Internova Travel Group Marks Global Travel Advisor Day, 10th Anniversary of Family Bonds Foundation
NEW YORK, May 7, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — As the world celebrates Global Travel Advisor Day, Internova Travel Group is also marking a major milestone: the 10th anniversary of Family Bonds Foundation, its nonprofit initiative dedicated to supporting travel professionals and their families through life's toughest challenges.
Since its founding in 2015, the Foundation has provided more than 250 emergency grants to individuals across the U.S. affected by illness, job loss, natural disasters and other unexpected hardships. These grants have helped advisors rebuild their lives, often after devastating personal losses.
'This day is about honoring the dedication of travel advisors around the world,' said J.D. O'Hara, CEO of Internova Travel Group, one of the world's largest travel services companies representing more than 100,000 travel advisors. 'But it's also a powerful reminder of our responsibility to stand by the people who make travel possible when they need us most.'
In 2024 alone, Family Bonds Foundation raised a record-breaking $650,000, thanks to Internova's advisor network and the incredible generosity of supplier partners. Globus family of brands, Outside Agents, Pavlus Travel and Signature Travel Network served as Diamond sponsors, while Allianz Partners and AmaWaterways have already signed on as Diamond Plus donors in 2025, each committed to contributing at least $100,000 this year.
To mark its 10-year anniversary and build on this momentum, Internova has set its most ambitious fundraising goal yet—$800,000 in 2025—with major fundraising events planned at two flagship conferences: Travel Leaders Network's EDGE Conference, June 9-12 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, and Nexion's CoNexion Conference, Sept. 8-10 at the Universal Orlando Resort. Both events will feature public silent auctions and raffles with travel prizes including cruises, luxury stays and premium flights. Bidding opens online one week before each event.
'This foundation is not just for our company, it's for the entire travel advisor community,' said Jackie Friedman, President of Family Bonds Foundation and of Nexion Travel Group, a premium host agency within Internova Travel Group. 'We encourage all travel agencies and networks to join us in supporting the people who make this industry so special. Together, we can make an even bigger impact.'
The Foundation accepts nominations year-round, and anyone in the travel industry can nominate a U.S. colleague in need. The next nomination deadline is July 15, with recipients notified by August 1. This year, the Foundation aims to award more than 100 grants.

Red Bull buy English rugby strugglers Newcastle
LONDON: Red Bull further extended their interests in sport on Tuesday by investing in rugby union for the first time by taking over English top-flight strugglers Newcastle. The Austria-based energy drinks company already has significant interests in football, motor racing and winter sports. The club will now be known as Newcastle Red Bulls. Oliver Mintzlaff, Red Bull CEO corporate projects and investments, said their aim was to 'empower the club to reach its full competitive potential'. They face an uphill task as they take over a club that has failed to sparkle in recent years, finishing bottom in the past three Premiership campaigns. Semore Kurdi, who had been majority owner since 2011, put Newcastle up for sale towards the end of last year. 'Red Bull's takeover of Newcastle is a landmark moment for our sport and a powerful endorsement of our vision and strategy for the future of the PREM,' PREM chief executive Simon Massie-Taylor said in a statement, using the new name for the rebranded Premiership. 'We are hugely excited by Red Bull's ambition for the club, which includes developing the player pathway in the North East and growing the club's fanbase,' he added. He said Red Bull's 'track record in global sport' would bring 'enormous value not only to Newcastle but to the PREM as a whole'. There will be no upheavals at the top with the vastly-experienced Steve Diamond remaining the club's director of rugby. The Newcastle players will get a chance to show their qualities to their new owners when they get their season underway with a home match against six-time champions Saracens on September 26. But while Red Bull have won six Formula One constructors' championships and eight drivers' world titles, Diamond warned the new regime would take time to make its presence felt at Newcastle -- although it would deliver success. 'We'll be looking at world-class facilities, world-class players, world-class coaches coming to Newcastle over the next three or four years to hopefully dominate in the future,' Diamond told a conference call. He added: 'The situation has happened at a difficult time for recruiting, so the main job I've been doing for the last four weeks is getting my ducks in a row to have a competitive team for September.' Diamond, however, is in no doubt of the importance of Red Bull's investment given Newcastle's nearest rival Premiership club is Sale, more than 100 miles away. 'It future-proofs the professional game in the North East and the north,' he said. - AFP

