Kelantan MMEA detains Vietnamese boat for trespassing waters
KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained a fishing vessel and arrested three foreign fishermen from Vietnam on suspicion of trespassing into the country's waters at a position about 94 nautical miles from the Tok Bali estuary on Sunday.
Its director Maritime Captain Erwan Shah Soahdi said the arrest was made by a Malaysian Maritime enforcement vessel that was conducting patrols at the Malaysia-Vietnam border under Op Damai, Op Naga Barat and Op Tiris at 4.49pm.
'All the foreigners, suspected to be aged between 37 and 41, initially did not cooperate and tried to flee to the country's territorial waters when the Malaysian Maritime enforcers gave instructions to stop the vessel.
'Further inspection of the vessel found about 5,000 kilograms of fish, navigation and communication equipment as well as a supply of 600 litres of diesel with an estimated value of nearly RM1 million,' he said in a statement today.
He said the process of bringing back the vessel took 23 hours before arriving at the MMEA jetty at about 3.55pm the next day, before being handed over to the investigating officer.
The case will be investigated under Section 15 (1)(a) of the Fisheries Act 1985, Section 16(3) of the Fisheries Act 1985 and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

In a related development, the Kelantan Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) also recorded positive achievements from January to May this year, with the arrest of 12,298 individuals on various drug-related crimes. 'During that period, the NCID also seized drugs worth RM10.31 million and confiscated RM1.32 million worth of drug traffickers' assets,' he said.

Fama employee fined RM10,000 for offensive post on X
MELAKA:A staff member of the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) was fined RM10,000 by the Sessions Court here Wednesday (June 11) after pleading guilty to making an offensive post on the social media site X, two years ago. Judge Haderiah Siri meted out the fine, in default six months in jail, on Adi Ariff Ahmad, 51. The man was charged with improper use of network facilities by making and initiating the transmission of an offensive post, via the X account of "Senatorrr Antonio Samad" with intent to annoy others at 11.33am on Oct 11, 2023. The post was seen at 5pm on Oct 11, 2023, at the address JB 3831, Jalan Kelubi Damai 1, Taman Kelubi Damai, Jasin. The charge was framed under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which is punishable under Section 233(3) of the same act and provides a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or a maximum imprisonment of one year or both and may also be fined a further RM1,000 for each day the offence continues after conviction. In mitigation, Adi Ariff, unrepresented, said he was supporting four school-going children and a mother, who is not well.
