WBCAP 2025 registration open for UG admissions across West Bengal
WBCAP 2025:
The registration window for WBCAP 2025 has officially opened for undergraduate (UG) admissions in West Bengal. Eligible students seeking admission to UG programmes across government and private colleges in the state can now apply online by visiting the official website — wbcap.in.
The West Bengal Department of Higher Education launched the Centralised Admission Portal (WBCAP) recently, enabling prospective applicants to submit their forms without any application fee. The online registration process is active and will remain open until 1 July. Candidates are advised to complete the application process well before the deadline to avoid last-minute delays.
Application open for over 460 colleges
The WBCAP 2025 process covers admissions to UG programmes in 460 state-run and private colleges affiliated with 17 public universities across West Bengal.
Candidates may apply for a maximum of 25 different programmes or courses offered by one or more institutions through a single application.
The portal allows applicants to choose preferred colleges and courses using a search feature, where they can explore available options and set their choices accordingly. However, several institutions and programmes are excluded from the WBCAP system. These include Presidency University, Jadavpur University, engineering, pharmacy, medical, and nursing colleges, autonomous institutions, law universities, training colleges, private/self-financing colleges, minority institutions, and colleges offering fine arts, performing arts, dance, crafts, and music.

Chandigarh, Punjab, Delhi among top performers in school education during 2023-24: MoE report
Chandigarh, Punjab, Delhi, Gujarat and Odisha are among top performers in the 2023-24 Performing Grade Index that assesses school education at the district level, according to a report of the Ministry of Education . Other top performing states and Union territories include Kerala, Daman and Diu, Haryana, Goa, Maharashtra and Rajasthan, the report said. Performance Grading Index for Districts (PGI-D) measures the performance of states and UTs in school education. Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL) has so far released PGI report for states and UTs for the years 2017-18 to 2021-22. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 'Swing is King': Mr. Hemant's Strategy Finally Explained in Free Session TradeWise Learn More Undo Meghalya has been adjudged as the lowest performing state in the latest report. Puducherry, Himachala Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and West Bengal are among the average performers as per the index. Live Events "The PGI has been conceptualized as a tool to catalyse transformational change in the field of school education with an objective of assessment of the relative performance of all the districts in a uniform scale," a senior ministry official said. The PGI-D structure comprises total weightage of 600 points across 74 indicators, which are grouped under six categories -- Outcomes, Effective Classroom Transaction, Infrastructure Facilities and Student Entitlements, School Safety and Child Protection , Digital Learning and Governance Process. These categories are further divided into 11 domains -- Learning Outcomes and Quality, Access Outcomes, Teacher Availability and Professional Development Outcomes, Learning Management, Learning Enrichment Activities, Infrastructure Facilities, Student Entitlements, School Safety and Child Protection, Digital Learning, Funds Convergence and Utilisation, Attendance Monitoring Systems and School Leadership Development. Following the same approach of state PGI, districts are graded. In PGI-D, the nomenclature for PGI scores is classified into various grades. Highest achievable grade in PGI-D is 'Utkarsh', which is for districts scoring more than 90 per cent of the total points in that category or overall. The category and overall scores are then reduced by an equal width of 10 per cent of total points in that category or overall points for arriving to the next grade.

Thiruvananthapuram airport removes 141 obstacles to improve air safety
1 2 3 T'puram: In a bid to improve air safety, Thiruvananthapuram airport has issued notices to around 600 people, asking them to remove obstacles, including trees, hoardings and lightning conductor antennas that are on the flight path. So far, 141 obstacles have been removed. These obstacles were removed from Vallakadavu, All Saints Junction, Balanagar, Chakai-Shangumukham road corridor, Chitranjali Hills, Judge Kunnu, Air Force station and Aiswarya Nagar. Many of these areas are located within the approach funnel and zones where aircraft manoeuvre to land or take off, making them critical to air safety. The airport also removed approximately 14 obstacles from its close vicinity. They include an IAF antenna, a hoarding of an apartment complex in Anayara, a lightning arrester of a hospital, the second floor of a lodge at Shanghumugham, a camera pole at All Saints Junction, a stair roof of a house in Sulaiman Street, a lightning arrester of a luxury hotel near Kochuveli, a watchtower at Chitranjali Hills, a giant wheel at Shanghumugham and parapets and poles of a house in GV Raja Lane. An airport official said most of the crucial obstacles were removed and notices are issued to the owners through Directorate General of Civil Aviation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like One of the Most Successful Investors of All Time, Warren Buffett, Recommends: 5 Books for Turning... A recent assessment by the airport found that there are around 1,000 obstacles or groups of obstacles all around the 20 km radius of the airport designated as the obstacles limitation surface. Though the airport issues no objection certificates (NOC) for construction around the airport, people often violate them by installing water tanks, antennas, solar panels, temporary stairs and canopies over the buildings that infringe on the permissible height in the area, said an official. The awareness about the need for an NOC has increased, but it is issued from Chennai air traffic control, which is a hassle. The electronic terrain and obstacles data (e-TOD) of Airports Authority of India, aimed to inform pilots and air traffic controllers about the terrain and the obstacles, does not seem to be updated, as the airport's assessment shows there are far more obstacles. One of the reasons could be non-compliance by people who obtain NOCs. The airport operator is in touch with the local body to ensure that there will not be obstacles.
