Govt Releases 417-Crore Grant To 12 DU Colleges

New Delhi: Minister Ashish Sood said on Wednesday that Delhi govt released a grant-in-aid of Rs 417 crore to 12 state-funded Delhi University colleges. "The previous govt did not release grants to DU, where students from middle-class families study.

But we released the money on April 1," Sood claimed.
The 12 DU institutions fully funded by Delhi govt are Acharya Narendra Dev College, Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Bhagini Nivedita College, Bhaskar Acharya College, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Keshav Mahavidyalaya, Maharaja Agrasen College, Maharishi Valmiki College, Shaheed Rajguru College and Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies.
With the BJP-led govt completing 100 days in office, Sood listed the achievements of the departments under him. At a press conference, Sood, whose portfolios include education, home, power and urban development, said govt released grants of Rs 417 crore to the 12 colleges. Under the previous govt, these colleges had faced a funds crisis after allegations of financial mismanagement in the institutions run on govt funds.
The minister also said govt repaired 2,500 flats for the EWS (economically weaker section) category and allocated a budget of Rs 700 crore to the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board. He asserted, "Every decision of our govt is aimed at the betterment of the poor, labourers and the common man. These 100 days prove that with service, commitment and dedication, transformation is possible."
Sood stated that one of the first actions taken after BJP assumed power in the city was to revive 2,500 houses built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana that were previously withheld from allocation because the former govt objected to the absence of 'chief minister' in the scheme's nomenclature.

Speaking about slum rehabilitation, Sood said, "I stated earlier and continue to assert, no slum will be demolished in Delhi.
For the first time, we have allocated Rs 700 crore in the DUSIB budget specifically for the upliftment of slum dwellers."
He said the state govt would establish 75 CM Shri Schools equipped with smart classrooms, AI-based learning, robotics and data science courses. A special budget of Rs 100 crore has been allocated for this.
Students will benefit from advanced features like AR/VR labs, robotics and data science. These state-of-the-art schools aim to surpass private institutions, with a focus on AI-based learning outcomes.
The minister further announced that Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Language Labs would be set up in 100 schools, as approved by the state cabinet, to teach students foreign languages like English, French and German. Additionally, 250 govt schools would get digital libraries.
Under the CM Digital Education Scheme, 1,200 students have already received laptops.
Sood said that 215 eligible inhabitants of the Madrasi Camp slum cluster have been resettled by Delhi govt. The slum settlement was removed on Sunday under an anti-encroachment drive ordered by Delhi High Court. The slum encroached on the Barapullah drain, leading to flooding in some south Delhi areas during the monsoon, according to govt officials.
