Alabama Flips 4-Star RB From Big Ten Program
Entering June, the Alabama Crimson Tide had just five hard commits for the 2026 class, a stark contrast from their elite recruiting efforts in years prior.

On Monday, Alabama landed their fourth verbal commit in the last three weeks in the form of four-star running back Javari Barnett.
An Illinois Fighting Illini commit, Barnett flipped his commitment to the SEC power. Barnett visited Tuscaloosa this weekend, marking just his second official visit of his recruitment, with the running back touring Illinois last April.

Head coach Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide staff undoubtedly made a good impression on Barnett, as the Tampa, Florida native ditched his plans to join the Fighting Illini.
Barnett is the second of two commitment flips for the Alabama Crimson Tide on Monday. Alongside Barnett, three-star safety Rihyael Kelley flipped his commitment from the Rutgers Scarlet Knights to the Tide.

As for Barnett, he becomes the first running back to give a verbal commitment to the Crimson Tide for 2026. At Tampa Bay Tech last season, the six-foot rusher averaged 83 rushing yards per game on 8.3 yards per attempt. He ran for 482 yards and eight touchdowns the year prior.
Alabama's 2026 recruiting group continues to strengthen as the summer months continue. According to 247Sports, they now have the 28th-ranked recruiting class for 2026, following the verbal commitments of Barnett and Kelley. Five-star cornerback Jorden Edmonds highlights the recruiting class. He is the top-ranked corner in the country and the second best player in the state of Georgia, according to the 247Sports database.

Yankees tie club record with 9 home runs in 13-3 win over Rays
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Giancarlo Stanton and Cody Bellinger both hit two home runs, Aaron Judge launched his 40th of the season and the New York Yankees matched a franchise record with nine longballs Tuesday night in a 13-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Judge, Bellinger and Stanton went back-to-back-to-back in the first inning to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead four batters into the game — after the first pitch was delayed nearly two hours by rain. José Caballero connected twice for his first career multihomer game. Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Ben Rice also went deep for the Yankees, who won their fourth straight and looked awfully comfortable in a road game at their spring training home. New York took full advantage of the cozy dimensions before a crowd of 10,046 at George M. Steinbrenner Field, where the Rays are playing while Tropicana Field undergoes repairs. Bellinger finished 4 for 5 with three RBIs. Following the long rain delay, Shane Baz (8–10) gave up Judge's 429-foot shot to center field. Bellinger followed with a 381-foot drive to right, and Stanton lined a 386-footer to right-center. Baz allowed six runs and seven hits, including five homers, in three innings. He has yielded 29 earned runs in his last 28 innings (9.32 ERA) over six starts. Carlos Rodón (13-7) earned the win, allowing two runs in six innings. New York also hit nine home runs in its second game of the season, a 20-9 victory over Milwaukee on March 29 at Yankee Stadium. Key moment The Yankees became the first team in major league history to hit back-to-back-to-back homers in the first inning three times in one season (also March 29 and April 29). Key stat Judge became the fourth Yankees player with at least four 40-homer seasons, joining Babe Ruth (11), Lou Gehrig (5) and Mickey Mantle (4). Judge hit 52 homers in 2017, 62 in 2022 and 58 in 2024. Up next Rays RHP Drew Rasmussen (10-5, 2.60 ERA) starts Wednesday against Yankees rookie Cam Schlittler (1–2, 3.94). ___ AP MLB: Kristie Ackert, The Associated Press

Draymond Green sparks Jimmy Butler dialogue over Heat's Haywood Highsmith trade
Draymond Green sparks Jimmy Butler dialogue over Heat's Haywood Highsmith trade originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area 'Don't put that evil on me, Ricky Bobby! I had nothing to do with it!' Jimmy Butler channeled his inner Will Ferrell when Draymond Green dragged him into a back-and-forth on social media over the weekend. The exchange took place after the Miami Heat traded forward Haywood Highsmith to the Brooklyn Nets on Friday. The trade sent Highsmith and a 2032 second-round pick to the Nets in exchange for a protected 2026 second-round pick. Highsmith was looked at as a key piece to Miami's future while Butler still was with the team before the Feb. 5 trade to the Warriors, but Green appears to believe the praise, by some, was exaggerated. Highsmith averaged 24.6 minutes per game last season with the Heat, while scoring only 6.5 PPG. Butler averaged 17.5 PPG last season, which puts these two in completely different categories. The Heat reportedly made offers to the Phoenix Suns for now-Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant this offseason, but Miami team president Pat Riley was unwilling to include young assets like Highsmith. The complexities of Butler's relationship with the Heat organization ultimately were unreconcilable in the end, but he seems much more at home now with the Warriors and isn't too excited to contribute to Green's social media banter. Panthers Defenseman Invited To Team USA's Olympic Orientation Camp
Florida Panthers defenseman Seth Jones has been invited to Team USA's Olympic orientation camp. The camp, scheduled for Aug. 26 and 27, is mainly for administrative and team-building purposes and does not feature any formal on-ice activity or public component. Earlier in August, Team Canada unveiled their orientation camp roster, which was headlined by five Panthers players: Sam Bennett, Aaron Ekblad, Brad Marchand, Sam Reinhart and Carter Verhaeghe. Jones is one of the newest Panthers, but his impressive track record goes beyond his time in Florida. Jones was the fourth overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, and has represented Team USA at the U-17s, U-18s, World Junior Championship and the World Championship. Jones won gold at the U-18s twice, the World Juniors once, while bringing home a silver medal at the U-17s and bronze at the World Championship. Jones is a minute muncher with good offensive instincts. He's a strong skater for a defenseman with a 6-foot-4 frame, but earning a spot on the American roster will be a challenge. The 30-year-old was left off the 4 Nations Face-Off roster and is one of the 16 defensemen invited to the orientation camp. The Americans don't lack talented offensive defenders, but require shutdown blueliners, something Jones could develop into this season.
