Gurugram deploys special task force to combat illegal waste dumping
In a public notice issued by Pradeep Dahiya, MCG commissioner on Saturday, it was highlighted that the unauthorised dumping of trash by bulk waste generators and vehicle operators is causing severe environmental degradation, public nuisance, and a violation of statutory norms.
The notice, effective from Saturday, warns that anyone found in violation will face immediate and severe consequences. Under the provisions of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, violators are now liable for a fine of up to ₹1,00,000 per instance and a potential five-year imprisonment.
Additionally, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed that such actions will also incur environmental compensation as per Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) guidelines. The notice also reminds citizens and businesses of their obligations under the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which address public nuisance and damage to the environment.
To ensure compliance, the MCG has issued a separate office order to depute a specialised Sanitation Security Force (SSF). This team, composed of experts, gunmen, clerks, and helpers, is tasked with actively monitoring the city to prevent illegal dumping by private and unauthorised vehicles.
The SSF will operate in shifts, covering all hours, from 8.00am to 4.00pm, 4.00pm to 12.00am, and 12:00am to 8:00am. 'Their core responsibilities include documenting violations by capturing geo-tagged photos and videos of offending vehicles and immediately sharing this evidence on a designated WhatsApp group. The team is also mandated to coordinate with the police to ensure that all confiscated vehicles are impounded and that further legal action is initiated,' said Dahiya.
All bulk waste generators, including residential welfare associations (RWAs), hospitals, malls, schools, and business establishments, have been advised to ensure strict compliance with waste segregation and disposal rules, exclusively through authorised channels, said officials adding that vehicles involved in illegal dumping will not only be seized but also blacklisted from carrying out any future waste-handling activities within the MCG's jurisdiction.

Flipkart employee, an MBA student, held for theft of mobile phones in Delhi: Police
A 27-year-old employee of Flipkart was arrested for allegedly stealing high-value mobile phones from the e-commerce company, police said on Sunday. The accused was identified as Manish Kumar, they said. A case was registered on August 9 at Sagarpur police station following a complaint from Pankaj, a representative of Instakart Services Pvt Ltd, a Flipkart subsidiary, about the theft of expensive phones from the Dasrathpuri office. A case under Sections 305 (theft) and 331(4) (trespassing) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was lodged and an investigation was initiated, police said. Police activated local informers while simultaneously conducting digital surveillance to track movements linked to the suspected theft. Investigators said that during inquiries, Manish emerged as a prime suspect. On August 13, acting on a tip-off, a police team apprehended him from Sagarpur area. During sustained questioning, he allegedly confessed to having stolen mobile phones while working as a team leader with Instakart. He also admitted to having disabled the CCTV cameras at the premises before committing the theft. According to police, Manish is an MBA student who has worked at the company for around 10 months. Preliminary interrogation revealed that he had encountered financial distress but had to still pay the EMIs of a loan he had taken. He was allegedly not able to handle the crisis with his 'insufficient' salary. This, police said, drove him to commit the theft. Two iPhones and a OnePlus mobile phone were recovered from the possession of the accused, police said.

Spike in job fraud: Police register five new cases
Thiruvananthapuram: In the recent times, there has been a rise in number of people being scammed out of lakhs of rupees with false promises of jobs in the govt and private sectors, as well as abroad. In the past 24 hours alone, five new cases have been registered across four police stations in the city. According to police, more than 30 such cases were registered in the district in the past 30 days. In some cases, the victims were offered jobs in Pollution Control Board, Indian Railways, Vikram Sarabhai Space Center, Isro and abroad. Peroorkada, Museum, Kazhakkoottam, and Cantonment police have registered the five new cases against two agencies and several other people under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 318 (2) for cheating and 319 (4) for criminal breach of trust. Peroorkada police registered two cases against an agency operating at Kowdiar for defrauding Rs 3 lakh each from two men by offering jobs in a toy factory in Hungary. Museum police booked a Madavoor-based man for cheating a 31-year-old Uchakada native by taking of Rs 3.9 lakh by offering a job in Hungary. Bengaluru couple assaulted with cricket bat after tiff over child touching cattle food
Bengaluru: A couple was allegedly assaulted with a cricket bat by their neighbours in Vidyamanyanagar near Andrahalli, northwest Bengaluru, on Aug 14 following a quarrel over a child touching a bucket of cattle food. The victims are Sowmya GK, a tailor, and her husband Gangadhar, 39, an auto driver. In her complaint to Byadarahalli police, Sowmya alleged that Rajeshwari, her son, and their associates attacked them late in the night after an argument spiralled out of control. The trouble began at 12.30pm when Sowmya's six-year-old son returned from school and went out to play. While playing, he touched a bucket filled with cattle food that Rajeshwari had kept outside her house. Rajeshwari and her family members scolded the child. Sowmya intervened, saying her son was only six and did not understand that it was cattle food, and pointed out that the food remained intact in the bucket. After a brief exchange, both families returned indoors. Gangadhar was kicked, pushed into a drainage ditch, and the house windows were damaged. The men threatened the family with dire consequences before leaving. Byadarahalli police registered a case of assault. However, after the incident was reported on TV channels, police re-recorded Sowmya's statement and added charges of attempted murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
