Berlusconi family leaving soccer again with sale of relegated Monza to American fund
Fininvest, the Berlusconi's family holding company, announced the deal in a statement Tuesday.
'The transaction provides for an initial transfer of 80% of the shares by this summer, with the remaining 20% to be transferred by June 2026,' it said.
Fininvest purchased Monza in 2018 and oversaw the club's rise from the third division to Serie A. But the club based just outside Milan finished last in the recently concluded Serie A season and was relegated to Serie B.
Fininvest was previously controlled by the late Silvio Berlusconi — the three-time Italian premier who died in 2023. Berlusconi owned AC Milan from 1986 to 2017.
BLV is paying about 30 million euros ($35 million) for Monza, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport. Financial details of the deal were not announced.

Giants exercise contract option on manager Bob Melvin for the 2026 season
Associated Press SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The San Francisco Giants showed their confidence in manager Bob Melvin on Tuesday, exercising his contract option for the 2026 season. San Francisco was 45-40 and in third place in the NL West heading into the second game of a four-game set at Arizona on Tuesday night. The 63-year-old Melvin left the San Diego Padres to return home to the Bay Area and manage the Giants last year for the job he always dreamed of doing as a former catcher with the organization. This is his 22nd year as a major league manager. 'Having the chance to work alongside Bob every day, we're really fortunate to have such an experienced leader and one of the most well-respected managers in baseball,' Giants President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey said in a statement. 'His leadership, preparation, and connection with our players have been invaluable, and we believe he's the right person to continue guiding this team forward.' Melvin, a three-time Manager of the Year who has won the award in both leagues, has a career regular-season record of 1,642-1,547 with eight postseason appearances while guiding Arizona, Seattle, Oakland, San Diego and now the Giants. The club went 80-82 in his first season last year. 'I'm grateful for the opportunity to continue leading this group,' Melvin said. 'I believe in what we're building here, and I appreciate the confidence that the Giants ownership group, Greg, Buster, Larry (Baer), Zack (Minasian) and the rest of the Giants' organization have shown in me and our staff. We have a lot of unfinished business this year, and I'm looking forward to the work ahead.' Melvin is a native of nearby Palo Alto, California. He attended the University of California-Berkeley and played for his hometown Giants from 1986-88. He replaced Gabe Kapler, who was fired with three days remaining in the 2023 season. The Giants haven't made the playoffs nor had a winning record since finishing with a franchise-record 107 victories to edge the 106-win Dodgers for the NL West title in 2021. In other Giants news, the team placed infielder Christian Koss on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain and recalled outfielder Luis Matos from Triple-A Sacramento. ___ AP MLB: recommended

XTEND Reality Inc. Debuts New U.S. Headquarters and Drone Production Facility in Tampa, Driving Innovation and National Security
New facility strengthens America's domestic drone production capacity while bringing high-tech jobs and investment to Florida TAMPA, Fla., July 1, 2025 /CNW/ -- XTEND Reality Inc. (XTEND), a global leader in human-guided autonomous drone systems, officially debuted its new U.S. headquarters and production facility today in Tampa, Florida. The ribbon-cutting event brought together federal, state and local leaders, as well as military personnel, to celebrate a major milestone in advancing American drone capabilities and bolstering regional economic development. The new facility will manufacture and integrate XTEND's advanced drone systems to support critical U.S. defense missions. The opening comes as federal leaders intensify their push for domestically produced drone technologies that reduce foreign reliance and strengthen national security. "We are not just building drones, we are building capabilities, resilience and trust," said XTEND Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder Aviv Shapira. "This facility marks a new chapter for XTEND in the United States and reflects our commitment to delivering the most advanced, mission-ready systems to our customers. We're proud to establish our U.S. headquarters in Tampa and grateful for the strong support from local, state and federal partners as we continue to scale our operations." XTEND was founded in 2018 by brothers Aviv and Matteo Shapira in partnership with Rubi Liani. Prior to establishing