PJ school's gala fundraiser to celebrate past, empower future
SMK Assunta's board of governors is organising the school's first-ever Governors' Ball, a black-tie fundraising gala set for Aug 10 at Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
The event aims to reconnect the wider Assunta community, including alumni, teachers, parents and long-time supporters for an evening of celebration and philanthropy.
'This event is not just about raising funds, it is really about celebrating the values that have defined Assunta for generations: integrity, service and unity,' said board chairman Datuk Kathleen Chew.
'We invite all who have been part of the Assunta story, to come together for a night to remember and to give back to the school that gave so much to us,' she said.
All proceeds from the evening will go to the board's account and will be used to support structural repairs, school improvement works and long-term development projects.
The fundraising dinner at 7pm will begin with cocktails at 6pm.
Only full tables will be sold for the dinner, with donation tiers set at RM3,500 (bronze), RM5,000 (silver), RM8,000 (gold) and RM10,000 (platinum).
There are 80 tables available for the gala dinner.
In addition to table contributions, the board welcomes cash sponsorships and lucky draw prizes.

Malaysia looks to Thailand, Japan for year-round fruit production
KLANG: The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) is turning to Thailand and Japan as models for research to enable year-round production of seasonal fruits in Malaysia. Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu highlighted ongoing efforts by the Department of Agriculture (DOA) and the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) to develop new seed varieties. 'We are carrying out R\&D, especially by DOA and MARDI, to produce new seeds and so on. The MARDI durian, for example, was produced recently in Kuala Kangsar. Delicious. High quality,' he said during the launch of the National Campaign to Eat More Local Fruits and Vegetables. The event also marked the closing of FAMA Fest 2025 in Selangor. Mohamad stressed the government's commitment to promoting local fruits, including a mandate for official functions to serve only Malaysian-grown produce. 'During my visit to Thailand as the Minister of Defence, I was served food based on local fruits and vegetables throughout my time there. The same goes for Japan, almost 100 per cent local,' he added. Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) chairman Aminuddin Zulkipli reported strong results from FAMA Fest, with sales exceeding RM800,000 from 50 entrepreneurs and over 40,000 visitors. 12 Madani recreational parks in Ipoh set for July completion
IPOH: The construction of 12 Madani Recreational Parks (TRM) in Ipoh, backed by an allocation of RM5.4 million, is on track for completion by the end of July. Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming confirmed the progress, highlighting the government's dedication to improving public recreational facilities. Each park received RM450,000 in funding, with the Canning Madani Recreational Park already operational. Nga emphasised the ministry's broader vision of establishing 1,000 parks nationwide, aligning with the Madani economic framework's goals of sustainability and community well-being. 'The Madani government is committed to fostering a sustainable, competitive, and prosperous nation. Quality public spaces are vital for the people's welfare,' he said during the launch of the Canning TRM and a CSR initiative by Ipoh City Council (MBI) and Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd (KLK). A memorandum of understanding between MBI and KLK formalised a two-year partnership to maintain seven TRMs, including Woodland Park 1 and 2 Tambun, Bandar Baru Putra, and First Garden. KLK will conduct biweekly upkeep, such as fertilising and grass cutting. Nga urged more corporations to support similar initiatives, reinforcing Ipoh's vision for a greener, cleaner city. – Bernama
