Fan Bingbing, Lee Kang-Sheng Star as Hong Kong's HAF Unveils 15 Work-in-Progress Projects, Alumni Head to Berlin
Hong Kong International Film Festival Society's (HKIFF)'s Hong Kong – Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) has announced a slate of 15 work-in-progress features, showcasing a mix of established auteurs and emerging talent from across Asia.
The projects will be presented at the expanded HKIFF Industry Project Market, running March 17-19 alongside Hong Kong's FilMart. They join a slate of previously announced 25 in-development projects.

Leading the pack are new works from acclaimed filmmakers, including Golden Horse winner Huang Ji's 'A Woman Builds,' co-directed with Otsuka Ryuji, which explores a Chinese woman's quest to build a house while separated from her Japanese family during COVID-19. Qiu Jiongjiong, whose 'A New Old Play' nabbed Locarno's Special Jury Prize, returns with 'Fuxi: Joy in Four Chapters,' a dark comedy about Sichuan cuisine featuring 'Stranger Eyes' star Lee Kang-Sheng.
Other notable projects include Chong Keat Aun's 'Mother Bhumi,' headlined by Chinese superstar Fan Bingbing, a mystery about a widowed farmer confronting her husband's death, Sakamoto Yukari's supernatural boarding school tale 'White Flowers and Fruits' with 'Drive My Car' producer Yamamoto Teruhisa, and Yashasvi Juyal's migrant worker drama 'The Ink-Stained Hand and the Missing Thumb.'
The lineup marks several directorial debuts, including Indonesian actor Reza Rahadian's 'Pangku,' tackling the controversial practice of lap-sitting in coffee shops, and Tribeny Rai's 'Shape of Momo,' which earned top honors at India's NFDC Film Bazaar WIP lab.
Genre offerings include Isabel Sandoval's 1970s Manila-set 'Moonglow,' starring the director alongside Arjo Atayde, and Wang Tong's 'Wild Nights, Tamed Beasts,' featuring Wan Qian and Qu Chuxiao in a twisted romance between a zookeeper and a serial killer.
The youth-focused slate includes Ang Geck Geck's 'Ah Girl,' about a seven-year-old caught between divorced parents, and Tracy Choi's 'Girlfriends,' starring Jennifer Yu and Fish Liew in a tri-city romance spanning Macau, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Joining them are Gong Yiwen's documentary-styled 'Her First Taste,' capturing raw adolescent emotions through an amateur cast, and Li Jing's 'Name and Hair,' following a teenage girl's quest to change her identity.
Rounding out the WIP selection are emerging filmmakers Emetjan Memet's 'Good Drink Pub,' a Xinjiang-set romantic comedy about a lovelorn pub owner, and Liu Xing's 'Say My Name,' starring Yoyo Tse and Jack Tan in a tale of identity deception and romance.
The forum has also proven its industry muscle with four alumni projects making waves in Europe. Huo Meng's 'Living the Land' competes for Berlin's Golden Bear, while Jun Li's 'Queerpanorama' and Min Kyu-dong's 'Pag-wa' screen in Panorama and Special sections respectively. Li Dongmei's 'The Fruit' recently premiered in Rotterdam's Tiger Competition.
The projects will participate in open pitch sessions at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, offering industry professionals first looks at these upcoming features from the region.

South Knoxville losing one of its most popular restaurants amid Sevier Avenue construction
As streetscape construction ramps up, a popular restaurant at the east end of Sevier Avenue is closing after almost a decade in South Knoxville. Landing House owner Zach Land took to Instagram on May 19 to announce the restaurant's closure. June 8 will be the last day open for Landing House, which is uniquely located in a house rather than a typical restaurant space. It's part of the allure for the Chinese and Cambodian-style restaurant near the Sevier Avenue intersection of Island Home Avenue and Foggy Bottom Street, where a roundabout is being built for the streetscape project. Landing House was one of the first spots along the South Knoxville corridor that transformed the street from a desolate, seemingly uninviting stretch into a hotpot for those looking to grab a drink, enjoy a meal and spend the day outside. "Ten years ago, my wife Hao and I saw a 'For Sale' sign on a neat, creepy old house in the neighborhood we lived. Sevier Ave was a desolate place that was honestly … a little sketchy," Land wrote in the Instagram post. "Now that shabby little neighborhood we once knew is completely unrecognizable." Landing House changed that perception, with popular menu items like chicken and shrimp pho, beef filet fried rice and chili crisp noodles making the restaurant stand out as a culinary anchor on Sevier Avenue. The street is now home to a variety of restaurants, bars and breweries, from Redbud Kitchen and Angry Dumplings Tea to Alliance Brewing Company and Hi-Wire Brewing. Balter Beerworks executive chef Hux Jones said in 2023 that Landing House chef Derek Martin was his favorite in Knoxville. "I am so impressed with all the progression he has had with his culinary career," Jones wrote about Martin at the time. "He has really embraced the Asian cuisine with full force." Knox News has also recognized Landing House as one of the best restaurants around town. After A Dopo earned a spot on USA TODAY's Restaurants of the Year list in 2025, Knox News recognized Landing House as one of the restaurants we wish made the list. "We thought it would be great for people to have a place to grab some food to go along with their local craft beers and plowed head first into the insanely scary and hectic world of restaurant ownership," the Instagram post read. Land said in the post it's best to close Landing House "on our own terms than be forced to close in the future." Five months into the 18-month construction period for the $19.2 million city streetscape, Landing House is in a complicated position, with parking made more difficult by the under-construction roundabout and other street work. Streetscape construction is expected to last until summer 2026. "Our business has grown substantially every year we have been open and that is due to your loyal patronage and word of mouth and that means the world to us," Land wrote. Ed Sheeran Celebrates India on Rousing Single ‘Sapphire'
Ed Sheeran has released a new single, 'Sapphire.' The song, off his forthcoming album Play, is accompanied by a music video shot in India. The video features appearances by Arijit Singh, who sings and plays sitar on the track, and Shah Rukh Khan. 'Sapphire,' produced by Ilya Salmanzadeh, Johnny McDaid, and Savan Kotecha, showcases South-Asian percussion as Sheeran sings about passion with a lover. 'Touching on your body while you're pushing on me/ Don't you end the party I could do this all week/ We'll be dancing till the morning/ Go to bed we won't sleep,' he sings on the lively track. "She's Got No Name" unveils first official poster
6 Jun - Two years after the first announcement, Peter Chan's "She's Got No Name" finally unveiled the first official poster for the first part of the movie. The poster reveals the looks of all the cast for the first time, sparking interests of fans who mostly commented that all of the actors seemed unrecognisable and are truly immersed in their characters. This includes lead actress Zhang Ziyi, whose character has scars covering her face; Yang Mi looking dishevelled in her character as a female prisoner, Jackson Yee in shades and equipped with a cane as a blind fortune teller, as well as Zanilia Zhao, looking glamorous as a writer. Fans also couldn't help but notice that both Zanilia and Yang Mi are placed on each side of the poster. The decision seemed to be a way to avoid the fandom of both actresses from arguing on who is the bigger star. Since the film debuted in the non-competitive section of the Cannes Film Festival last year, there has been no further news until it was recently announced as the opening film of the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival. What is noteworthy is that the film has recently been announced to be divided into two parts, the first of which has the Chinese title of "Jiangyuan Lane: Mystery".
