Furious Scots restaurant hits back at customer's scathing two-star review – after they ‘didn't even eat'

A SCOTS restaurant has clapped back after a customer threw a "hissy fit" and left a scathing review - despite not even eating there.
Furious staff at The Ferry Inn, located in the quaint fishing village of Uig on the Isle of Skye, blasted the two-star review for its "unfounded critique" of the eatery.

The family-run diner is renowned for its delicious seasonal sharing plates crafted from fresh local produce.
It has garnered hundreds of glowing reviews on TripAdvisor and earned a 4.8 out of five-star rating on the popular travel guidance site.
The Ferry Inn opens for dinner from 5pm until 10pm and operates on a reservations-only basis.
It also boasts boutique bedrooms, a guest lounge and a fully stocked bar.

Tables at the restaurant are mostly reserved for overnight guests, with a limited number released to non-residents just four weeks in advance.
This system ensures an intimate dining experience but does mean that availability is limited.
But one disgruntled diner didn't take kindly to the booking policy and aired their grievances in a now-deleted Tripadvisor review entitled "Disappointed in lack of booking facilities."
They wrote: "Not particularly great experience, no availability for booking, nearest restaurant to where we are staying. Seems to be a lack of place to eat in Skye.

"We are disappointed in local restaurants and their lack of availability for dinner bookings. Thus restaurant was on our list to visit, but sadly could not accommodate till well in to June, July."
But staff at The Ferry were quick to hit back at the two-star review.

They branded the reviewer's behaviour a "hissy fit" and hit back with a fiery response, writing: "So now anyone who can't get a reservation with us is valid to leave us negative 'reviews'? Scary stuff if this the road we're going down because Skye is rammed until October.
"We book up months in advance. We explain everything in detail on our website and social media and on our outside signage.

"We have four tables a night, we're a family of four running a small inn. We have no staff, we're not running a mass operation. To have had this woman now write two reviews slamming us and the whole of Skye for her lack of forward planning is ludicrous.
"The worst part of this? (She) is still on the Island, sat in a holiday cottage up the road, abusing us online whilst we're flat out and we have to spend our time dealing with her utter nonsense?".
"If only (she) had spent this much time and effort researching her trip and booking restaurants - then none of us would be in this position.."
The scathing review was later removed, though it remains unclear whether the original poster deleted it themselves.

The restaurant took to social media once again to thank their supporters, continuing: "Big thanks for all your support in the matter - it's just a shame this has happened and happens to other businesses too, hospitality and otherwise!"
They added: "Just to reiterate, it's not about receiving an unhinged bad review - it's about the precedent it sets for more people to be able to leave negative/ non reviews when they can't get a table - not just for us but many other small businesses!".

The Reddit user who asked the question suggested that the view out over Loch Shiel from Glenfinnan in the Scottish Highlands is the best in the country. Loch Shiel is a freshwater loch located around 12 miles from Fort William, and is the fourth longest loch in Scotland. Glenfinnan is a hamlet in Lochaber that is located at the head of Loch Shiel. It can be found approximately halfway between Fort William and Mallaig, along the scenic West Highland Railway. Elsewhere, another Reddit user stated: "Glencoe. But in person as hard to get grasp via photos." Glencoe is also found in the Lochaber area of the Scottish Highlands. The village is nestled between the edges of Loch Leven and the mouth of the legendary Glen Coe. Glen Coe is considered Scotland's most iconic and dramatic glen. Often referred to as 'the home of mountaineering', it is especially popular amongst hikers and climbers. Meanwhile, another of the top replies on the post states: "Glen Affric. Live a long way from the Highlands now and even Scotland but this place is my happy place." Also located in the Scottish Highlands, Glen Affric is a glen situated near the village of Cannich. Often referred to as one of Scotland's most beautiful destinations, Glen Affric is home to one of the biggest areas of ancient Caledonian pinewoods in the country. Additionally, the glen features a huge variety of lochs and mountains to explore. Top beauty spots include Dog Falls, Loch Beinn a' Mheadhain, and Plodda Falls. In response to the question, one Reddit user stated: "Looking down the Bealach na Ba after having cycled up it. Bealach na Bà is a winding pass that travels through the mountains of the Applecross peninsula in Wester Ross. Its name is Gaelic for 'Pass of the Cattle', and is derived from its history as a drovers' road. As well as cycling, the route can also be passed via car. Widely considered to be among the most challenging drives in Scotland, it is not suitable for new drivers however. Another Reddit comment reads: "People always post lochs and Munros, but I think our temperate rainforests are under-appreciated." Most of Scotland's rainforest can be found in Argyll and the western Highlands, where conditions are wet and humid. There are approximately 30,000 acres to explore, offering lush green views to soak in.

Small Scottish distillery wins international recognition
The distillery in the Scottish Lowlands has won international recognition by taking home a gold medal at the 2025 International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) for its Moffat Moonshine, which it says is a 'wood-fired, unaged spirit made entirely in Dumfries & Galloway'. After all, deep cleaning the house means you don't need to worry about catching up on chores straight off the plane. However, pet owners should maybe think twice about leaving no mess behind them before they leave for the airport. In fact, vets have issued surprising advice for dog and cat parents - leave your dirty laundry behind. As 36 per cent of Brits say they're planning more holidays in 2025 than last year, owners are already counting down to their getaways. But what if the key to a calm pet while you're away is leaving your house a little messy? New research from TrustedHousesitters reveals that more than half of UK pet owners worry their pets feel abandoned when they travel. But vets say small steps – like leaving familiar smells around the home – can make a surprisingly big difference to pets' happiness and wellbeing. "Everyone likes their home comforts - pets included," Dr Rebecca MacMillan explains. "Pets thrive on familiarity and routine; it helps them to feel secure. Staying in an environment where they already feel safe will often mean they cope better when their owner is gone." Dr MacMillan adds that pets take comfort from having the smell of their owner around, plus their own pheromones which they will have marked around the home. "Even small sounds like the ticking of the kitchen clock or hearing the hum of the boiler starting up in the morning will be cues that your pet associates with their home," she went on. "Owners should still leave a clean, welcoming home for any sitter, family, or friend coming to watch pets. But when it comes to helping furry friends feel secure, leaving a few familiar items with your scent can make a big difference." Vet-approved ways to help your pet stay happy while you travel Dr MacMillan recommends these simple yet effective approaches for pet owners heading off on holiday. Don't deep clean before you go "Consider leaving a couple of items of clothing that you have worn for them to smell and snuggle with," Dr MacMillan explained. "This will help them to feel comforted in your absence." "Leaving your pet's bedding, toys, and even some clothes destined for the laundry basket around can help them feel connected to you." Keep routines as normal as possible Ask your sitter to stick to your pet's usual feeding times, walk times, and sleep schedule. "Keeping your pet in a routine as close to their normal one as possible will help them to feel more settled," advises Dr MacMillan. Use calming aids if needed Consider using a synthetic pet pheromone product to help act as an additional calming agent in their environment. "Plug-in diffusers are available, or you could use an impregnated collar or food supplement," suggests Dr MacMillan. If adding to your pet's diet, make sure to consult your vet first. Brief your sitter properly "Leave your sitter with plenty of instructions so that they understand your pet's daily schedule, likes and dislikes," says Dr MacMillan. "Creating a simple welcome guide with all essential information helps your sitter provide the best care possible. Include emergency contact numbers and your pet's medication schedule if applicable. "Feeding instructions, and notes about your pet's favourite spots, habits and any little quirks that make a difference day-to-day should also be noted." Minimise disruption Try not to make big changes like moving furniture or changing pet beds right before you leave.
