MUSCAT: HM Cup champions Al Shabab will eye to lift their maiden Super Cup title as they will take on Seeb, defending champions of Omantel league, on Saturday night. The match will take place at Al Saada Sports Complex in Salalah under the auspices of Dr Mahad bin Said Baowain, Minister of Labour, in presence of Sayyid Sulaiman bin Hamoud al Busaidy, Chairman of Oman Football Association (OFA) and top dignitaries. The match will kick off at 7:30 pm, to commence officially the new domestic footballing season 2025/2026. This is the second time that Salalah has hosted the Super Cup following successful organisation of Super Cup in 2022 edition in which Seeb defeated Al Nahdha 2-0 at the same venue.
Ahead of their arrival, the two sides geared up for the season-opening clash through series of warm up sessions in their internal camps. Al Shabab, under technical guidance of Omani experienced coach Hassan Rustam, has bolstered their ammunition ahead of the new season.

The Champions of HM Cup added many new faces including: Jameel al Yahmadi, returning to his team after some successful seasons in Qatar, alongside Juma al Habsi and Salah al Dohani. Key renewals for Al Shabab including: Hatim al Roushdi, Sami al Ajmi, Musab al Mamari, Yaqdhan al Shanfari, Islam al Hinai, Rashid al Hosni, AbdulMalik al Badri, Mohammed al Ghafri, Yousef al Malki, Mahmood al Khusaibi, Ahed al Hudaifi, Mahmood Mabrook, Majid al Saadi, Badar al Alawi and Yassin al Shyiadi.
On the other hand, Seeb Club will look to add another achievement following their last title in 2022. Seeb board directors decided to appoint the Romanian coach Valeriu Tița to lead the coaching staff of the team. The newly Romanian coach will depend on many key players in today's night clash including: Marwan al Siyabi who returned after a season with Al Nasr, Abdullah Fawaz, Oman national team midfielder who signed for one year, Musab al Shaqsi, striker from Bahla Club. The Super Cup match will be followed by an upcoming Four-Team Tournament in Salalah too during July 27 to August 3. The high-profile pre-season event will feature Seeb, Al Shabab, Al Nahdha (Omantel League runners-up) and Salalah-based giants Dhofar and Al Nasr.

At the same time, the hockey field at Sohar Sports Complex will witness a strong encounter between Masirah and Seeb. Meanwhile, the third match will take place at the Sultan Qaboos Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah, where Al Ittihad will face Salalah in a game expected to be filled with competitiveness and excitement. AL NAHDA AND AL SALAM SHARE POINTS The fourth round of the league produced several notable results, most notably the 1-1 draw between Al Nahda and Al Salam at the Sohar Sports Complex hockey field. The match was fiercely contested from the first quarter, especially since the two teams had previously drawn in their third-round encounter, adding a competitive edge to the match. Al Nahda nearly opened the scoring with a well-organised attack led by Yassin al Alawi, but Al Salam's defence intervened just in time. Mohamed al Raisi responded for Al Salam with a dangerous attempt that was blocked by Al Nahda's defence, and the first quarter ended in a goalless draw. In the second quarter, both teams continued to share control of the match, but a lack of precision in the final touch prevented any goals, keeping the score 0-0 at halftime. The breakthrough came in the third quarter when Mansour al Raisi scored the opening goal for Al Nahda from a swift counterattack, exploiting a gap in the defence. SEEB CRUSH SAHAM 7-0 In another match of the same round, Seeb achieved a dominant 7-0 victory over Saham at the Seeb Club hockey field. Seeb controlled the game from the outset, with Fahad bin Khamis al Balushi opening the scoring in the sixth minute, followed just two minutes later by a second goal from Mohammed bin Abdullah al Shibli, capitalising on a quick counterattack. Saham tried to reduce the deficit through Majid al Maamari, but Seeb's defence remained alert, and the first quarter ended 2-0. In the second quarter, Saham continued their attacking attempts but failed to create real danger. Seeb responded through Al Waleed al Raisi, who scored the third goal from a penalty corner. With Saham's performance declining, Seeb took advantage and added a fourth goal through Hassan Darwish al Balushi in the 24th minute, ending the quarter 4-0. Seeb's dominance continued in the third quarter as they earned another penalty corner, which Mohamed Saeed al Shibli converted into the fifth goal. Seeb maintained their pressure and earned yet another penalty corner, from which Al Waleed al Raisi scored his second personal goal and the team's sixth in the 36th minute, ending the third quarter with a 6-0 lead. In the final quarter, Al Yazan al Batashi capped off Seeb's strong performance with a seventh goal, sealing a sweeping 7-0 victory.

