Former Mamelodi Sundowns star missing for over a month
Mngomeni's sister, Pat Maki, expressed the family's rising distress, revealing that not even those who typically know his whereabouts have a clue about his current location.
'I'm Thando's older sister, and as a family, we are deeply concerned because no one knows where he is, we're all looking for him. Even those close to him, who would usually know his whereabouts, have no idea where he is,' she said, as quoted by Soccer Laduma .
According to Maki, her last interaction with Thando took place on 16 June, a public holiday when they spent time together. She last saw him at their home in Gugulethu around 17 or 18 June, waiting for a friend named Musa to pick him up.
'I last spoke to him on June 16, which was a public holiday, and we were together. I last saw him a day or two later. He was waiting for his friend Musa to come and pick him up.'
But Musa has reportedly told the family he also hasn't seen Thando since that day. He said the two of them left together with Thando's girlfriend, who might be the last person to see him.
The family has struggled to trace any reliable leads, and conflicting accounts surrounding Thando's girlfriend have only intensified their worry. Maki said the girlfriend becomes defensive when asked about Thando's location, refusing to answer their questions.
'A guy we spoke to said he saw Thando and his girlfriend coming out of a B&B, and that Thando told him they were heading to Johannesburg. But when we spoke to the girlfriend, she claims she doesn't know where he is. She gets upset and doesn't want to be questioned about him.'
Efforts by Thando's older brother Thabo to contact her have proven fruitless, as she reportedly denied making any statements about his whereabouts.
The family also received a mysterious voice note claiming Thando is alive and well but does not want to reveal his location. However, they remain sceptical, as they have no idea who recorded it or whether it's trustworthy.
'There's also a voice note going around saying Thando is fine and that we shouldn't worry, but he doesn't want anyone to know where he is. All we're asking is that he at least says something to confirm that he's safe.'
With rumours placing Thando in areas such as Khayelitsha and other unnamed locations, the Mngomeni family continues their desperate search. Clinging to hope and urging anyone with information to come forward.
If you have any leads regarding the former Mamelodi Sundowns star Mngomeni's whereabouts, please contact the family or local authorities immediately. Every detail could bring them one step closer to finding him.

'I believe Kenny 100%': McKenzie defends Kenny Kunene
Patriotic Alliance leader Gayton McKenzie has defended his deputy, Kenny Kunene, amid controversy over alleged ties to a mastermind in DJ Sumbody's murder case. This follows Kunene's presence during the arrest of Katiso 'KT' Molefe, a suspect in DJ Sumbody's murder investigation. Molefe was arrested for his alleged role in the killing of amapiano star Oupa 'DJ Sumbody' Sefoka in November 2022. DJ Sumbody and his bodyguard died in a drive-by shooting on a Woodmead road after their vehicle was shot at. The arrest occurred on Monday, with Kunene present at Molefe's home, raising questions about their relationship and possible associations. Kunene insisted he was only there to assist journalists with a scheduled interview at Molefe's house. He explained that his contact had helped the journalist secure an interview with Molefe and had accompanied them there. Kunene maintains he does not have Molefe's contact details and had never visited the suspect's home before the arrest day. 'Then there was an opportunity to interview Molefe and somebody that I know who knows Molefe, and then I arranged the interview. I then had to transport the journalist to Molefe's home,' he told eNCA. He added he was shocked when the police raided Molefe's home and arrested him. Following this, on Tuesday, McKenzie announced that Kunene has been placed on thirty days of special leave while the matter is investigated internally. In a post on X, McKenzie said his believe that Kunene had no direct link with Molefe, and they are launching a probe. 'Firstly, I believe Kenny 100%. I can't expect everyone to believe him, hence we are launching a full investigation to prove what we already know, which is that he is innocent. We will share the whole process and findings,' he said. He added, 'People are saying that I shouldn't vouch for @Kenny_T_Kunene, but I will vouch for him a million times. I know this man. He is a socialite, and his only crime is the accessibility of everyone to him. I believe his version. The party has a duty to treat everyone the same.' WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS? Victim of elephant tragedy identified as private Garden Route game reserve CEO
Authorities have confirmed the identity of the man killed in a tragic elephant encounter at Gondwana Private Game Reserve as FC Conradie, the CEO and co-owner of the reserve. He was 39. The fatal incident occurred at approximately 08:00 on Tuesday, 22 July, when Conradie was trampled by an elephant while on-site. Emergency services responded swiftly, but declared him dead at the scene. PHOTOS | Stunning sighting of last remaining Knysna elephant KwaNonqaba police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Kappie Kapp, confirmed that an inquest docket has been opened, and investigations are underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy. A spokesperson for the reserve, speaking on behalf of the Conradie family, issued a heartfelt plea for privacy. 'This is an incredibly painful time for his wife, children, and all who knew him. We ask for respect as the family processes this devastating loss.' Conradie was not only a business leader but a passionate conservationist. His sudden death has sent shockwaves through the South African conservation and eco-tourism community, with tributes pouring in to honour his legacy. Though elephant attacks are rare, experts note that even highly experienced individuals can be vulnerable around large wild animals. While generally calm, elephants can become unpredictable, especially under stress or if they feel threatened. Wildlife professionals have reiterated the importance of strict safety protocols, even in controlled environments such as private reserves. Conradie's leadership helped transform Gondwana into a leading private conservation destination on the Garden Route. He was admired for his commitment to eco-tourism, sustainable development, and wildlife protection. As investigations continue, colleagues and conservationists say his passion for preserving South Africa's natural heritage will remain an enduring part of his legacy. Mamelodi Sundowns pounce on star after Livingston visa blow
Mamelodi Sundowns look poised to land their first signing of the transfer window as they close in on a deal with highly-rated forward Aphelele Teto. Teto appears to have reached a mutual agreement with Scottish side Livingston FC to part ways after yet another failed visa application halted his move to the William Hill Premiership. The 22-year-old initially joined Livingston in 2023 on a four-year contract, having caught their attention during a European tour with TS Galaxy. However, bureaucratic red tape around work permits in the UK scuppered his plans before they could take off. Last season, Teto joined Chippa United on loan, a spell that earned him two international caps for Bafana Bafana in the CHAN qualifiers against Egypt. His national team appearances had briefly reignited hopes of qualifying for a work permit. Under the Scottish FA's rules, foreign players must meet strict benchmarks, such as a minimum percentage of national team appearances and a high FIFA ranking, to qualify for a permit. Although Teto's performances showed promise, they failed to tip the scale in his favour. 'The club can appeal to an Exceptions Panel,' explained a source familiar with the situation, 'but despite his international games, securing the visa remained an uphill battle.' With Livingston no longer able to hold onto the winger, Sundowns have made their move. The Premiership giants are believed to be offering Teto a permanent deal, seizing the opportunity to secure a dynamic attacker with international experience. Insiders say Livingston will continue tracking Teto's development. Keeping the door open for a future return to Europe once the visa hurdles are resolved. Concerns over the impact of repeated loan moves on his growth reportedly influenced Sundowns' decision to sign him outright. Offering Teto the stability he needs to reignite his career and push for more Bafana Bafana appearances. Will Teto make an impact at Mamelodi Sundowns?
