O'Neill homers again as Orioles rout Blue Jays 16-4 in the opener of a doubleheader
BALTIMORE (AP) — Tyler O'Neill homered for a fourth straight game, and the Baltimore Orioles tied a major league record with five sacrifice flies on Tuesday in a 16-4 rout of the Toronto Blue Jays in the opener of a doubleheader.
Ramon Urias homered twice, and Gunnar Henderson also went deep for the last-place Orioles, who have outscored the AL East leaders 27-8 in the first two games of this series.
Charlie Morton (7-8) allowed three runs in six innings for the Orioles, yielding a two-run homer by Addison Barger in the fourth.
Baltimore loaded the bases with nobody out in the first and third against Blue Jays starter Easton Lucas (3-3). O'Neill and Cedric Mullins hit sacrifice flies in the first, and Urías and Mullins did so in the third.
Toronto fought back to within a run before the Orioles scored six in the sixth. Henderson hit an RBI single, and O'Neill followed with a three-run shot. Then Urías hit a drive to center that made it 9-3.
Henderson added a three-run shot and Urías hit another solo homer in the seventh.
Joey Loperfido hit a solo homer for Toronto in the eighth.
Ali Sanchez, who caught the first seven innings, pitched the eighth for the Blue Jays. He struck out fellow catcher Alex Jackson swinging on a looping pitch clocked at 35 mph. Jackson Holliday hit Baltimore's fifth sacrifice fly later that inning. Key moment
With another game still to come, the Blue Jays left reliever Lazaro Estrada in to allow six runs in 3 1/3 innings. He hit two of the first three Baltimore batters in the sixth to start that big rally. Key stat
The sacrifice fly became official in 1954, and the Orioles are the fourth team to hit five in a game since then. The most recent had been Seattle in 2008. Up next

NFL insider confirms Ravens taking steps to sign three core contributors to extensions
The Ravens may be wisely moving closer to signing three core contributors to long-term contract extensions Every NFL franchise must find its mix of veteran leaders and a young core charged with leading its football team into the future. The Baltimore Ravens do that just about as well as anyone. For every Roquan Smith, there's a young and exciting Teddye Buchanan. One can only hope the youngster is soaking in everything the wily old vet has to tell him. If only life were like Madden NFL's franchise mode. Baltimore could just turn the salary cap off and sign whoever they very well please, but alas, it isn't. The task of juggling the numbers is the responsibility of Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta. If nothing changes between now and season's end, DeCosta and his team will have decisions to make about their impending free agents. Veterans like Mark Andrews, Kyle Van Noy, Jaire Alexander, and Odafe Oweh come to mind, but some of the young guys' numbers are coming up. According to an ESPN report, DeCosta and company are on top of things. Early extension plans show the Ravens' commitment to young core players ESPN's Dan Graziano recently provided an update on the expected contract negotiations of three Ravens. He visited Owing Mills on August 2nd and mentioned a few theories about the status of Kyle Hamilton, Tyler Linderbaum, and the recently injured Isaiah Likely. "The Ravens are working on a few contract extensions they hope to get done by the end of this season, including Hamilton, tight end Isaiah Likely, and center Tyler Linderbaum. Baltimore picked up Hamilton's fifth-year option. They declined Linderbaum's. The latter and Likely will both be free agents at season's end. We'll see what happens in light of Likely's injury, but it would seem he has done enough to prove he's worthy of a deal moving forward. Hamilton and Linderbaum share four Pro Bowls and two All-Pro nominations between them, though the pair of All-Pros are attached to Hamilton's name. To ensure the long-term success of this organization for years to come, they must be retained and preferably sooner rather than later, but everyone knows that, most notably, Eric DeCosta.
