Debenhams shopper's 'all time favourite' watch down 85% to £74 ahead of Father's Day

Daily Record7 days ago

!I bought this watch and cant be happier! The design is great and I got so many compliments! I will definitely buy Stuhrling again.!
With Father's Day just a few weeks away, now may be the best time to start thinking about what present to give your relatives this year. Planning ahead is more relaxing than stressing out over the last minute sales where the gift might not even arrive in time.
A practical idea to give as a present is a watch, as it will hopefully last the recipient a good few years. While useful for telling the time throughout the day, watches also have the ability to add an extra touch of elegance and sophistication for an event.
Thankfully, Debenhams has tons of timepieces in their sale so you can pick up a great watch for the dad in your life without breaking the bank. One of the best offers is on the STÜHRLING Original Aeronaut Quartz Aviator Watch.
Normally retailing for £480, shoppers can now snatch up this functional accessory for just £74.25 thanks to an incredible 85 per cent discount.
Described as a timepiece that "dares to be bold", the Aeronaut watch is powered by a Japanese Quartz movement that is said to deliver "ultra-accurate precision". As well as keeping shoppers on track, this watch also boasts a day of the week and month feature for added convenience.
On top of this, the timepiece is said to deliver "unparalleled comfort". With bold rivets and a brushed stainless steel signed tang buckle, the 41mm "juggernaut" will hug the wrist with style due to its 22mm alligator-embossed leather strap.

Product Description
Boasting style and practicality, the timepiece comes in three colourways to match everyone's preferences. Debenhams shoppers can choose between either a black, light brown or blue strap, with different coloured luminous hands and markers for each.
Another timepiece in the Debenhams sale is the STÜHRLING Original 1000 Quartz 44mm Chronograph Watch. Usually with a hefty price tag of £2,400, bargain hunters can now snap this watch up in either black or red for the much cheaper price of £161.25.
Alternatively, Argos has slashed 50 per cent off the Citizen Men's Eco-Drive Watch, which normally retails for £299. However, savvy shoppers can now grab it for £148.99 in the sale. With a water resistance of 100m, this timepiece gives the time in both 12 and 24 hours.
However, from shoppers on the Debenhams and Stuhrling websites, the Aeronaut watch has received a wide variety of reviews, with one shopper claiming they will be back to buy more of the timepieces crafted by Stuhrling.
One happy watch-lover wrote: "What a piece of kit, top quality. It's even better than I thought, absolutely brilliant. l will treasure this, thank you so very much."
While another five-star reviewer added: "I've used many watches in my life and this is my all time favourite. I wear it for the military and it's held up fantastic. Months in the field, water, mud, sand, you name it and this watch has been in it.
"I replaced the pins with 24mm pins and threw a Nato strap on it and I never looked back. I have a luminox and wore it but it's not as reliable or as nice as this watch. I've had it for about 4 years and haven't replaced the battery yet."
However, one person wasn't pleased with the quality of the watch, writing: "Good but not great. It looks a lot better in pictures than in person. I'm sure some other of the more expensive models may be made in a higher quality. Overall it's just good. What's the old saying, 'you get what you pay for'."
While another person struggled with the band: "Great watch my only complaint is I have big wrists and it barely fits on the second to last hole. Hoping the leather band will stretch out over time. Great watch for the price."
Fashion deal of the week
Looking for a new wardrobe staple that will be comfortable all summer long?
The Next's Wide Leg Trousers with linen might be up your street. In fact, they are so popular with other shoppers who say they "can't wait" to wear them when the weather heats up.
Available in a selection of colours and prints, there is a pair for everyone. However, prices do range from as low as £22 to £49, but this does depend on the style that shoppers select.
Ideal for balmy days, these trousers have been designed in a looser fit than usual and have been crafted from a soft material with added linen. Boasting the on-trend wide-leg design, it's no wonder shoppers are calling them "very comfortable" to wear.
They also feature an elasticated waistband that won't dig into the stomach, while two practical side pockets finish the design. A hit for summer, these linen trousers can be paired with flip-flops, loose fitting tops and even swimwear when by the beach.
Available in both petite and regular, they can be bought in sizes eight through to 20. Just a few options shoppers can choose from include a basic black, red and chocolate brown, while vibrant patterns of palm trees and florals are also included.
Multiple colours of the Next trousers boast glowing reviews, as one reads: "Lovely flowing cut, very flattering. Can't wait to wear these when the weather is better!"
A second shopper praised: "Great fit. Very flattering. Can be dressed up or down for day or night wear."
Next's Wide Leg Trousers with Linen range from £22 to £49 and can be bought here.
On the flip side, another shopper praised: "I love the look of this watch, kind of edgy and technical at the same time. The band is a bit stiff, but excellent once you get used to it in my opinion.
"It's a bit quirky from a mechanical standpoint and interesting how it displays the days of the week. The quality and appearance for the price are excellent, and I will probably look to this company for my future watch needs."
Another five-star reviewer also chimed in: "I bought this watch and couldn't be happier! The design is great and I got so many compliments! I will definitely buy Stuhrling again."

Mapped: The changing face of Princes Street

With vacancies at their lowest rate in many years and several major redevelopments underway, including work to turn the former Jenners, Debenhams and Forsyth's department stores into hotels with retail on ground floors, the street is poised to take on a new identity — one increasingly shaped by hospitality and leisure. More stories from our series on The Future of Edinburgh: According to business improvement district group Essential Edinburgh, recent investment figures have totalled around £1.7 billion, including £150 million Johnnie Walker Experience in the former Frasers at the west end of Princes Street and the £48m Jenners revamp. Meanwhile plans to change long-abandoned offices and storage space in the upper floors of buildings into visitor accommodation have been approved by the council, while a relaxation of planning policies around retail uses in 2020 means more coffee shops, restaurants and supermarkets are moving into Princes Street. To show what's happening at this critical juncture for Princes Street - and what's coming next - we've built an interactive map as part of our series exploring the Future of Edinburgh. This lets you explore key sites along the street, including current vacancies, ongoing redevelopments, and new occupants already open or preparing to launch. Read more:

Major rule change for millions of EV drivers across England – will YOU be affected?

