Shaq demands NBA fans include Steph in GOAT conversation
Since winning his fourth NBA championship in 2022, Steph Curry's status among basketball's all-time greats has been a hot topic.
After the Warriors' comeback victory over the New York Knicks on Tuesday at Madison Square Garden, TNT studio analyst and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal made a bold proclamation about Curry's greatness.
'As the supreme leader of the big man alliance, I demand you fans to start putting Steph Curry in that greatest of all time conversation,' O'Neal declared during the TNT broadcast. 'Just start putting him in the conversation. There's [Michael Jordan], there's Kobe [Bryant], there's LeBron [James]. Start putting Steph in that conversation. I demand it.'
That's high praise coming from someone whom many rank as another of the NBA's top 10 all-time players, and competed alongside and against many other names in that echelon.
'I played against Mike, played with Kobe, played against and with LeBron. They're all great,' O'Neal continued. 'But at some point, we're going to have to put Steph Curry in that category. I'm not saying he is [the GOAT], but let's just have the conversation. I like all the internet talk and the barbershop talk, but I ain't never seen nothing like that before, and nobody has. And how many [rings] he got? One, two, three, four, against LeBron. I demand that people start putting my guy in that conversation, period.'
Needless to say, O'Neal probably isn't someone whose demands you want to refuse.
Tuesday wasn't the greatest performance of Curry's career, but the Warriors star did put on a show in the second half at one of basketball's most renowned venues. He scored 14 of his 28 points during Golden State's big third-quarter charge, before adding a pair of clutch 3-pointers down the stretch to seal the win.
And of course, the classic showman wished the home crowd sweet dreams just for good measure.
It's hard not to call that greatness.

Nets' Egor Demin projected outside top-26 PGs for 2025-26 NBA season
HoopsHype does not rank Nets PG Egor Demin among the projected top-26 PGs for the 2025-26 NBA season. I'm projecting for Demin to start at PG for Brooklyn next season so this could be an indication of some expected struggles for Demin at the next The Brooklyn Nets had one of the more interesting offseasons in the NBA as they selected an NBA-record five players in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft. One of the players that Brooklyn drafted, guard Egor Demin, has a good chance of being the starting point guard for the 2025-26 season, but that doesn't seem to inspire confidence in anyone on the outside looking in. In HoopsHype's ranking of the top-26 point guards for the 2025-26 season, they did not have Demin on the list, implying that the outlet doesn't believe that Demin will have a particularly effective season. To be fair, HoopsHype is projecting who the best 26 point guards will be next season and there is the possibility that the outlet doesn't consider Demin to be a point guard. Either way, Demin did not appear on the list, but that doesn't mean that he cannot have a successful rookie season even if he doesn't find a way to make it on the list by the end of the season. Demin, 19, was the eighth overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and with D'Angelo Russell leaving in free-agency to join the Dallas Mavericks, the starting point guard spot is up for grabs this offseason. In terms of players who saw minutes at the point guard position last season for the Nets, Demin will be competing with the likes of Keon Johnson and Tyrese Martin for the right to start at that spot. Assuming that shooting guard Cam Thomas re-signs with Brooklyn before the beginning of the season, that essentially pits three players to compete for one spot. Demin is the most likely of the three to start given how much the team invested in him in the Draft along with the fact that the Nets will be trying to develop Demin along with fellow rookies in Nolan Traore and Ben Saraf. With training camp about two months away from starting, there is still plenty of time for Demin to work on his flaws enough to compete with Johnson and Martin and potentially prove the doubters wrong at the same time.

