While some praised his boldness, others felt the jokes fell flat or crossed a line. The moment set a controversial tone for the evening, generating plenty of conversation both inside the venue and across social media.

After the monologue, Gillis took a jab at Caitlin Clark, who was absent from the ceremony due to injury.
"When Caitlin Clark retires from the WNBA, she's going to work at a Waffle House so she can continue doing what she loves most: fist fighting Black women," he joked.
— BricksCenter (@BricksCenter)
While some in the audience chuckled at the joke, others shifted uncomfortably, reflecting a mixed reaction to the dig.
Gillis pressed on for 10 minutes, delivering edgy jokes that included jabs at President Trump and controversial references to Jeffrey Epstein, whose sex trafficking case continues to cast a shadow over the Justice Department and FBI.
Gillis pivoted to Donald Trump's much-discussed idea of hosting a
UFC fight
on the White House lawn, using it as a setup to deliver a biting joke that roped in former Vice President Mike Pence and the January 6 Capitol riots, drawing a mix of laughter and uneasy silence from the audience.
"Donald Trump wants to stage a UFC fight on the White House lawn," he said. "The last time he staged a fight in DC, Mike Pence almost died."

Gillis' opening joke targeting North Carolina coach
Bill Belichick
and his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, drew some of the biggest laughs of the night, setting a bold tone for the monologue.
"A bookie is what Bill Belichick reads to his girlfriend before bed time," he said. "They read 'The Very Horny Caterpillar,' 'The Little Engine That Could But Needed a Pill First' and of course the classic 'Goodnight Boobs'."
However, as Gillis continued his set, the reaction turned mixed, with some in the audience laughing hesitantly while others remained visibly uncomfortable.
"He won six Super Bowls. He's dating a hot 24 year old. Maybe if you guys won six Super Bowls you wouldn't be sitting next to a fat ugly dog wife."
NBA Finals MVP
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
cracked a smile when Gillis quipped, "SGA is here. Everybody sitting around him is in foul trouble," drawing laughter from parts of the crowd.
— TheNBACentel (@TheNBACentel)
Before wrapping up, a smiling Gillis addressed the crowd with a self-aware remark: "I see a lot of you don't like me, and that's OK. That's it for me. That went about exactly how we all thought it was going to go. I don't know why this happened."

Aanand L Rai in shock as production house plans to re-release 'Raanjhanaa' with AI-powered climax: 'They may change 'Sholay' climax by keeping Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra's characters alive'

Aanand L Rai 's 'Raanjhanaa' is set to return to theatres on August 1 as it celebrates 12 years since its release in 2013. The movie ends with Dhanush's character, Kundan, dying after being shot at a political rally. The storyline has remained memorable for fans who appreciated its tragic depth. The makers have stirred a storm with the announcement of an alternate climax for the movie, which is reportedly created using Artificial Intelligence. Aanand reacted to the new announcement and shared his disappointment. Director Not Informed of AI-Driven Climax Change Recently shared posters of 'Raanjhanaa' had a line in them about having a different climax using AI for its re-release. Rai, who directed and co-produced the original under his banner, was neither consulted nor informed prior to the studio's decision. 'I got to know through a social media announcement a couple of days ago. People have already been messaging me asking me why that ending is being changed. I just can't wrap my head around this,' he shared in an interview with The Indian Express. He reached out to the film's production house, owned by Krishika Lulla, but his objections were dismissed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo He now plans to formally request that his name be removed from the reworked version. Rai said, 'I don't get it, how can they do this? It's an ending people have loved! If not the filmmaker, at least listen to the audience.' He further criticised the need for a so-called 'happy ending'. 'What is a happy ending? It's a tragedy, that's an emotion. How can you meddle with emotions? The voice of the film lies in that ending,' he added. Raanjhanaa: 'Tu Mun Shudi' song A Cautionary Tale for Filmmakers Rai further shared that the only lesson he has learnt from this is that he will be more careful in the future while signing any contracts with no clear clause in it. He also wanted other filmmakers to learn from his incident. 'A studio doesn't care about the story. Just to earn a few crores, they're tampering with a writer, director, and actor's creation,' he stated. AI Recut Reportedly Sold in Tamil Nadu The production house had reportedly sold the altered version to a Tamil Nadu-based distributor. Rai believes that they are trying to test the market in Tamil Nadu with it, and they might have paid them some money already. He called it a crime and admitted that his hero (Dhanush) has a strong presence there, which may affect his stardom. Rai feels the studio is prioritising quick profits over creative integrity. 'They'll realise it soon, when the actors and the audience get back to them. No actors would want to work with them now. Maybe they don't want to work with actors anymore. They plan to make films with AI only,' he shared. Aanand is not against the use of AI He further clarified that he is not against the use of AI, but changing the past using the technology sounds ridiculous to him. 'Next thing we know, they may change the climax of Sholay (1975) by keeping both Jai (Amitabh Bachchan) and Veeru (Dharmendra) alive,' he concluded. About Raanjhanaa 'Raanjhanaa' featured Dhanush, Sonam Kapoor , Abhay Deol, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, and Swara Bhaskar in key roles.

