Google Cloud is down — latest on Google outage impacting 50+ services
2025-06-12T20:15:59.586Z
Earlier today, AWS, another provided like Cloudflare, saw a big spike of outage reports on Down Detector.
My understanding is that many companies like Discord, which is showing issues, use multiple providers as a sort of redundancy, which may have been behind the spike for AWS.
An AWS spokesperson reached out to Tom's Guide saying that Down Detector does not accurately reflect AWS issues.
'Currently there are no broad service issues with AWS. Our services are operating normally. The only resource on the internet that provides accurate data on the availability of our services is the AWS Health Dashboard," the AWS spokesperson said.

Google response
A Google spokesperson responded to our inquiries, but did not provide any information on what might have caused problems today. Instead they pointed back toward the status page.
'We are currently investigating a service disruption to some Google Cloud services. Please view our public status dashboard for the latest updates," a Google Cloud spokesperson told us.

Current status
According to the Google Cloud status page the company's engineers have "identified the root cause and applied appropriate mitigations."
It adds that some people might still experiences some problems on an individual level. However, there is no ETA for full recovery.
As for Nest, we're still waiting on an update. The last one was at 11:37 a.m. Pacific and the site claims another would come 60 minutes later.

Back up, mostly
It looks Google may have solved whatever was plaguing its services.
The Google Cloud status page now says that "All locations except us-central1 have fully recovered. us-central1 is mostly recovered."
The update does say that there is no ETA for full recovery of the central region which is listed as Iowa.
Over on the Google Workspace status page, it now says that every product except Google Meet has been recovered. No word on when Meet will come back.

Spotify
With multiple services down, we're also tracking a Spotify outage that is currently ongoing.

Spike Downturn?
Over on Down Detector, every thing seems to be slowing down as the spikes are starting to decrease and crawl back down the mountain.
Based on what've seen in some of the status pages, some places might be getting back online but it's clear that problems still abound.
A few colleagues have reported that Google Drive won't let them upload or download documents or images right now.
We're not out of the woods yet but some people might have more access than they did previously.

More Google Cloud sections down, no ETA on fix
The Google cloud status page just got redder as more parts of the service are having problems.
These include Memorystore, Vertex AI Search, Cloud Data Fusion, Cloud Shell, Cloud Workstations, Google Cloud Console and Google Cloud Bigtable.
A report on the page says that engineers are "continuing to mitigate the issue."
It says that there is recovery in some places but there is no ETA on a "full mitigation at this point."

Cloudflare another platform provider that undergird many sites and services on the internet is also showing spikes.

Users claim no access
Looking through comments on Down Detector, it appears that for many people reporting issues the whole system is down for them.
"On multiple Google apps like Gboard traduction/voice to speech it says 'non internet,'" one comment reads.
Tom's Guide uses some Google services and as of this writing we aren't seeing anything affecting our access to various Google accounts.
However, for those are affected, it sounds like all access has been blocked.

Google status pages show no problems
We checked several status pages for Google including the Search, Nest, Cloud and main Google sites.
As of this writing, none are showing any issues with green status across the board.
We'll monitor these pages to see if any changes occur and if they provide any information about what could be causing potential outages.

Nvidia, Amazon, Google Lead Tech Selloff After Israel Strikes Iran
June 13 - Tech stocks tracked broader markets lower as Middle East tensions rose. The iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF slipped about 1%, while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell about 2%. Among large-cap names, Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL) and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) each dropped about 1%, and Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) slid about 1%. Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) was little changed, and Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) also saw minimal movement. Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) showed modest gains but remained within a narrow range. Palantir (NASDAQ:PLTR) bucked the trend, climbing about 1%, possibly on its ties with defense contracts. (NASDAQ:MNDY) declined about 3%, reflecting sensitivity to geopolitical uncertainty. Semiconductor stocks broadly ceded ground: Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM) fell about 2%, Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU) slipped about 1%, Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM) lost about 1%, and Marvell Technology (MRVL) slid about 2%. IBM (NYSE:IBM) and Kyndryl Holdings (NYSE:KD) each edged down about 1%. The S&P 500, Nasdaq Composite, and Dow all retreated roughly 1% as investors weighed the impact of Israel's strikes on Iran. The effects of the attack have cascaded across global markets, with a strong risk-off move for several asset classes, said Deutsche Bank's Henry Allen. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, This operation will continue for as many days as it takes to remove this threat, underscoring uncertainty. Spotify is adding the ability to remotely download playlists to secondary devices
Spotify is rolling out a new feature that lets Premium subscribers remotely download playlists to additional devices. For instance, a user could initiate a download on an iPhone for an iPad or for a backup phone ahead of a trip. That's all fine and good, and useful in limited circumstances. The big news here, however, is that this functionality also works with smartwatches, with integration for Wear OS devices and Apple Watch models. Nothing ruins a good walk or run like forgetting to download a playlist, so this lets people square that away whenever they think of it, even when the secondary device is out of reach. Spotify is also introducing a new "Manage Downloads" button to assist with the aforementioned feature. This button accompanies playlists and provides a list of devices in which a particular batch of songs has been downloaded. That way folks can be sure they aren't reaching Spotify's five-device limit the company places on downloads. This stuff is rolling out right now for users across the globe. It could take a few weeks to reach everyone. A version of this tool has previously been available for Apple Watch users, but this is the first time something like this will be available to those in the Wear OS ecosystem. Spotify has been busy lately. The platform recently opened up an audiobook shop for iOS users and unveiled a dedicated Following feed for podcasts .

Tillsonburg the Next Stop for Tourism Oxford
By Jeff Helsdon LJI Reporter Your Next Stop could be Tillsonburg with a new Tourism Oxford promotion. Meredith Maywood, Product Development & Marketing Tourism Specialist for Tourism Oxford, provided insight into a new initiative called ' Your Next Stop' during an update to council at the May 30 meeting. Your Next Step is a program designed to promote tourism stops that are located in close proximity to each other. Maywood said the concept is to reduce drive time and have more time for fun. 'People are spending less time on the road, and they're visiting more activities and places within the destination,' she said, adding she is working on adding Tillsonburg to the program the following week. Maywood also provided insight into some of the other work that Tourism Oxford is involved in. The agency is currently working with 190 tourism-related businesses in the county. These businesses employ a total of 3,415 people in the county. In 2023, there were 670,000 visitor trips from Canada and the United States to Oxford County, equivalent to 1.4 million nights. The total number of nights refers to the number of nights spent by anyone who visited Oxford and stayed overnight for either business or personal purposes. Tourism Oxford is tracking tourism trends within the industry. 'We're always wanting to know what's happening with visitors, what they're interested in, so we can then better support the businesses to understand what consumers are looking for,' she said. One emerging trend is that travelers want to ensure their visit has a positive impact on the community they visit. For example, she said in parts of Europe, tourists pick up waste on some waterways. Another thing being observed is an interest in culture, Maywood said, not just taking photos, but people are also 'looking to immerse themselves in activities as well.' Popular tourism trends include cycling, experiential tourism, and a desire to hear local stories. Tourism Oxford is also developing an ambassador program to promote the area to friends and relatives visiting residents. 'That's to get our residents out to discover what's in their backyard,' she said. Council accepted the presentation as information. Error! Sorry, there was an error processing your request.