"One thing that troubled James about the Bulls pitch" - LeBron couldn't commit to Chicago because D-Rose never recruited him
"One thing that troubled James about the Bulls pitch" - LeBron couldn't commit to Chicago because D-Rose never recruited him originally appeared on Basketball Network. The Chicago Bulls were one of the teams hoping to swoop for LeBron James back in the summer of 2010. According to revered NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Bulls believed they had an impressive presentation to persuade Bron. While that might be the case, Woj noted that LeBron was still not buying into what the Bulls were presenting because Derrick Rose had shown no interest in teaming up with LBJ. As per Wojnarowski, the Bulls knew that it would be a big plus if D-Rose would personally recruit James. However, they couldn't resolve the issue, and Derrick never bothered to reach out to LeBron either. "For everything the Bulls tried to sell – from owner Jerry Reinsdorf to GM Gar Forman to coach Tom Thibodeau – there had been one thing that troubled James about the Bulls pitch: Derrick Rose(notes) never called and tried to recruit him," Wojnarowski revealed. "Chicago officials never directly requested Rose to reach out with a call, and the young point guard felt James could've always reached out to him had he wanted to discuss the possibility of playing together," he continued. "James needed to be courted, needed to be wooed and apparently it surprised him there was a star who wasn't falling over himself to do that," he added. D-Rose wants to beat super teams, not join them In the end, the Bulls failed to make huge progress in courting James. As it turns out, what LeBron reportedly expected at the time was never going to happen. According to former Bulls forward Taj Gibson, prime Rose was never fond of joining forces with a fellow superstar. Let alone forming powerhouse squads or the so-called "super teams." Gibson revealed that D-Rose's goal was to beat the best and win the championship, not join the best and win it all. "'Yo, he's coming through. This guy wants to come. That guy wants to come.' If you know 'Pooh,' like—he don't... he not into all that," Taj once stated. "You know, he's one of those guys that's really into going against the odds. And that was kind of the makeup of our team. We was on that. That was our whole mentality: We don't rock with nobody that's on that. We want to bring it to them," Gibson continued. LeBron and Derrick met in the ECF Eventually, James finally came up with a conclusion, which he later named "The Decision." He opted to take his talents to South Beach and assembled a Big 3 alongside Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. That same season, the Heat and the Bulls led the league. Both squads were favorites to win the title. The Heat were viewed as championship contenders because of their intimidating lineup. On the other hand, many also believed that D-Rose and the Bulls could finally bring the championship back to Chicago after 13 long years. Inevitably, the Heat and the Bulls faced each other in the Eastern Conference Finals. Derrick and LeBron understood the magnitude of the series. They knew that playing against each other was the toughest challenge they would encounter that postseason. James and the Heat prevailed and closed the series in five games. Despite losing, Pooh never considered the "what if" of having King James as a teammate and never asked for someone to join him in story was originally reported by Basketball Network on Aug 4, 2025, where it first appeared.

McMenamin: LeBron James is still monitoring the Lakers' moves
Ever since LeBron James opted into the final season of his contract in late June, there has been lots of speculation about his immediate future with the Los Angeles Lakers. That speculation stemmed from a statement his agent, Rich Paul, gave to ESPN that stated, in part, that the two "want to evaluate what's best" for the superstar moving forward. James is 40 years of age and is headed toward his record 23rd season in the NBA. It does appear he will start the new season as a member of the Lakers, but what happens afterward with him is anyone's guess, especially now that the franchise revolves around Luka Doncic, who just agreed to a three-year contract extension. ESPN's Dave McMenamin reported that James is supportive of Doncic being with the team, but that the four-time MVP is still looking at what the team will do to build a championship-caliber roster (at 10:42). "I'm told that the statement that Rich Paul gave to Shams Charania back in June when LeBron opted in still stands," McMenamin said. "LeBron and his representatives will be monitoring the Lakers' moves that they make, because they recognize that there's only a very limited amount of time left in his career and he wants to be competing for championships, whatever time that is." It has been rumored that James and his camp have been unhappy that the Lakers are now catering to Doncic and not James. However, Charania also reported that James is supportive of this shift. With Doncic now under contract for at least the next three years, Los Angeles can fully shift its focus to building a championship team around both superstars. Once James leaves, there's no telling how long it will take the team to find another star to put alongside Doncic, and therefore, now is the time for it to go for its 18th NBA championship, especially since Doncic made it clear that he wants to get a ring now.
