Youm-e-Tashakur marked across Sindh
The nation celebrated the victory over India, on Friday, by taking to the streets and organising events under the banner of Youm-e-Tashakur across various parts of Sindh.
Government departments, educational institutions, political, religious parties, and civilians, organized events to mark the day.
The district administration and Hyderabad Municipal Corporation arranged a ceremony at the Circuit House, with speakers paying tribute to the soldiers and martyrs whose bravery made Pakistan triumph over India. Government officers, citizens, and a large number of school students participated in the ceremony.
On the occasion, MNA Tariq Ali Shah Jamote strongly condemned the Pahalgam incident, saying that Pakistan had consistently offered cooperation for an impartial international investigation; further stating that India's wishful thinking of being militarily superior to Pakistan shattered.
Meanwhile, Mayor Kashif Ali Shoro appreciated Pakistan's diplomatic efforts and recalled how Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari represented the country when he was the foreign minister.
The Divisional Commissioner Hyderabad, Bilal Ahmed Memon, credited the armed forces for their exemplary defense, while DIG Hyderabad Tariq Razaq Dharejo noted that not only did Pakistan overpower India, but the elements spreading despondency in the country were also silenced.
Meanwhile, educational institutions including Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), Sindh University (SU) and Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) among others, organised rallies to celebrate the day, while the central event in Sukkur district took place at Lab-e-Mehran walking track where one of the largest national flags was hoisted.
Commissioner Sukkur, Fayaz Hussain Abbassi, stated that Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos gave a deafening response to India's Operation Sindoor. He also expressed that the country pays tribute to the martyred and injured civilians, including Mukhtiar Ahmed and Fayaz, who were hit when a drone fell on an agricultural field in Sukkur.
Further, DIG Sukkur Faizullah Chachar asserted that Pakistani soldiers are always prepared to fight in any situation, even if it is sweltering heat at 50 degrees Celsius or a freezing 40 degrees Celsius chill.
A rally was also taken out from the commissioner's office in Larkana, in which the participants carried banners and listened to the national anthem, while a flag hoisting event was organised in Nawabshah at the commissioner's office. Similar official events were held in all districts of Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Nawabshah, Sukkur and Larkana.

'Bandits' kill 13 in Nigeria despite recent peace deals
Gunmen in Nigeria's northwest Katsina state killed 13 people at a mosque Tuesday, according to a report produced for the UN and seen by AFP, despite recent peace deals meant to stem such attacks. Gangs locally known as "bandits" have for years preyed on rural communities in northwest and central Nigeria, raiding villages, kidnapping residents for ransom and burning homes after looting them. With security forces unable to defeat them militarily, authorities at the state, local and federal levels have at times opted for peace deals, including in Katsina state. However, the local government of Malumfashi where the killings took place, had not signed any truce agreement. The report said that early on Tuesday, "armed bandits" attacked a mosque in the town of Unguwan Mantau, in what was potentially a "retaliatory attack after Nigerian army troops repelled an attempted bandit attack" nearby. Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, spokesman for the Katsina State police, told AFP that the attack left 15 people dead. Even in communities that do strike peace deals, the reprieve can be short lived if the gunmen or authorities fail to uphold the bargain. Bandits — who often retain the majority of their weapons — have also been known to exploit truces to establish safe havens in areas covered by such agreements, while continuing to launch attacks elsewhere. Security in Kaduna state's Birnin Gwari district improved after a truce in November but neighbouring Katsina and Niger states have seen a rise in bandit attacks. After a truce last month with notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, some disgruntled residents told AFP the agreement had left Turji's gang intact. Tuesday's report noted that banditry "continues to rise" in Katsina state and that "bandit groups are likely to continue exploiting security gaps in the short-term". The ongoing banditry crisis originated in conflicts over land and water rights between herders and farmers but has morphed into organised crime.

UN slams Israel's curbs on Gaza aid

PHOTO: REUTERS The United Nations took aim Tuesday at Israel's months-long block on bringing tents into the Gaza Strip, despite continual displacement orders being issued to civilians in the devastated territory. Jens Laerke, spokesman for the UN humanitarian agency OCHA, said shelter items had been banned from entering Gaza for about five months — a period in which more than 700,000 people had been displaced or re-displaced. "They may have been provided with a tent, and then they are displaced again and they have no possibility of taking the tent with them," he told a press briefing in Geneva. He said Israel had classified tents as "dual use" because they considered tent poles could potentially be used for a military purpose. He decried "layers of bureaucracy which seem designed not to facilitate fast entry of anything but rather the opposite". Israel announced earlier this month that it intended to take over Gaza City and issued another displacement order to residents on Saturday. Laerke said tents were still not being allowed into the territory. The UN human rights office meanwhile said the Gaza City takeover plans bore "huge risks for civilians". "There are risks of mass displacement and more and more killings and more misery," said spokesman Thameen Al-Kheetan. He accused Israel of displacing Palestinians to areas where strikes were continuing. Kheetan said "hundreds of thousands" were being told to go south to Al-Mawasi, which he said was still under bombardment. He said Palestinians in Al-Mawasi had "little or no access to essential services and supplies, including food, water, electricity and tents". Across the Gaza Strip, Kheetan said the risk of starvation was "everywhere".

Kabul hosts Pakistan, China FMs for dialogue
Foreign ministers from Afghanistan, China and Pakistan will meet in Kabul on Wednesday as part of a trilateral mechanism aimed at discussing issues related to strengthening political, economic and regional cooperation among the three countries. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is currently on a visit to New Delhi, will travel to Kabul for the first formal trilateral meeting in two years. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will represent Pakistan at the meeting to be hosted by Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. This will be the first visit by the Chinese foreign minister to Afghanistan since the Taliban regained power four years ago while the third by Dar to the Afghan capital since April. At an informal trilateral meeting, held in Beijing in May, Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to upgrade their diplomatic relationship at the ambassadors' level. The deal was brokered by China, which wanted to seek rapprochement between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Among other issues, the security situation, particularly the presence of terrorist outfits inside Afghanistan, would be one of the major topics of discussions. Pakistan has remained concerned that the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other groups are still operating from Afghan soil. China, too, is worried but wants to remain engaged with Kabul to address those issues. According to Afghanistan's Deputy Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, the conference will include detailed discussions on various aspects such as strengthening political ties, creating new opportunities for economic cooperation, and taking joint measures on regional security. It is expected that the conference will propose practical steps that will not only make trilateral cooperation more effective but also contribute towards overall development and stability of the region. Sources say that during his visit to Kabul, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will also hold separate meetings with several senior leaders of the Taliban government. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will hold talks with Afghan officials on various aspects of bilateral cooperation and present Pakistan's policy for strengthening trilateral engagement. For Afghanistan, this conference is being seen as a major diplomatic success, as it provides the country an opportunity to remain engaged with key regional players. Meanwhile, the Foreign Office on Tuesday confirmed that on the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Foreign Minister Wang Yi is visiting Islamabad for co-chairing the 6th Pakistan-China Foreign Ministers' Strategic Dialogue on August 21. "The visit is part of the regular high-level exchanges between Pakistan and China to further deepen their "All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership", reaffirm support on the issues of respective core interests, enhance economic and trade cooperation, and reaffirm their joint commitment to regional peace, development and stability, read the statement. His visit comes ahead of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's trip to China later this month. The prime minister will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit and hold bilateral meetings with Chinese leadership including President Xi Jingping. This will be Shehbaz's first visit to China since the Pakistan-India four-day war. During the visit of the Chinese foreign minister, both sides will finalise the agenda of the prime minister's upcoming trip to China.