XTEND, the Shapira brothers co-founded Replay Technologies, which was acquired by Intel in 2016 for $175 million. "Our systems are designed to give operators unprecedented control, safety and performance in the most demanding environments," said XTEND CTO and Co-Founder Rubi Liani. "This new facility enables us to bring advanced engineering and innovation directly to the U.S. market, allowing for rapid integration, customization and deployment. It's a critical step in our mission to redefine human-machine collaboration in defense and national security." "Establishing a U.S. headquarters and production facility is more than just a business expansion, it's a commitment to building enduring partnerships that strengthen America's defense innovation ecosystem," said XTEND Vice President and U.S. General Manager Roy Levy. "This facility is not just about delivering cutting-edge systems, it's about ensuring speed, reliability and integration at the pace of mission demand. XTEND is here to deliver solutions that work when it matters most." "This milestone represents the realization of XTEND's vision to bring our groundbreaking technologies closer to the U.S. defense ecosystem," said Dr. Peter Kash, XTEND Chairman of the Board. "With this facility, we're laying the foundation for sustained growth, high-tech job creation and meaningful contributions to America's security and industrial capabilities. I'm incredibly proud of the team that made this moment possible, amplifying the connectivity of Florida and the future of AI and Robotics." XTEND's U.S. facility represents a major step in expanding U.S.-based production capacity and supporting the growing demand for advanced drone systems across the defense and public safety sectors. While focused on delivering Group 1 drones under contract for the U.S. Department of Defense, manufacturing will eventually expand to other critical drone components such as communication modules, motors and controllers to serve the country's broader drone industry. The site is expected to generate dozens of new jobs over the coming years and further Florida's role as a hub for aerospace and defense systems manufacturing. 'This Is Just A Necessary Spend': Back-To-School Spending Holds Steady Despite Economic Uncertainties
Summer may be just getting underway, but plenty of parents are already planning their spending for the upcoming school year. Nearly 75% of parents plan to spend the same or more on back-to-school shopping this year, a consumer survey from PwC found. And more than one in three parents actually plan to spend more this year than they have previously. Economic uncertainties and the effects of the tariffs had many experts uncertain as to whether or not back-to-school shopping would drop sharply this fall. But PwC's findings seem to indicate that inflationary fatigue won't curb demand after all. Don't Miss: Maximize saving for your retirement and cut down on taxes: Named a TIME Best Invention and Backed by 5,000+ Users, Kara's Air-to-Water Pod Cuts Plastic and Costs — "A lot of it is necessities. It's people knowing that they're going to have to get this specific book, or these specific supplies for school or they require technology for their kids," PwC Global Retail Leader Kelly Pedersen told CNBC. "This is just a necessary spend." However, anxiety about the impacts of tariffs hasn't entirely dissipated. "A lot of the average consumers in the U.S. sort of feel this cloud hanging above of, when are the tariffs going to hit, and what are those going to do to prices," Pedersen said. Several popular back-to-school retailers, like Walmart (NYSE:WMT) and Target (NYSE:TGT), have said they plan to raise prices as a result of the tariffs. "We will do our best to keep our prices as low as possible. But given the magnitude of the tariffs, even at the reduced levels announced this week, we aren't able to absorb all the pressure given the reality of narrow retail margins, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said on an earnings call in May. PwC also cautions that the mid-May tariff rollback, which fueled a rush of exports from China, may cause uneven inventory availability. However, it remains optimistic that retailers will have remedied these supply chain concerns by the time back-to-school shopping is in full swing. For parents looking to save money this fall, prioritizing discounts and shopping early are the two most common methods for cutting costs. Reusing items and cutting back in specific categories like technology and clothing are also popular strategies. The study also found that one in five parents plan to use AI tools to help them discover the best deals on back-to-school items. "This helps create a growing imperative for retailers to enhance their digital channels and search visibility for AI-powered discovery," the report said.
