Love Island under fire as viewers slam bullies with over 9000 Ofcom complaints filed
Love Island has been hit with a large number of Ofcom complaints after scenes featuring Shakira aired on the show. The ITV2 hit is coming close to the end, with the finale just days away.
Outraged viewers lodged complaints with broadcasting regulator Ofcom over scenes they felt showed the Islanders to be bullying Shakira. In total 9,339 complaints were submitted on this issue, with an additional 298 concerning Blu's treatment of Toni.
Elsewhere, Ofcom received 55 complaints about Megan's return to the villa, and a further 29 complaints expressing concern for Harry following his breakup with Helena and his emotional confession about his feelings for Shakira. This comes after Harry's unusual fetish was revealed on the show, sparking disgust among fans for a very specific reason, the Mirror reports.
This emotional scene unfolded last week and at the start of this week, as both Helena and Shakira broke down after being manipulated and set against each other. With the return of the Grafties to the villa, even more heartache followed.
Shakira had decided to call it quits on her relationship with Conor, confessing she had "suppressed emotions" over Harry.
In the video clips played out at the Grafties, Harry was seen flirting with Shakira and saying it was a "good idea" for the pair to start fresh and get to know each other again.
Later Harry confessed to Conor that he felt that he and Helena, who he asked to become exclusive with days prior, shared just a friendship connection and nothing more, but his bond with Shakira felt more "natural".
Both Shakira and Helena struggled to watch the Grafties clips showing Harry's behaviour, and
they broke down multiple times as they learned the truth.
Following the events from the Grafties, Harry and Shakira had a conversation, with him confessing: "I have really tried with her [Helena], but we had like a week and it was, for me, the feelings were obviously way stronger and still are. I'm sorry I never tried again. I really thought the door was just, like, slammed."
She replied: "Do you want some home truths… it's obviously the way you go about it and the steps you take in between to come to these conclusions obviously hurt people along the way."
"It's all well and good you saying 'hold my hands up guys, sorry' but you still hurt people. And it's a pattern," she continued.
Harry then bluntly stated: "Look, I'm either leaving here alone or with you."
Love Island returns tonight, with the grand finale set to air next week (August 4) as the public votes for their winning couple. Several dumpings are expected in the lead-up, as the remaining Islanders are gradually narrowed down before the final.

ITV's press release states: 'The extensive renovation will be followed every step of the way as Josie attempts to assemble her dream home, complete with an on-site gym, walk-in wardrobe, and blacked out windows. 'And as she adapts to new surroundings, Josie will be building lots of new friendships with neighbours who could prove integral towards making her renovation dreams a reality.' Speaking about her new show, Josie said: 'My dream is to build a house as eco and luxurious as possible where you are immersed in the sanctuary of nature.
