Celebrate exam results 'responsibly', police urge

A police force has encouraged Dorset students receiving their exam results to "celebrate their successes responsibly". Across the county young people are due to receive their A-Level results, with GCSE results being released next week, on 21 August. Ch Supt Julie Howe, from Dorset Police, said results days were some of the busiest for the police over the summer period. The force asked people to ensure "celebratory behaviour doesn't descend into anti-social behaviour". People are also being asked to think of others such as neighbours, the elderly and young children. They are also advised to be aware of their limits at parties, plan journeys home in advance, and ensure phones have enough battery to make calls and send messages. "We know that results day is a culmination of several years of hard work and dedication to achieving the best outcomes for the young people of our county and they deserve to celebrate their successes," said Ch Supt Howe. "However, previous years have shown that the A-level and GCSE results days are some of the busiest days of the summer for policing demand. "Therefore, we ask for our young people to please enjoy themselves and their achievements responsibly without the need for police to intervene." Dorset Police previously announced a summer campaign to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour, saying the school holidays were the "busiest time of year". It said officers would use dispersal powers to direct people away from town centres and beachfronts if they acted in an anti-social manner. Pittsburgh-area man charged with driving under the influence in crash that killed 11-year-old girl

A Natrona Heights man is facing charges after police said he hit and killed an 11-year-old girl in Harrison Township last year. The Allegheny County District Attorney's Office shared the criminal complaint with KDKA-TV, showing charges against 65-year-old Jeffrey Glowatski that include driving under the influence and careless driving. On Aug. 20, 2024, 11-year-old Roxanne Bonnoni was hit and killed along Kuntz Street around 7:30 p.m. Her mother previously told KDKA that her daughter was playing outside in front of their home with a friend when she was killed. Paperwork, provided by the district attorney's office, reveals Glowatski was behind the wheel of that SUV, alleging he left a local bar just minutes before the crash. According to paperwork, investigators on scene said Glowatski was slurring his speech and refused to take a field sobriety test, "indicating that he would fail the tests and that he was intoxicated." Glowatski was then taken to a local hospital, where his blood was drawn. "Under the Toxicology Section Report, this report details the results of a blood alcohol analysis performed on the blood drawn from Jeffrey Glowatski. The result for whole blood ethanol is listed as 0.153%," the police paperwork stated. According to police, through their investigation, video surveillance shows Glowatski at two bars before the crash. In the videos, investigators said he is allegedly seen arriving at the American Legion in Brackenridge at 2:55 p.m. and having what appears to be seven 12-ounce beers before leaving and drinking five more 12-ounce beers at Boots Bar. Police said video surveillance shows Glowatski leaving Boots Bar at 7:12 p.m. Six minutes later, video from a residence near the intersection of North Canal Street and Kuntz Road showed the collision where Glowatski hit Bonnoni, who was trying to cross the road. KDKA-TV asked the district attorney's office if any additional charges could be filed against Glowatski in the deadly crash and why it took nearly a year to file charges. A spokesperson said, "Based on the evidence, the case has been appropriately charged." KDKA-TV reached out to the attorney hired by the Bonnoni family. We are waiting to hear back.

Drunk driving suspected in San Joaquin County crash that left 4 dead, CHP says

Drunk driving is suspected in a crash that left four people dead in San Joaquin County earlier this month, the California Highway Patrol said on Wednesday. The crash happened around 4 a.m. on Aug. 4 on Rindge Road south of Rio Blanco Road, which is a private road on Rindge Tract Island in San Joaquin County. Investigators said a 2017 Dodge Charger was heading north of Rindge Road at an unknown speed when the driver, who the CHP identified as 20-year-old Julio Corraltitlan, allowed the vehicle to veer to the right. The Charger left the road and crashed down a rock embankment and ended up in the water of White Slough, the CHP said. The Woodbridge Fire District responded to the crash and immediately located two people inside the vehicle. The CHP said Corraltitlan was found in the driver's seat and another passenger was found in the rear seat area. Those two were rushed to an area hospital where they later died, officers said. A dive team then responded to the area and located two more people, one in the front passenger seat and the other in the rear passenger seat area. Those two were pronounced dead at the scene. The San Joquin County medical examiner identified the other three victims as 45-year-old Esteban Alcantara Gerardo, 21-year-old Luz Maria Amado Basilio and 27-year-old Leocadio Reyes Guillermo. Gerardo and Basilio were from Stockton, whereas Corraltitlan and Guillermo were from Mexico, according to the medical examiner.
