Rajasthan Royals endured a difficult 2025 season under a new team management, with Rahul Dravid joining as head coach to work with Sanju Samson. The side finished ninth in the table with just four wins in 14 matches, and roughly two months after the season, rumors began about Sanju Samson potentially leaving the franchise. Despite leading the team to the IPL 2022 final and establishing himself as a key figure in the squad, Samson's future with the Royals remains in doubt. Amid the growing speculations over his place in the team, Sanju Samson sat with former RR teammate and India great Ravichandran Ashwin, speaking in detail about his time so far with the Royals, and how captaincy has changed his outlook towards the game.
'Captaincy has opened up my perspective and helped me to accept these kind of ways. There is no one way of succeeding in cricket. I don't believe that there is only one way. When people are trying different things, I like to back them instead of questioning them,' Samson stated during an appearance on Ravichandran Ashwin's show, Kutti Stories with Ash.
This mindset is perfectly embodied in his teammate Shimron Hetmyer's unusual matchday routine, which Samson described with both amusement and admiration. Hetmyer, known for his power-hitting prowess and sometimes erratic international career, follows a laid-back pre-game schedule that would raise eyebrows in any professional setup.
'But this guy, the match is at 8 PM, he will wake up at 5 PM, and be all sleepy during team meetings and all. Then he will score the most important runs for the team and win them the game. So, there is a way to do like that also,' Samson revealed.

Sanju also reminisced about his own disciplined routines before captaincy, emphasizing how his focus used to be narrower, centered mainly on his individual performance.
'Before I was a captain, I was a player; at that time, it was only about my ways. I'm like I need to do these things, these kinds of practices. I need to score runs at these kind of patterns, and that is how success is made.'
But the captaincy role expanded his understanding, teaching him to embrace and trust the different personalities and methods within the team.

Rajasthan Royals' Post On Sanju Samson Viral Amid Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders Trade Rumours

Rajasthan Royals (RR) Sanju Samson has been in the news of late, having reportedly expressed his desire to leave the franchise ahead of the next Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. Cricbuzz recently reported that the differences between the two parties is so severed that the cricketer's family is openly saying that Samson does not want to continue with RR. "Serious differences have cropped up between Sanju Samson and the Royals management - so much so that the designated captain has formally requested to be traded or released into the auction," the report stated. "Members of Samson's family openly say that he no longer wishes to continue with the Royals. Some current IPL and international players close to him also indicate that his relationship with the franchise has not exactly been the way it used to be." Despite the rumours, Samson has remained tight-lipped over his future. During a recent interaction with former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin, Samson laughed off the rumours and credited RR for playing a major role in shaping his career. Recently, RR took to social media and shared a post quoting Samson remark. "RR means the world to me," Samson had said on Ashwin's YouTube channel a few days back. — Rajasthan Royals (@rajasthanroyals) August 10, 2025 Reports have claimed that Samson has requested for a direct trade or a release ahead of the next IPL auction. Franchises like Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have been linked to Samson in recent weeks. Samson, who was one of the five players retained by RR ahead of the mega auction, missed the majority of IPL 2025 due to an injury. RR crashed to a ninth-place finish in IPL 2025, which saw Riyan Parag captain the team on multiple occasions in Samson's absence. If Samson does leave RR, it would bring an end to their 11-year association.

‘Let it begin': Rohit Sharma working with Abhishek Nayar with Australia ODIs on the horizon

Just days after Virat Kohli posted a photo of himself after a training session, fellow India veteran Rohit Sharma has also posted a picture of himself with former assistant coach Abhishek Nayar in the gym. Nayar reposted that with the caption that said: 'Let it begin'. According to PTI, Rohit has begun training with Nayar at a suburban Mumbai facility after taking a break of a couple of months from cricket following the IPL. Rohit retired from T20Is after leading India to victory in the T20 World Cup last year and then from Tests during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). This has left ODIs as the only format in which he plays international cricket and India next play one only in October when they tour Australia. Kohli has also retired from T20Is and Tests and this has led to a lot of specuation around his and Rohit's future with the Indian ODI team. Nayar was sacked as India's assistant coach in April this year after India's dismal run of form in Tests. Rohit is known to work with him on occassion personally and Nayar remains a reputed batting coach. KL Rahul had worked with Nayar prior to the recently concluded five-match Test series in England, in which he ended up scoring 532 runs. Considered one of the greatest opening batters of all time, Rohit has scored 11,168 runs in 273 ODIs at an average of 48.76 with 32 centuries and 58 half-centuries. He is the only batter to have scored three double centuries in men's ODIs and his 264 remains the highest-ever score by any player in the format. Rohit had led a dominant India to the final of the 2023 World Cup. However, while they were hardly challenged by any team throughout the tournament, India were thoroughly outplayed by Australia in the final and lost by six wickets, a result that Rohit admitted in later months took a big toll on him mentally and emotionally.

Rohit Sharma gears up for India comeback amid speculations of ODI retirement; hits gym in Mumbai after long vacation

Amid speculations of ODI retirement, India captain Rohit Sharma has hit the gym in Mumbai in preparation for the white-ball away series against Australia in October. Following the commencement of Indian Premier League (IPL), where his team Mumbai Indians were ousted in the knockouts, Rohit took a long vacation with his family. Having retired from Tests and T20Is, Rohit took a brief break from cricket and headed out to Abu Dhabi and Switzerland before landing in the United Kingdom. He was even spotted cheering for the Indian team on Day 3 of the fifth Test at The Oval. Upon returning home, Rohit straightaway hit the gym with his longtime friend and Abhishek Nayar. In an Instagram story, Rohit shared a picture with Nayar, who also happened to be former India assistant coach. While Rohit called it a day in T20Is in 2024, the 38-year-old he bid adieu to the longest format just before the England tour in June. The last time Rohit played for India was during the ICC Champions Trophy in February and March.
