Costacurta: Inter will learn from mistakes in Champions League Final

Yahoo19-05-2025
Alessandro Costacurta believes Inter's slip-up in Serie A will lead to a positive reaction from the team ahead of the imminent Champions League Final: 'They have understood they can't give up one centimetre.'
Inter wasted a golden chance to overtake Napoli at the top of the Serie A table last night as they were held to a 2-2 home draw by Lazio, while the Partenopei picked up a point in a 0-0 stalemate in Parma.

This means the Nerazzurri are still second in the table, one point below Antonio Conte's men with one game remaining.
Inter are also preparing for the Champions League Final, and Sky Sport asked Italy and Milan legend Costacurta how the team would react to the latest disappointment in the league.

'I believe positively. I think Inter have understood they can't give up one centimetre,' Costacurta replied via FcInter1908.
'These kinds of challenges are beneficial. Those goals help you grow, and then you know how to react well. We saw it against Barcelona. The team knows how to respond well when they come out of moments like that.'

The Nerazzurri will play the final game of the Serie A campaign away at Como on Friday, while Napoli will host Cagliari.

Ligue 1: A strong start for Moussa Niakhaté and OL

Lyon kick off with a valuable away win at Lens (0-1). Ligue 1 : OL 1-0 RC Lens / Photo : Madeinfoot Moussa Niakhaté and Olympique Lyonnais have kicked off their 2025-2026 campaign in style. The Rhodanians claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory away at Lens on Saturday night in the opening round of Ligue 1. Georges Mikautadze netted the only goal of the match right at the end of the first half. The Senegalese defender and his teammates delivered a rock-solid performance against Racing Club de Lens on August 16, 2025, in front of nearly 38,000 fans at the Bollaert-Delelis stadium. The decisive moment came from a surging run down the right by Malick Fofana, with Georges Mikautadze darting in at the near post to steer home the game's only goal (45+1'). At the back, Rémy Descamps produced a string of crucial saves to keep Lyon ahead, notably denying Florian Thauvin, who came off the bench to inject energy into Lens' attack. After the match, Moussa Niakhaté emphasized the importance of this win, secured in a tense atmosphere. The Lyon club narrowly avoided administrative relegation over the summer, but the management managed to steady the ship. The defender stressed the need to deliver on the pitch. "I spoke just before the match. I told them the management and the board had done their part. It was up to us to keep OL in Ligue 1. There was a lot of talk all summer, these past two or three months. Now it's on us to get the job done. They delivered in the offices, now it's up to us on the pitch. (…) We're just happy to have won this match," Niakhaté said.

Hoffenheim: Gift Orban set for Ligue 1 return

The Nigerian striker could bounce back at Toulouse after a mixed spell in the Bundesliga. Gift Orban / Hoffenheim Gift Orban is edging closer to a return to Ligue 1. The Hoffenheim forward, who previously played for Olympique Lyonnais, could join Toulouse on loan with a purchase option. The German club is considering his departure as early as this August. The Nigerian striker left Lyon last January for Hoffenheim after an up-and-down year in the Rhône. Signed by OL from Gent for €14 million, he failed to live up to expectations. His stint was limited to 16 appearances and three goals before he was gradually sidelined by Pierre Sage. A mixed spell in the Bundesliga At Hoffenheim, Gift Orban made a promising start with four goals in his first six Bundesliga outings. However, that momentum soon faded. Injuries and a dip in form hampered his progress, eventually relegating him to the bench. The German club no longer counts on him and is seeking a way out. According to Footmercato, Toulouse have positioned themselves to bring him in. TFC, searching for attacking reinforcements, failed in their pursuit of Willem Geubbels, who has since joined Paris FC. The Ligue 1 club is now considering reviving Orban to address the shortcomings exposed during their summer pre-season matches.

Richard Hughes FINALLY makes decision over Federico Chiesa

's Liverpool fate appeared sealed earlier this summer. The Italian, 27, had suffered a frustrating first season at Anfield following his transfer from Juventus in 2024. He arrived injured and he ended up playing only six times in the Premier League. In truth the Italy international barely moved the dial in his outings in other competitions either - and there appeared to be plenty of interest from clubs in Serie A. 🔴 🚨2025/26 LFC x adidas range🚨 LFC x adidas Shop the away range TODAY LFC x adidas Shop the home range today! But in a stunning turnaround, Chiesa now seems like a genuine first-team option for head coach Arne Slot. Chiesa completes stunning Liverpool turnaround Liverpool have ended up selling Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez - leaving the Reds slightly light on numbers up top. Chiesa and Rio Ngumoha were among the substitutes for the season opener against Bournemouth on Friday night - and it was the former Juventus star who was sprung from the bench with the Reds needing inspiration. He duly delivered a goal to make it 3-2 with just minutes to spare – giving him an unlikely springboard to relaunch his Merseyside career. Liverpool 'unequivocal' over Chiesa Indeed it's now being reported in Italy that Liverpool have decided that Chiesa is going NOWHERE. That's according to a new report in Gazzetta dello Sport - which claims meetings have taken place between the club and Chiesa's entourage this week. '[Chiesa] has had a direct meeting with his manager, just as his agent Ramadani has met with Liverpool's management,' the report reads. 'The answers were unequivocal: Federico is needed by the club, given that recent transfer market moves have reduced the number of wingers in the squad.' © IMAGO - Arne Slot Federico Chiesa Liverpool 2024-25