Social media can't keep calm as Trump labels 'Epstein hoax'

It was hard not to pause and double-check when a photo of Jack Posobiec carrying the 'declassified' and very controversial Epstein files went viral on the internet. No one could ignore the irony, and especially not the hawk-eyed netizens. While the Epstein files have been at the centre of the controversy since 2016, this time it was the cover of the binder that caught our attention. The binder, labeled 'The Epstein Files: Phase 1', complete with a Department of Justice seal, also came with a little humble description of the department itself. The description read as follows: 'The Most Transparent Administration in History.' This declaration was followed by 'The 45th and 47th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump'. The label on the folder may have sounded like satire, it wasn't. It was a show, a declaration, a performance of transparency. But behind the pageantry lies a stunning reversal that even Trump's most diehard followers are struggling to defend. For years, Trump and his circle leaned heavily into the idea of releasing 'everything' about Jeffrey Epstein. And Trump's followers were impatiently waiting for their dear President to expose what is in those files, but for all the promises and rhetoric, Trump has failed on his promise. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Villas in Dubai | Search Ads Get Info Undo And not just that, he has asked his followers to move on from the past and forget about, probably one of the most controversial cases involving the rich and the powerful. 'Don't waste Time and Energy on Jeffrey Epstein, somebody that nobody cares about,' he posted on Truth Social, a stunning statement given how much political capital he previously poured into the Epstein saga. But no one is convinced. In the comment section of the post, people really wrote what they thought out, including people showing disappointment in their President. One user wrote, 'Yes, the most transparently corrupt and criminal administrations in US history, bar none.' A second user pointed out, 'The WHOLE reason people believe that it's all a bunch of politicians who are the clients is because why else wouldn't there be ANY clients? None? The ONLY answer is that it is a cover-up for people in power or influence or money..' A third user retorted sharply, 'Who knew phase 2 was denying the list ever existed besides fucking everyone.'

Oppn slams govt over hospital killing

Patna: The opposition in Bihar on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Nitish Kumar-led govt over the law and order situation after a convicted prisoner was shot dead inside a private hospital in Patna. Citing the daylight murder as evidence of administrative collapse, several political leaders expressed alarm at the state's deteriorating security environment. Independent MP from Purnia, Pappu Yadav, met governor Arif Mohammed Khan and demanded the imposition of President's Rule. "The entire system has collapsed in Bihar. The only option left is the imposition of President's Rule in the state," he told the reporters. Yadav alleged that Bihar is currently governed not by CM Nitish Kumar but by "the BJP and bureaucrats," adding, "There is nothing left in Bihar except for the fact that the politics of leaders go unhindered. " Leader of opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav echoed the concern. "The law and order situation has completely gone out of order in Bihar. Today itself, as many as five murders took place by 12 noon. No one is safe here. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like What's Really Going On in These 45 Unbelievable Photos? "Brij Bihari Prasad, a minister in the then Rabri Devi govt, was gunned down under judicial custody within the premises of a govt hospital in Patna. You must know," Kumar said.
