Uttar Pradesh: Two dead, one injured after roof collapse at under construction house in Kannauj
According to Circle Officer (CO) Sadar Kannauj, Abhishek Pratap, the house was undergoing renovation when the incident occurred on Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Shyamjeet and Gyanendra. A third labourer, Tillu, sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
'On July 13 in the evening, we received information that a house in the Kotwali Police Station area was being renovated. The roof of the under-construction house collapsed. Two labourers identified as Shyamjeet and Gyanendra died in the incident, and one injured labourer, identified as Tillu, was taken to the hospital,' CO Pratap said in a video statement.
'Legal proceedings in the matter are underway,' he added.
In another incident, the Uttar Pradesh Police on Sunday arrested a man in Varanasi for allegedly posing as an Army officer and duping over 25 women by creating fake matrimonial profiles.
The accused defrauded these women of Rs 40 lakh and had been cheating them for the past six years, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Saravanan Thangamani.
The accused, Dayali Uppal, is a resident of the NTPC Police Station, District Pedapalli, Telangana.'Today in Thana, Chitaipur Commissionerate Varanasi, we arrested one suspected person named Dayali Upaliya, who is a resident of NTPC police station, District Pedapalli, Telangana. We found out that he had cheated almost 25 plus women by creating fake matrimonial profiles and has defrauded these women to the tune of Rs 40 lakhs so far, and he has been doing it for the last six years,' Thangamani told ANI.
'We recovered army uniforms from him. He also has in his custody fake name plates in the names of Major Amit and Major Joseph. In addition to this, we also obtained a few fake ID cards from central police organisations, including the National Investigation Agency, the Territorial Army, and the Jammu & Kashmir Police,' he further said.
The police also recovered printing papers that are used for creating these fake ID cards. (ANI)

Prosecution could not prove that it was in (Pragya Thakur's) possession immediately before the blast," said the court, as per news agency ANI. Further pointing towards apparent holes in the probe, the court said, 'No sketch of the spot was done by the investigation officer while doing the panchnama. No fingerprint, dump data or anything else was collected for the spot. The samples were contaminated, so the reports can't be conclusive and are not reliable." 'There is no evidence of storing or assembling the explosives in Shrikant Prasad Purohit's residence,' the court said, as per ANI, also acquitting Lt Colonel Purohit. It added that anti-terror law UAPA could not be invoked in this case as 'sanction was not taken as per rules'. "Both the sanction orders of the UAPA in the case are defective," said the court. The court came to the conclusion that the injured people were not 101 but 95 only, and there was manipulation in some medical certificates too. The case was transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2011 from the Maharashtra ATS. All of the accused were currently out on bail.

All seven accused, including former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur and Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Purohit, facing trial for the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast, were Thursday acquitted by a special court in Mumbai. Pragya Singh Thakur and Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Purohit, Major (retired) Ramesh Upadhyay, Ajay Rahirkar, Sameer Kulkarni, Sudhakar Chaturvedi, and Sudhakar Dhardwivedi were cleared of all charges, including criminal conspiracy and murder under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections of the anti-terror law, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Special Judge A K Lahoti, who pronounced all seven not guilty, noted the prosecution proved the blast but failed to establish that a bomb was fitted in the motorcycle. 'Conspiracy and meetings also have not been proved. Interception of calls not authorised. Both sanction orders to invoke are defective, UAPA cannot be invoked, ' the court said. The court said that the prosecution failed to provide cogent and reliable evidence, and also failed to establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. There might be strong suspicion against the accused, but it is not enough to punish them, said the court. The court also ordered compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the families of the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast victims, and Rs 50,000 to the injured victims to be given by the government. The detailed order of the court is yet to be made available. On September 29, 2008, a bomb went off at a chowk in Malegaon, a town known for its power loom industry, about 100 km northeast of Nashik in Maharashtra. The blast, which took place in an area with a sizeable Muslim population, killed six people and injured 100 during Ramzan, the holy month of fasting in Islam.

The woman in the video, Sajnur Parveen, accused the Delhi Police of harassment, abuse, and extortion. 'Four men in plain clothes came asking for my Aadhaar and my husband's whereabouts. I was called Bangladeshi, slapped, kicked in the stomach, and asked to chant 'Jai Shri Ram.' They demanded Rs 25,000, and the next day, we were picked up, tortured, and forced to sign documents,' she said.