It's hoped that it will save both money and time for drivers and the planning committees. Lilian Greenwood, the Future of Roads Minister, announced the news. She said in an announcement: "More drivers will be able to save up to £1,100 a year as the government cuts red tape to make it easier than ever to install electric vehicle chargepoints." This saving is calculated for the comparative running cost of a petrol or diesel model. The minister is hoping that the new system will lead to more public charging points, encouraging drivers to go electric. There are currently an estimated 80,000 charge points in the UK. with one installed every 29 minutes according to the statement. In the last year alone, 18,000 sockets were installed in workplace carparks. Further incentives have been offered through a scheme that entitles those renting or owning a flat with on-street parking to receive £350 off the cost of installing a home charger. Some motorists seemed less than thrilled by the news, sharing their concerns on social media. Japanese giant unveils its new bargain EV with quirky 'bug eye' headlights One person wrote: "There's four houses on my street it's going to be chocker block, my husband wouldn't be able to pull into the drive." Others were skeptical about how successful the scheme will be, as one said: "It will take decades for electric infrastructure not to mention the streets and homes and flats with no access for electric charging points." Another commented: "Why is our government so fixed on forcing us down the ev manufacturers are scaling back on ev now." As more car manufacturers shift towards electric vehicles, the government is hoping Britain will become a leader in the eco-friendly industry. Not only will this help with meeting climate targets, but they hope it will also create more jobs as part of their Plan for Change initiative. The government has already safeguarded 150,000 jobs in the industry through trade deals with the US, India and the EU. A further 1,000 jobs were created by an investment of £1 billion in a Sunderland-based gigafactory - the term for an electric vehicle manufacturing plant. Responding to the new changes, the Operations Director of Osprey Charging Network Lewis Gardiner, said: "This is a hugely welcome and practical change that will make a real difference on the ground. "Removing the need for planning permission for essential electrical infrastructure like substations across the majority of sites will save months of delays, reduce costs and accelerate the delivery of the rapid charging hubs drivers need. "It's the result of months of collaboration between industry and government and we're proud to have played a key role in making it happen." Switching to an electric vehicle can bring a range of benefits for drivers, particularly as the market continues to expand. This includes financial benefits like the running costs being as low as 2p per mile. As the market expands, EV cars are becoming more affordable, with 2 in 5 used EVs now under £20,000 and 29 brand new models for under £30,000. Their engines have also improved, with most new EVs boasting a range of nearly 300 miles on one charge. The new government rule is helping to make it easier than ever to drive an electric vehicle, with the hopes of encouraging more accessible charging stations across the UK.

Furious Boohoo and Debenhams customers waiting a month for refunds

Boohoo customers are facing unexplained delays for refunds of up to a month as the fashion retailer attempts to navigate financial pressures. In social media posts, dozens of customers of Boohoo brands, which also include Debenhams and PrettyLittleThing, have complained that they sent back goods as long as four weeks ago but their money has not been returned. One Debenhams customer said that she had not been given a £160 refund for a wedding dress, which had been returned to the retailer on May 1. She said: 'I have now escalated this to the Financial Ombudsman as this is utterly and completely awful. 'No other company takes over a month to refund returns, this includes companies who have to ship from abroad.' Another told Boohoo on X: 'Your service is disgusting! I ordered and returned some items within 2 days of getting them. My refund was supposedly actioned on May 20, we're now June 1 and still nothing? And supposedly no complaints procedure? Awful company!' A third said: 'I sent a return back three weeks ago, you've sent me an email to say you've had it over a week and still haven't issued a refund! Won't be using ever again.' On its website, Boohoo said that refunds for returns can take up to 14 days from the date goods were posted back. A company spokesman acknowledged that it was paying refunds more slowly than usual, but did not offer an explanation for the delays. Boohoo said: 'We're aware that some customers haven't received their refunds as quickly as usual and we're working to resolve that.' Customers are facing frustration at the same time as Boohoo is attempting to refinance its debts against a backdrop of falling sales and tough competition from Chinese rivals Shein and Temu. Boohoo, which has announced plans to adopt Debenhams as its corporate brand, is in talks to replace up to £175m of borrowing with new loan commitments that are expected to come at a higher cost. An agreement threatens to increase the pressure on the business, which has been making deep job cuts and in March reported a 16pc drop in sales. Clive Black, a retail analyst at Shore Capital, said customers and investors were likely to take note of the delays to refunds. He said: 'It will ring the alarm bell. Given that they are an online business with a customer base that is young and savvy on social media, it won't take long to get around like a virus. It can be a vicious circle. 'Businesses will use all kinds of tactics ... in terms of delaying movement of cash, but this is a big no-no. It can be very brand-damaging. It's a sign of weakness.' Boohoo declined to respond to Mr Black's comments and did not answer questions about its cash position. It did not comment on whether delays to refunds were linked to its financial challenges or say how long it expected them to continue. A spokesman said Boohoo was 'pleased with the progress we're making'. The company said in March it expected to report adjusted underlying earnings of £40m for the year that ended in February. It repaid £50m of a £97m loan in December using the proceeds of a share placing. Boohoo, which was co-founded by executive chairman Mahmud Kamani, now includes the labels Wallis, Burton, Misspap, Coast, Oasis, Dorothy Perkins and Warehouse, as well as Debenhams.
