Colts' DT DeForest Buckner weighs in on Anthony Richardson's training camp performance
Naturally, the quarterback competition was part of the conversation, specifically what Buckner has seen from Richardson during this training camp.
"Just his sense of urgency," Buckner said. "The way he responded to having a quarterback competition. He was open to it and he was ready for it. And you could tell when he got back and the camp that he's been able to put together. It's been fun to see."
Along with Buckner seeing elevated play from Richardson this summer, guard Quenton Nelson recently offered high praise for the Colts' quarterback as well.
Wanting to improve his accuracy on the short to intermediate passes, Richardson spent a lot of time on his footwork this offseason, which is where proper mechanics and accuracy often begins for a quarterback.
That work is showing up on the practice field, with Richardson putting together a much more efficient showing overall this summer.
That doesn't mean it's been perfect or there isn't room for improvements, but when he's had a down day, Richardson has been able to bounce back.
'Everything's cleaner right now,' Steichen said during training camp, via Colts.com. 'He's playing at a high level, he's making good decisions with the football, taking the completions when needed, so it's been really good to see.'
The next step for Richardson is showcasing these improvements during the preseason.

CHICAGO (AP) — Freddy Peralta allowed one hit and struck out six batters and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Chicago Cubs 7-0 in the first half of a Monday doubleheader. Sinner vows to play US Open after Cincy retirement
Jannik Sinner insisted on Monday he would be ready to defend his US Open crown after illness forced him to retire from his Cincinnati Open final clash with Carlos Alcaraz. World number one Sinner -- who is due to to play in the US Open's revamped mixed doubles tournament on Tuesday -- conceded defeat to Alcaraz on Monday after going 5-0 down in the first set. The Italian did not speak to journalists after the loss, issuing a statement saying only that he would definitely play at the US Open in New York, where the singles main draw starts on Sunday. "I love Grand Slams a lot, they are the main tournaments for, for my season and my career," Sinner said. "The US Open is going to be a tough tournament, but in the same time, I'm looking forward to it if I'm ready, physically and mentally. "I will be ready to push ... now a couple of days of recovery, and then we get again back to work, and hopefully we'll be ready. "(The Open) is for sure, the main goal here in the US. Royals' Salvador Perez out with illness in series opener against Rangers
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals scratched catcher Salvador Perez from the starting lineup of their series opener against the Texas Rangers on Monday night because of an illness. Perez was supposed to catch for starter Michael Wacha and bat fifth in the opener of an important four-game set between teams clinging to wild-card hope. Luke Maile will be behind the plate instead and bat eight in the lineup. Perez, a nine-time All-Star, is hitting .244 with 22 homers and 70 RBIs this season. Maile has become the primary backup in Kansas City after it sent Freddy Fermin to the Padres ahead of last month's nonwaiver trade deadline.