This marks Oman's first-ever medal in this regional tournament at the national team level and comes with a notable jump in the world rankings from 76th to 70th. The Omani team started strong in the first set, asserting control early on with a solid block from Saud al Maamari, followed by powerful attacks from Mahmoud al Saadi, giving Oman a 4-1 lead. With solid defensive organisation and standout mid-court strikes from Ismail al Haidi, Oman closed the set 25-19. In the second set, Saudi Arabia capitalised on Oman's offensive errors and lack of focus to bounce back and take the set 25-20. However, Oman regrouped in the third set, with Youssef al Shukaili excelling at the net and Al Haidi continuing his offensive dominance, leading to a 25-18 win. The fourth set was closely contested with continuous point exchanges, but Oman's experience shone in the final moments. "This award isn't mine alone, it belongs to everyone who supported me and stood behind the team. We played as one family, and our fighting spirit was the key to our success," he said. The tournament's awards highlighted standout performances across all positions, with Qatari star Renan Ribeiro being named the Best Player of the Championship. The award for Best Setter went to Bahrain's Mahmoud Al Afia. The Best "Spiker 4" honour was shared between Bahrain's Mohammad Yaqoob and Qatar's Nikola, both of whom impressed with their powerful attacking contributions. He noted the challenges Oman faces due to the disparity in professional resources, explaining, Our players participate as amateurs, while others rely on full-time professionals. We hope for partial player releases to aid future growth. Al Maqbali also praised Omani media coverage, stating it provided a significant morale boost for the players throughout the championship. MUSCAT: Oman's national volleyball team saw their dream of reaching the final of the West Asian Men's Championship come to an end after suffering a straight-sets defeat to Qatar in the semifinals. The encounter was marked by clear dominance from the Qatari side, who capitalised on Oman's errors especially in serving and blocking to claim victory with set scores of 25-18, 25-19, and 25-20. STRONG START BY QATAR, SCATTERED OMANI RESISTANCE Qatar began the match with high intensity, setting the tempo both offensively and defensively. With a well-organised block and effective backline coverage, they quickly exposed Oman's weaknesses, particularly in serve reception and missed serves. Despite individual efforts from Ismail al Haidy, Mahmood al Saadi, and Younis al Amri, the first set went to Qatar 25-18. In the second set, Oman showed clearer intent to recover and improve. The introduction of Adam al Juradi injected some energy into the team, helping Oman level the score at 11-11. However, Qatar regained control through cohesive play and effective counterattacks, eventually taking the set 25-19. The third set began on a relatively even footing, with the score tied at 2-2 before Mohammed al Muqbali put Oman ahead briefly. STATS HIGHLIGHT THE GAP Match statistics underscored the disparity between the two sides. Qatar scored a total of 75 points to Oman's 57, committing only 15 errors compared to Oman's 25. Qatar registered two direct service aces, while Oman failed to record any, and committed 10 service errors compared to Qatar's six. In blocking, Qatar recorded 11 points to Oman's six. Individually, Qatar's Youssef Jalaf stood out with 14 points (12 from spikes and two from blocks), while Oman's top scorer, Ismail al Haidy, managed only 11 points and committed five errors. BAHRAIN BOOK FINAL SPOT In the other semifinal, Bahrain secured their place in the final with a 3-1 victory over Saudi Arabia. Despite losing the first set 28-26, Bahrain rallied to win the next three sets 25-16, 25-22, and 25-22. They will now face Qatar in the final. Iranian coach Reza Hossein Vakeeli expressed disappointment with the outcome, stating that the team failed to deliver the expected performance and that both individual and tactical errors cost them a place in the final. Qatar played very well and deserved to win, said Vakeeli. But we made many mistakes, especially in serving and reception.
