Al-Ittihad Football Club announced on Friday evening that it will lodge an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the Libyan Football Federation's (LFF) decision to annul the result of their match against Al-Ahly Tripoli. In a statement published on its official Facebook page, the club described the ruling as 'unjust'.
The move follows the LFF's decision to cancel the result of the capital derby between Al-Ahly Tripoli and Al-Ittihad, held during the first round of the Libyan Premier League championship play-offs. The match had not been completed.
In a video statement shared via the Federation's official Facebook page, the LFF's Vice President, Fawzi Ajouda, announced a three-match suspension for Al-Ahly Tripoli player Hamdou Elhouni, due to an off-the-ball assault on an opposing player. Al-Ittihad's Sobhi Al-Mabrouk was also handed a three-match ban, based on the match commissioner's report.
As of Friday evening, Al-Ahly Tripoli's management had not issued any official comment on the Federation's decisions. The views expressed in Op-Ed pieces are those of the author and do not purport to reflect the opinions or views of Libyan Express.

Osama Elsharimi signs with Club Africain until 2027

BY Libyan Express Jul 31, 2025 - 04:59 Elsharimi rejects Egyptian interest, chooses Club Africain move Tunisian top-flight side Club Africain has announced the signing of Libyan midfielder Osama Elsharimi, who joins from Al-Swehli SC on a contract that runs until 30 June 2027. The 24-year-old, considered one of the promising talents in Libyan football, becomes the third Libyan player currently in the Club Africain squad, alongside Ali Youssef and Fahd Al-Masmari. The club published a promotional photo featuring the trio on its official Facebook page with the caption: 'From the proud land of Libya to the capital Tunis – and specifically to Hedi Ennaifer Stadium, the historic home of popular football. Pictured: Fahd, Elsharimi and Ali.' In its welcome message, the club wrote: 'Welcome, Osama Elsharimi, to the People's Team – Club Africain. The player has signed a contract until 30 June 2027.' Elsharimi's transfer comes after weeks of speculation linking him with Zamalek SC of Egypt, with several media reports suggesting that the Cairo-based club had expressed strong interest in securing his services. However, the player ultimately opted for a move to Tunisia, choosing Club Africain as the next step in his professional career. The move is being seen by observers as a vote of confidence in the quality of Libyan footballers, as more North African clubs turn their attention to players emerging from the Libyan Premier League. Elsharimi had impressed with his performances at Al-Swehli, earning praise for his composure, vision, and work rate in midfield. For many Libyan fans, the signing also reflects a growing trend of young local talents seeking professional development in neighbouring leagues, amid ongoing challenges facing domestic football at home. With three Libyans now featuring in Club Africain's senior team, the move may also offer valuable cohesion and support for Elsharimi as he adapts to the Tunisian league. The 13-time Tunisian champions are known for their passionate fan base and historic status in North African football, making this a high-profile platform for the Libyan midfielder to prove himself on a regional stage.
