Barcelona make Lamine Yamal decision to try and allay fears of 'bad influence' on teen star

Daily Mirror17-07-2025
Lamine Yamal held a lavish party to celebrate his 18th birthday on Sunday and the Barcelona wonderkid has suffered backlash over allegedly hiring people with dwarfism to peform
Barcelona have handed Lamine Yamal the No.10 shirt in the hope that the now 18-year-old will embrace the responsibility. Spanish wonderkid Yamal will follow in the footsteps of Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo and Diego Maradona by wearing the iconic number which was recently vacated by Ansu Fati, who's joined Monaco on loan with an option to buy.

Yamal's shirt change comes after he signed a lucrative six-year contract which keeps him at the soon-to-be renovated Camp Nou until 2031. But the winger has recently become embroiled in controversy.

Spain's Ministry of Social Rights has asked the country's prosecutor's office to investigate Yamal after he allegedly hired people with dwarfism to perform at his 18th birthday party. The lavish celebrations took place on Sunday at a rented property in Olivella, a small town 50 kilometres north west of Barcelona.

It's claimed that Yamal hired a group of entertainers with dwarfism, something which the Association of People with Achondroplasia and other Skeletal Dysplasias in Spain (ADEE) describe as 'unacceptable in the 21st century'. An Instagram model also said that 12 women of a 'certain breast size' were paid to attend while other guests included YouTubers, influencers and several of his Barca team-mates.
On Wednesday, Yamal was presented with the No.10 shirt by club president Joan Laporta and the Spain international commented: "I'm a bit indifferent to both criticism and praise if it doesn't come from my family or friends. Right now, I'm very focused on football.
"Ultimately, I work for Barca and I play for Barca, but when I'm away from Ciudad Deportiva (the club's training ground), I enjoy my life, and that's it."

Yamal, who returned for pre-season training earlier this week, added: "When I was a child, my dream was to debut for Barca, to grow up and play with the No 10. Every kid born in Barcelona dreams of that. Messi has made his way, and I'm going to make mine."
Regarding the allegations, Directorate General for People with Disabilities in Spain told BBC Sport: "ADEE has filed a legal complaint. Therefore, this Directorate General has asked the Prosecutor's Office to investigate to determine whether the law and, therefore, the rights of people with disabilities have been violated."

In a statement, the ADEE said: "These actions violate not only current legislation but also the fundamental ethical values of a society that seeks to be egalitarian and respectful.
"The general law on the rights of persons with disabilities expressly prohibits the following practices: 'Shows or recreational activities in which people with disabilities or other circumstances are used to provoke mockery, ridicule, or derision from the public in a manner contrary to the respect due to human dignity are prohibited'."

In an interview with Spanish radio station RAC1, however, one of those performers jumped to Yamal's defence. "No one disrespected us, we worked in peace," the artist, who asked to remain anonymous, explained.
"I don't understand why there's so much hype. We're normal people, who do what we want, in an absolutely legal way. We work as entertainers. Why can't we do it? Because of our physical condition? We know what our limit is and we will never exceed it: we are not fairground monkeys."

Barcelona say that they are 'not in a position to comment on an act that falls strictly within the private sphere'. The La Liga champions added that they'd reassess their position once they have 'concrete information'.
Barca begin their title defence away to Mallorca on Saturday, August 16. It's the first of three consecutive away fixtures before they plan to return to the Camp Nou permanently after two seasons away.

Ibiza Boss Jack Kay could earn six-figure salary this year with smart moves

Jack Kay, also known as the 'Ibiza Final Boss' went viral after footage of him dancing in Ibiza was shared online - and now he could be set to make a fortune from his newfound fame Jack Kay, nicknamed the Ibiza Final Boss, could make a hefty six-figure sum this year - provided he plays his cards right. ‌ The 26 year old from Newcastle became an overnight sensation after clips of him dancing on the Spanish party isle went viral on social media. However, it wasn't just his slick dance moves that caught people's eye - his unique bowl cut truly made him stand out from the crowd. ‌ Thanks to his newfound fame, he could now be set to earn substantial sums through television appearances and sponsorship deals, the Mirror reports. ‌ PR expert Mayah Riaz, of Miyah Media has spoken to the Mirror, stating: "The PR world loves an unexpected viral hero and Ibiza Final Boss, Jack Kay, is delivering in spades. "He's got the holy trinity of viral success: that he's relatable, he popped up at the right time, and he's unintentionally hilarious. The internet seems to love him. And in today's fame economy that kind of organic buzz can absolutely be cashed in on, if he plays it right." ‌ Since the clip of him went viral, Jack hasn't just gained attention he's amassed a valuable following of 27,000 followers on Instagram - and climbing. He has also gotten an agent, which will help him with serious earning potential. Mayah says: "We're already seeing brands jumping on his train by using his image, offering him guest list invites, and even offering him holidays." "If his following keeps growing and stays engaged, there's a very real chance of him pulling in £1-2k per post, especially if he leans into party brands, travel, fashion, or those lad-culture meme pages. And he's already back in Ibiza after just one day in the UK. That's likely down to club appearances as Ibiza venues love a viral name on the flyer. These bookings can easily land him £1k-£5k per night, depending on demand." ‌ She continues: "He has already announced he's going on tour. So he is aware he needs to cash in on this very quickly. Depending on the format of his tour, it could see him making £40k-£60k from it, as he has seen there must be a demand for it." "Already, some quick-thinkers have begun selling wigs of his infamous haircut. "If he created his own official merchandise, - if he moves fast with it - it could make around £50k on wig sales and around £75k from additional merchandise such as t-shirts, hoodies and mugs," says Mayah. Fans of the viral clip will be thrilled to hear Jack is likely to appear on daytime TV interviews and panel shows, earning £500–£2k a pop, in the coming days, and potentially even reality shows like Big Brother or The Traitors, which could effortlessly net him £10k–£50k for a brief appearance. ‌ Mayah explained the world of PR is fuelled by freebies and "influencer swaps", including designer clothing, luxury hotel stays and sponsored trips, which could be worth over £10k. With the world at his fingertips, Jack could potentially rake in a high six-figure income this year, provided he capitalises on his fame swiftly. ‌ "Jack's rise is meme-led, and reason that it is working is because people aren't laughing at him, they're laughing with him," says Mayah. "He's got the everyman charm nailed: a regular lad from Newcastle, enjoying his moment. That kind of relatability is gold dust in PR. If I could offer Jack one piece of advice, it's to remember that viral fame burns hot and fast. If he wants to turn this 15-second clip into a six-figure year (and he absolutely can), he needs to start thinking long-term. Build the personal brand, get a solid PR strategy behind him and bring in a manager who can say 'no' to the right things.' Meanwhile, 23 year old Alisha Cook, a debt collector from Durham, has stepped forward claiming to be Jack's girlfriend. In a series of TikToks captioned: "POV: ya boyfriend's now known as Ibiza Final Boss," Alisha is seen getting cosy with Jack, featuring clips of him kissing her cheek and the pair partying together. The video has since been set to private, but fans had plenty to say in the comments, with one person quipping: "At least you know he didn't cheat - he's been filmed from every angle on TikTok just having a ball."
