's relationship had appeared solid as recently as late July, when they were seen together at an Oasis concert. But their Greek holiday weeks earlier told a different story. Witnesses say the first argument erupted at the Nikolus Tavern, where Carroll allegedly appeared drunk and was overheard swearing at Teasdale. Police were called, but allowed him to leave after speaking privately. Later that night, officers were reportedly called again to their hotel amid claims of property damage, with staff alleging a door was broken. According to The Daily Mail, Carroll was taken to the police station for questioning, but he was not arrested, and no further action was taken. Teasdale left the hotel and stayed elsewhere for the night. Both Carroll and Teasdale downplayed the incidents at the time, describing the restaurant row as 'a private disagreement' blown out of proportion and insisting no one was arrested or charged. The incident was confirmed by a hotel employee, who claimed Carroll broke the door. A joint statement from the couple given to The Sun said: 'Whilst having a private dinner in a restaurant on a quiet holiday in Mykonos, we had a heated discussion of the sort that most couples have had on occasion. It quickly became apparent to the police that there was no reason for them to be there. 'We went outside the restaurant with them together as they insisted they wanted to 'look after' us. 'As far as we are concerned, the situation has been blown out of all proportion by an interested member of the public. No one was arrested and no one was charged with anything. We are very happy, in love and looking forward to our future together and we are disappointed that a private disagreement has become a public matter.' Carroll's return to the UK last month with National League side Dagenham & Redbridge marks the end of a two-year stint in France. Friends say he now wants to focus on football and his five children, three of whom he shares with ex-wife Billi Mucklow. Carroll confirmed his separation from Towie star Mucklow last September. After nearly 10 years together, Carroll and Mucklow tied the knot in 2022, but the former couple split last year after a turbulent marriage, which had already survived a near-scandal in 2022 when Carroll was photographed asleep next to two women during his stag party. More Trending On the day that the news of Carroll's separation from Teasdale broke, Mucklow took to social media to show she was all smiles in a brown bikini while on holiday with her family. A source told Metro in April that rumours of Carroll's possible engagement to Teasdale were not surprising to Mucklow: 'Billi isn't surprised that Andy is rushing down the aisle again. Her marriage to him didn't last very long and he moved on so quickly with Lou that nothing he does is surprising to her anymore. 'Her main focus will always be the children and moving on with her own life.' View More » Once Britain's most expensive footballer after his £35 million move to Liverpool in 2011, Carroll's personal life has often made more headlines than his career in recent years. Marcus Rashford believes Man United are stuck in ‘no man's land'
Marcus Rashford, now on loan at Barcelona, has criticised Manchester United, stating the club is stuck 'in no man's land'. He attributes United's struggles to a lack of consistent principles and a reactionary approach to management and player recruitment. United endured their worst top-flight season in decades under Ruben Amorim, finishing 15th in the Premier League. Rashford suggests United should learn from Liverpool's patient approach with Jurgen Klopp, who was given time to implement his vision.
