Should the Seahawks sign free-agent guard Shaq Mason?
The Seattle Seahawks finally agreed to terms with free-agent cornerback Shaquill Griffin on Wednesday. Griffin had long been rumored to reunite with the Seahawks this offseason. General manager John Schneider officially closed that deal.
By doing so, Schneider proved he's open to considering veteran upgrades to the roster before training camp opens. One potentially intriguing option is free-agent guard Shaq Mason. Brandon Thorn, creator of Trench Warfare and offensive line play enthusiast, recently highlighted how effective Mason still is at this point in his career.
Mason played 931 snaps at right guard for the Houston Texans last season. The experienced blocker earned a stellar pass-blocking grade of 65.2 from Pro Football Focus. Mason would have easily been Seattle's best performing interior offensive lineman last season.
The real question here is how much faith Schneider possesses in the ongoing positional battle at right guard. Anthony Bradford and Christian Haynes are competing for that spot for a second consecutive offseason. Neither player maximized that opportunity last season. The Seahawks are banking on another year of experience, paired with new position coach John Benton, to better develop Bradford and Haynes.
If Schneider and Mike Macdonald run out of patience with Bradford and Haynes, they should strongly consider adding Mason via a one-year deal. The Seahawks are in a competitive window, having added veterans like Griffin, Cooper Kupp, DeMarcus Lawrence, and Sam Darnold via free agency. Mason would be an upgrade at right guard, but the Seahawks appear invested in Haynes and Bradford (for now).

Happy Birthday to Mike Macdonald!
We at Seahawks Wire wanted to acknowledge and wish Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald a Happy Birthday! On this day 38 years ago, Macdonald entered this world. Now, he is entering his second season as head coach for the Seahawks. It is almost impossible for the 12th Man to feel anything but optimism for the overall direction of the Seahawks with Macdonald at the helm. In his first year, he showed why Seattle waited until the Baltimore Ravens were eliminated from the playoffs to be able to hire him as their ninth head coach in franchise history. Macdonald was hired to finally fix the lackluster Seahawks defense, and by the second half of his rookie campaign, they were among the best in the league. Seattle finished 10-7, their first double-digit win season since 2020, and barely missed out on winning the NFC West due to the 5th tiebreaker. Now, Macdonald (along with general manager John Schneider) has helped to remake the Seahawks in his image. OHSAA state tennis tournaments to return to Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason
On Thursday, June 26, the Ohio High School Athletic Association announced that next Ohio state tennis tournaments will be returning to the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason for the first time since 2022. The deal is for the next three years. Advertisement The tournaments were hosted at the Lindner Center from 2014 to 2022, but moved to the College of Wooster for the past two seasons while the Lindner Center was under renovation. The facility annually hosts the Cincinnati Open. 'We're proud to welcome back the OHSAA state tennis tournaments to the Lindner Family Tennis Center,' said Bob Moran, President of Beemok Sports and Entertainment. 'After a major transformation, our campus will be a year-round public facility where Ohio's best high school players will compete on the same courts as the world's best. It is an opportunity that will inspire them throughout their season and serve as a great reward for their hard work.' About 12,000 new seats have been added to Center Court at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason. The new seats are part of of a $260 million to enhance the facility over the next two years. The center hosts the Cincinnati Open. The renovations cost $260 million and increased the total number of outdoor courts at the facility to 31. It also added a six-court indoor facility, pickleball and padel courts, new locker room facilities and a clubhouse that includes a restaurant and function room space.