Foundation donates RM100,000 to boost AI learning at Kian Kok
Published on: Tuesday, August 05, 2025 Published on: Tue, Aug 05, 2025 Text Size: Chin (4th from left) presenting a RM50,000 mock cheque to Clement, whole others look on. Kota Kinabalu: The Kinabalu Foundation has contributed RM100,000 to Kian Kok Middle School over the past two years in support of Chinese education and digital advancement, particularly in developing Artificial Intelligence (AI) learning infrastructure. The funding, disbursed in two phases, was used to improve the school's computer hardware and software. In 2024, RM50,000 was allocated to upgrade teachers' computer systems. This year, another RM50,000 was approved for the student computer lab, forming the base for the school's AI education programme. Kian Kok Middle School Board Chairman Datuk Clement Yeh said the assistance had helped the school take its first steps toward integrating AI-related modules into the curriculum. 'In today's education landscape, we cannot ignore technological developments. Students should have the opportunity to learn about systems like AI from an early stage. This contribution has helped us start building the necessary foundation,' he said. Advertisement He added that the school would have struggled to launch a structured AI programme without the Foundation's support due to limited resources. The Kinabalu Foundation, established in 1982, has long supported Chinese education in Sabah. To date, it has donated over RM4.28 million to schools statewide, benefiting more than 5,300 students through infrastructure upgrades, digital modernisation, and student assistance. In 2025 alone, the Foundation allocated RM401,000 to nine Chinese independent schools and seven converted Chinese secondary schools, including those in rural areas. Foundation Chairman Datuk Chin Chee Kee said the goal is to ensure that access to technology is not limited by location or resources. 'AI education should not be limited to schools in big cities. We want to help schools prepare students for the future,' he said. He said the Foundation's role goes beyond preserving language and culture, by also encouraging progress in science, technology and innovation within the Chinese school system. Kian Kok plans to use the latest grant to introduce AI-related subjects such as image recognition and basic programming and to provide training for teachers. The school aims to build a full AI education programme within three years. Since 1983, the Foundation has contributed more than RM16 million to Chinese education, including school construction, renovations, flood relief and rural teacher incentives. In 1997, it raised RM7.79 million through the 'Top Ten Charity Concert', with RM774,017 channelled to Kian Kok. From 2000 to date, it has awarded RM6.05 million in scholarships to 8,139 students and RM2.42 million in loans to 114 students pursuing tertiary education. 'The Kinabalu Foundation has given us not just funds but also the support to move forward with education upgrades,' said the school's administration. The RM100,000 contribution is part of the Foundation's wider effort to support Chinese schools in Sabah to adapt to new learning needs and technologies.

Selangor's PLATS programme records RM10mil in sales
KLANG: The Platform Selangor (PLATS) initiative, a digital entrepreneurship ecosystem spearheaded by the Selangor government, has recorded cumulative sales exceeding RM10 million. Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor, Head of the Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI) Foundation, said the figure reflects the success of various initiatives under the programme. "Based on our data, the Agrobank PLATS Ramadan Bazaar alone generated around RM8 million in sales," he told a press conference yesterday. "Additionally, data from the point-of-sale device system provided to our entrepreneurs shows nearly RM3 million in transactions." To date, 88,000 entrepreneurs have joined PLATS, edging closer to the target of 100,000 set by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. The programme primarily supports micro-entrepreneurs, including hawkers and small retailers, particularly in the food and beverage and service sectors. Ahmad Azri added that the foundation is collaborating with the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) to help entrepreneurs expand into international markets. "We'll be heading to Shanghai this November to explore opportunities for marketing our products there, as well as in the Middle East," he said. - BERNAMA
