As the humid South Carolina summer inches closer to kickoff, all eyes are on the established stars at Clemson. Quarterback Cade Klubnik's continued development, the explosive potential of receivers like Antonio Williams and Bryant Wesco, and the disruptive force of defensive linemen Peter Woods and T.J. Parker are all fueling championship aspirations in Death Valley. But in a program known for trusting its youth, a pair of true freshmen are already generating significant buzz and are expected to be more than just sideline observers.

With the highly anticipated season opener against LSU looming, CBS Sports has identified the nation's top incoming freshmen ready to make an immediate impact, and two of Dabo Swinney's prized recruits have landed in the top 10. This infusion of young talent could be the key to Clemson's return to the College Football Playoff conversation.

Leading the charge for the Tigers' newcomers is four-star running back Gideon Davidson, who clocked in at an impressive No. 3 on the list. With the unfortunate ACL tear to leading returning rusher Jay Haynes, the door is wide open in the Clemson backfield, and Davidson appears poised to sprint right through it.
"No blue-chip running back from the 2025 class enters a better situation for early playing time than Davidson," wrote Chris Hummer of CBS Sports. "Everyone else in the room has even less experience or...is new to the position...That's what makes Davidson so intriguing."

The Lynchburg, Virginia native, ranked as the No. 4 running back in the nation by On3, has already turned heads in practice. Swinney, not one for empty praise, has been effusive in his assessment of the early enrollee.
"He's physically impressive," Swinney remarked during spring ball. "Just further along than I thought he would be coming in. He doesn't look like a high school kid. He looks like a kid that's been in college about three years. He's really thick. Strong. Explosive."
On the other side of the ball, the Tigers boast another potential game-changer in five-star defensive tackle Amare Adams. In Swinney's system, which famously shies away from the transfer portal, freshmen who are ready to contribute often get their chance. Adams, a force in the trenches, is expected to be one of those players.
Hummer noted, "Swinney plays more freshmen than any other blueblood coach...Adams will be one of those freshmen." He highlighted Adams' "massive, powerful" frame and his ability to "consistently [generate] backfield pressure," projecting him as a key rotational piece alongside star defensive tackle Peter Woods.

The local product from South Florence High School was rated the No. 2 defensive lineman and No. 7 overall player in his class by 247Sports. With injuries to other linemen during the spring, Adams was thrown into the fire and proved he could handle the heat.
"He's gonna help us. That's what we've seen," Swinney stated definitively. "He's big and he moves people and he knows how to win. He can destruct blocks. He's twitchy. He's smart. Big, strong, destructive human being."
While the veterans will undoubtedly lead the charge when Clemson and LSU square off under the lights on August 30th, the emergence of Davidson and Adams could provide the critical depth and dynamic playmaking that separates a good season from a championship one. The countdown is on, and in Clemson, the future is now.

LSU baseball schedule update: When do Tigers play next College World Series game?

LSU baseball beat UCLA in Game 8 of the College World Series on Tuesday morning. The game began on Monday night, but only three innings were played before the weather forced a suspension. With the win, LSU avoided having to play Arkansas in a double-header on Tuesday night. Instead, UCLA will meet the Razorbacks in an elimination contest. Advertisement When is LSU's next College World Series game? LSU is scheduled to face the winner of Arkansas-UCLA on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. CT. The game will be carried on ESPN. Regardless of opponent, it will be a rematch for the Tigers. LSU opened the CWS with a 4-1 win against Arkansas on Saturday. As we saw on Monday, there's always a chance that weather forces a change. Rain is expected in Omaha on Tuesday, which could force UCLA and Arkansas to be finished on Wednesday. If that's the case, officials have to make a decision on when to play the Bracket 2 final. At 2-0, LSU is in a good spot. The Tigers are one win away from punching a ticket to the College World Series final. LSU can lose on Wednesday and still get another crack at advancing on Thursday. Fever's Sophie Cunningham receives praise for having Caitlin Clark's back in wild game vs Sun

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham received praise on social media Tuesday night as she appeared to defend Caitlin Clark with a hard foul on Connecticut Sun guard Jacy Sheldon. Cunningham and Sheldon's heated exchange turned into a shoving match before players from both teams came over to break it up. Cunningham, Sheldon and Sun guard Lindsay Allen were ejected from the game with about 40 seconds left before the Fever took home the victory. The hard foul came after Sheldon poked Clark in the eye in the third quarter. Sun guard Marina Mabrey then shoved Clark to the ground in what was a chippy affair. As the Fever put away the Sun 88-71, Cunningham was congratulated for stepping up as the team's enforcer. Fever head coach Stephanie White was upset with how the referees officiated the game and about the inability to take control. "I think it was pretty obvious that stuff was brewing," White said, via Indy Star. "When officials don't get control of the ball game, when they allow that stuff to happen … it's been happening all season long, all season long. It's not just this game. "This is what happens. You've got competitive women who are the best in the world at what they do and when you allow them to play physical, and you allow these things to happen, they're gonna compete, and they're gonna have their teammates' backs. It's exactly what you would expect out of fierce competition. "I started talking to officials in the first quarter, and we knew this was gonna happen. You knew this was gonna happen. They gotta get control of it. They gotta be better. They gotta be better." Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Bucky wins competitive wiener dog derby. His training was playing fetch.

When Adriana Smith brought her dachshund Bucky to the seventh annual Meadowlands Racetrack Wiener Dog Derby, she wasn't expecting much. Last year he didn't even finish the race. 'He got lost,' Smith said. 'He had no idea where he was going.' But, to Smith's shock, Bucky had laserlike focus this year. He didn't get lost. Egged on by the roaring crowd of thousands, Bucky's tiny legs carried him over the finish line ahead of the other sausage dogs. He had outrun 79 other wieners to clinch the championship.
