Ministry of Petroleum Announces Three New Oil and Gas Discoveries in Western Desert & Gulf of Suez

Yara Sameh
As part of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources' efforts to boost production and encourage operating companies to expand exploration drilling, reflecting the promising potential of Egypt's energy sector, companies Khalda, Petrobel, and GUPCO have made three new oil and gas discoveries in their concession areas in the Western Desert and the Gulf of Suez.
On May 11, Khalda Company successfully made a discovery at South NUT-1 in the Western Desert. Electrical logging confirmed gas indications in the Shifa sandstone layer within the Paleozoic formation, with a net thickness of 253 feet. The expected reserves prior to drilling were estimated at around 12.5 million barrels of oil equivalent (62.7 billion cubic feet of gas and 1.15 million barrels of condensates). Pressure measurements are underway, and the well will soon be tested and evaluated.
Additionally, a development plan is nearing completion, including the construction of a 10-inch, 23-kilometer production pipeline at an investment of approximately USD 10 million. The plan also involves drilling several exploratory wells to boost the company's natural gas output. The well is expected to produce 30 million cubic feet of gas per day.
Petrobel made a new discovery on May 8 by testing and evaluating the appraisal well West Feiran-2 in the Gulf of Suez. Perforating 27 meters in the Asl sandstone resulted in a production rate of 2,660 barrels of oil per day, and the added reserves from the well are currently being assessed.
GUPCO also made a discovery on May 1 through testing and evaluating the exploratory well GS327-A15, perforating 38 feet in the Kareem sandstone, with a production of 720 barrels of oil per day. The added reserves from the well are also under evaluation.

Egypt's Population Reaches 108 Million: CAPMAS

Taarek Refaat Egypt's domestic population has officially surpassed 108 million, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS). The figure, announced Saturday, reflects an increase of one million people since November 2, 2024, when the population stood at 107 million. CAPMAS noted that the new million was added in 287 days, or nine months and 17 days, compared to 268 days for the previous million and 250 days for the million before that, indicating a gradual slowdown in the pace of population growth. The agency attributed the trend to a decline in daily birth averages. During the most recent period, Egypt recorded about 5,165 births per day, down from 5,385 in the preceding million increase, and 5,599 in the million before that. Between November 2024 and mid-August 2025, Egypt registered 1.482 million births, the equivalent of 215 births per hour, or 3.6 births per minute, meaning one new child is born every 16.7 seconds. The announcement comes amid government efforts to address population growth, which officials have long described as a central challenge to Egypt's development goals. Earlier this month, CAPMAS also reported that the country's unemployment rate dropped to 6.1% in the second quarter of 2025, suggesting a gradual improvement in labor market dynamics despite persistent demographic pressures. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News The Jessica Radcliffe Orca Attack? 100% Fake and AI-Generated

Egypt Records Highest-Ever Primary Surplus of EGP 629 Billion in FY2024/25

Taarek Refaat Egypt has achieved its largest-ever primary budget surplus, recording EGP 629 billion ($13.1 billion) in the fiscal year 2024/25, equivalent to 3.6% of GDP, according to a statement released Saturday by the Egyptian Presidency. The figure marks an 80% jump compared to the EGP 350 billion surplus registered in 2023/24. Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk presented the results during a meeting with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, stressing that the surplus was secured despite significant external shocks. Among the challenges, the government highlighted a sharp 60% drop in Suez Canal revenues compared to budget forecasts, resulting in a shortfall of around EGP 145 billion. Nevertheless, Kouchouk said the strong fiscal outcome was accompanied by robust improvements in Egypt's broader economic indicators, including a surge in private investment, manufacturing, and export activity. The statement also revealed that Egypt achieved its highest growth in tax revenues in years, climbing 35% to reach nearly EGP 2.2 trillion in FY2024/25. Officials credited the increase to expanded tax facilities, a broadened tax base, and strengthened trust and cooperation with the business community. Overall revenues grew 29% year-on-year, while primary expenditures rose 16.3%, underscoring what the government described as a more efficient fiscal management strategy aimed at consolidating the state budget. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News The Jessica Radcliffe Orca Attack? 100% Fake and AI-Generated

Egyptian Exchange Launches Mobile App "EGX" to Boost Market Engagement

Taarek Refaat The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) announced the official launch of its first-ever mobile application, 'EGX', set to go live on Sunday, August 17. The move marks a strategic milestone in the bourse's efforts to strengthen communication channels and enhance transparency within Egypt's capital market. According to an official statement, the new app aims to provide investors, traders, and market stakeholders with easy access to real-time data, market summaries, and financial news, creating a more interactive and user-friendly experience. The application's pilot version will allow users to test its features and share feedback through the 'EGX Dialogue Platform', a tool designed to incorporate investor suggestions into the platform's development. 'This initiative reflects the Exchange's strong commitment to open dialogue and community engagement, ensuring that the tools and services provided truly address the needs of market participants,' the statement read. Key features of the app include live market updates, listed securities data, daily indices summaries, and highlights of major market movements, all tailored to improve accessibility and decision-making for investors. The launch forms part of the EGX Board's broader development strategy, specifically Target No. 60, which focuses on upgrading digital systems and applications to align with international best practices. By doing so, the Exchange seeks to boost efficiency, expand the investor base, and position itself as a modern, transparent, and technologically advanced marketplace. The rollout comes on a day when the main EGX30 index slipped by 0.41%, while the EGX70 EWI dipped 0.25%, reflecting mixed investor sentiment amid regional and global market volatility. Market observers say the introduction of EGX's mobile app could mark the beginning of a digital transformation wave in Egypt's financial sector, providing investors with a tool long demanded in a rapidly evolving market environment. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News The Jessica Radcliffe Orca Attack? 100% Fake and AI-Generated
