The Eagles and Browns are set for their third meeting of the week, this time a more formal preseason game with starters for both teams sitting out. Saturday afternoon offers another chance for players on the roster bubble and under-the-radar performers to carve out a role on a Super Bowl-contending team with very few holes or available opportunities at key positions.
With kickoff fast approaching, we're looking at five Eagles to watch on Saturday.
RB Montrell Johnson
The UDFA running back from Florida offers size and speed at the running back position, and we'll make his preseason debut after suffering a hamstring injury.
WR Ainias Smith
A player we had squarely on the roster bubble showed his explosive traits in the preseason opener against the Bengals. Smith caught a touchdown pass and also added a 46-yard punt return on the night.
OL Brett Toth
Toth was the first player up following Landon Dickerson's meniscus injury, and Saturday offers an opportunity to put space between the versatile veteran and players like Darian Kinnard.
DT Gabe Hall
The second-year defensive tackle from Baylor is one of the Eagles' most improved players and will look to improve on his 49 snap performance in the preseason opener. Hall made the Eagles comfortable trading Thomas Booker, and a solid performance could put him in position behind Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Moro Ojomo, and Ty Robinson.
S Drew Mukuba
The No. 64 overall pick from Texas missed the first preseason game with a shoulder injury that also kept him out of practice, and a mediocre performance could put him behind Sydney Brown in the safety competition.
CB Jakorian Bennett
The third-year CB will make his preseason debut after getting acquired in a trade from the Raiders. With Kelee Ringo and Adoree Jackson unable to lock down the cornerbacks spot, Saturday offers a chance for Bennett to stake his claim.
CB Kelee Ringo
Entering training camp, Ringo seemed like the favorite to win the job. Against the Bengals, the Eagles rested Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, leaving all the action for Kelee Ringo and Adoree' Jackson. Ringo allowed a 36-yard catch-and-run touchdown to Ja'Marr Chase, and whiffed on the tackle, adding further scrutiny to a tough night.

ESPN's 'Get Up' program: Bills QB Josh Allen called 'best to never get there'

This past week on ESPN's Get Up, host Mike Greenberg made his case for why Bills QB and NFL MVP Josh Allen is the best player at his position to never start in a Super Bowl. The Buffalo Bills have made it to the AFC Championship game twice since drafting Allen, once in 2020 and once in 2024, losing both times to the Kansas City Chiefs. Both times, Allen and the offense did enough multiple times in the game to give the Bills a chance to win The team has continued to add and secure talent on both sides of the ball. About the only things Allen and the team have not done since he became their quarterback are securing a No. 1 seed and first-round bye in the playoffs, reaching a Super Bowl, or winning a Super Bowl. Could this be the year that changes? Allen does appear to be the best quarterback not to make it to the Super Bowl, on account of him and Patrick Mahomes being far and away historic players of their generation at the position. Here's what Greenberg had to say: 'As we pondered what is at stake in this 2025 NFL season for various players, we stumbled onto this. Josh Allen has the chance to remove his name from a place that no name ever wants to occupy, namely, the greatest quarterback never to play in a Super Bowl, because he is that. And it's getting late early for his chances. Let me explain. Allen has already started 13 playoff games. The most that any quarterback ever started before making the big game was 12. Allen has thrown 25 postseason touchdowns. The most anyone else threw before making the Super Bowl was just 17. That was Peyton Manning, by the way. So Allen is well behind the curve. And candidly, it's not as though he can play much better. The numbers say he might be the best postseason quarterback ever. I told you he has thrown 25 playoff touchdowns. There are a total of 21 quarterbacks who've thrown at least 20. He's the only one not to start a Super Bowl. In his four playoff runs that ended in losses to Kansas City. Allen has accounted for 28 touchdowns and one turnover. That is across 10 games and 424 passes and runs. His touchdown to interception ratio in the playoffs by a wide margin, the best of all time. It's over 6 to 1. Mahomes is second at less than 5 to 1. In playoff history, teams that score at least three touchdowns with zero turnovers are 140 and 19. Allen is the only quarterback to lose more than one of those games. He has lost three of them all in the last four years, all against Kansas City. So, the case on that part of this is closed. Josh Allen is the best quarterback never to start a Super Bowl. The open question is, being still only 29, is there still another level he can take this to change that?'

Super Bowl–winning ex-Eagles standout continues to miss time with new team

A former Eagles Super Bowl winner remains absent from practice with his new team. It's often impossible to immediately quantify the success of an NFL trade. It's just as difficult to measure the impact of seeing a critical Philadelphia Eagles contributor leave the organization in free agency to continue his dream in another city. Often, the aftershocks of a roster shakeup involving two teams can't be measured until months or even years after its announcement. Philadelphia has seen good fortune recently. They won the Carson Wentz and A.J. Brown trades, and often, when they have taken chances on free agents, those moves have also led to some satisfactory labor from new additions and bridge players. Mekhi Becton continues to miss Chargers training camp practices Mekhi Becton is one of those solid signings referenced. Philadelphia rolled the dice on him this past season to the tune of a one-year deal intended to prove his mettle. Becton arrived in Philadelphia, and there were questions about his attitude and injury history. Fortune shone on him. For the most part, he stayed relatively healthy. There were no complaints about his attitude, as he was once quoted as saying he had never had so much fun playing football. But every offseason brings the same dilemma. There is only so much money to spread around in free agency. The Eagles had Tyler Steen on deck and other roster needs. Becton was allowed to leave the organization via free agency. He signed with the Los Angeles Chargers. Sadly, the injuries have returned, but his ailments haven't been made public. Plus, there hasn't been any timetable mentioned for when he might return. We're still in the training camp and preseason process, so NFL teams aren't required to provide weekly injury reports. There is, however, growing concern coming out of Los Angeles. Becton hasn't practiced since July. There hasn't been anything concrete stating when he will again. Might this be evidence that the Eagles moved off of him at the right time? It's certainly an interesting discussion. Steen has taken over for the Eagles as their starting right guard, waiting in the wings are guys like Brett Toth, Matt Pryor, and Trevor Keegan. Losing a starting caliber player is always worth mentioning. Fortunately, it appears Philadelphia won in this regard. They saved money at the position, and no one has to spend time racking their brain over what's going on with an expensive player. Becton will always be loved and respected in the City of Brotherly Love as a champion, but for now, his continued NFL story has tapped the 'pause' button.
