Belinda Carlisle announces release of new studio album
The album, Once Upon A Time In California, will feature 10 songs which aim to capture the 'sounds of her youth'.
Carlisle, 66, is best known for her hit song Heaven Is A Place On Earth and for being the former frontwoman in the pop-rock group The Go-Go's.
Speaking about the new album, the singer said: 'I was born and raised in California at a time when music was an important part of Californian culture.
'I lived and breathed music, it was my great escape – a refuge of fantasy and imagination.
'Every day after school and when it was summer vacation, I would listen and sing along to the music on the radio for the entire day. Always fantasising about being a singer myself, one day.'
The album will be released ahead of her Heavenly Hits UK tour and includes her lead single, a rework of The Hollies hit track The Air That I Breathe.
The singer added: 'This collection of songs is the best representation of what I loved back then that I could think of – listening to it brings back so many memories of a time and a California that doesn't really exist anymore.

'That's not meant to sound like a bad thing, it's just different – there was an innocence and energy back then that was unique and magical. Things I doubt will ever be felt in quite the same way again. Here's to the California of my dreams.'
Prior to her solo career, Carlisle was part of the 70s rock band The Go-Go's, who were best known for their songs We Got The Beat and Our Lips Are Sealed.
The band split in 1985 and a year later Carlisle released her debut solo album, Belinda, followed by her top 10 UK albums Heaven On Earth, Runaway Horses, and Real.
The singer is due to set off on her UK tour in September with performances scheduled in London, Edinburgh and Manchester.
Once Upon A Time In California is due to be released on August 29.

Frustration as Sands Centre and Forum in Cumbria remain closed
Theatre companies have expressed frustration that two major venues are still closed after the discovery of asbestos and crumbling concrete. The auditorium in the Sands Centre, Carlisle, will be shut until next year and The Forum in Barrow is not due to reopen for two director David McNeill said there was "something fundamentally wrong" with the time being taken to deal with the Council, which owns the Sands Centre, said it was a difficult decision to postpone more productions, while the Forum, owned by Westmorland and Furness council, previously said the theatre had to remain closed while work was carried out to the Market Hall next door. 'I was a Disney child star - but blew my fortune in extravagant ways'
Joey Bragg, who rose to fame on the Disney Channel series Liv and Maddie, has spoken out about his financial struggles and admitted to splurging his savings with a VIP lifestyle Disney Channel has long been the launchpad for numerous A-listers, including pop sensations Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus. The network's series and movies have consistently kept them in the limelight, allowing emerging young talents to garner enormous followings. Yet, former Disney Channel luminary Joey Bragg has openly admitted that he frittered away his youthful earnings from acting on an extravagant way of life. Now aged 28, Joey rose to prominence through his role as Joey Rooney on the hit series Liv and Maddie. The show, which delighted audiences from 2013 to 2017, also starred Dove Cameron, Tenzing Norgay Trainor, Kali Rocha, Benjamin King, and Lauren Lindsey Donzis. Joey, who was pursuing comedy before his breakthrough, revealed that he initially declined the chance to star in Liv and Maddie. However, the early windfall came with a downside, as Joey acknowledges it distorted his view of finances. He noted: "It definitely f***ed me up in regards to what I'm used to and what I enjoy out of life, I get got a lot easily because I'm so used to having the extra money." Despite this financial rollercoaster, Joey's career has continued to thrive, with roles in several TV series, including a lead role in the American sitcom Call Your Mother, and a recent appearance in the comedy-drama film Sid Is Dead, alongside stars like Mary Stuart Masterson and Carla Gallo.
