Minister promises to develop infrastructure in tribal villages
Speaking at a press conference organised on the occasion, the Minister said that steps are being taken to ensure basic infrastructure in all schools by June when schools reopen. With special initiative from Minister Nara Lokesh, Rs 156 crore has been sanctioned, and work has already begun. 'Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has directed the provision of drinking water to people in over 4,000 tribal villages, and drinking water has already been provided to the majority of these villages,' she said. The minister noted that ICDS (Integrated Child Development Services) programmes are being integrated with activities in tribal areas. Steps have been taken to provide nutritious food to children in tribal regions. Although doctors have been appointed in tribal areas, they often do not reside there. To address this, appointments will be made to ensure doctors stay in these areas, providing better healthcare to tribals.
The minister stated that skill development courses will be offered to tribal youth to create employment opportunities. Birth waiting halls have been set up for pregnant women, and post-delivery, mothers and newborns are safely transported home via the Mother-Child Express vehicle.
Over 2,000 jobs are available for tribals in the Mega DSC, which will improve the lives of many tribal youth. The state has nine ITDAs, but Vijayawada and Nellore ITDAs cannot officially represent tribal areas due to the absence of tribal populations.

Guntur GGH to offer free liver transplants
GUNTUR: Guntur Government General Hospital (GGH) is set to become the first government hospital in Andhra Pradesh to offer free liver transplantation surgeries to economically disadvantaged patients. The surgeries are expected to begin by October, while free knee replacement procedures will resume by mid-August after a prolonged interval. This initiative marks a significant milestone for public healthcare in the state. With the recent issuance of the Jeevandan AP Deceased Donor Certificate, GGH is now authorized to perform organ transplants using organs from deceased donors. Patients registered for liver transplants will be treated based on a waiting list to ensure transparency and fairness. Speaking to TNIE, GGH Superintendent Dr. SSV Ramana confirmed that the groundwork is nearly complete. 'Both knee and liver transplant surgeries will commence shortly, restoring access to life-saving treatment for patients unable to afford private care,' he said. To support this initiative, the hospital has set up two dedicated operation theaters at a cost of Rs.10 lakh and appointed three transplant coordinators. A team of specialists in general medicine, hepatology, anesthesia, and surgery has undergone intensive training under the guidance of Dr. Rajnikanth, a senior liver transplant expert from Chennai. GGH performs 22 kidney transplants Awareness campaigns have also been launched to promote organ donation, although only deceased donor transplants are currently permitted. GGH has a track record of performing complex surgeries, including a successful heart transplant in 2016, the first of its kind in a state-run facility. Since then, the hospital has performed 22 kidney transplants and several knee replacements. However, all transplant services were suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic and have not resumed until now. The liver transplant program, which was long in the pipeline, was delayed due to administrative and logistical hurdles. With approvals and infrastructure now in place, officials say the hospital is finally ready to offer this critical service to the underprivileged.

Zydus Lifesciences gets USDFA approval for Prucalopride tablets
Zydus Lifesciences has received final approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for Prucalopride tablets, 1 mg and 2 mg. The said drug is equivalent to listed drug Motegrity tablets, 1 mg and 2 mg. Prucalopride is prescribed for chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC), a condition where the cause of constipation is unknown. It helps stimulate peristalsis, natural muscle contractions in the colon, to promote more regular bowel movements. The said tablets will be produced at the companys (SEZ), Ahmedabad. Prucalopride tablets had annual sales of $186.8 million in the United States (IQVIA MAT June 2025). As on 31st July 2025, the group has 422 approvals and has so far filed 483 ANDA since the commencement of the filing process in FY 2003-04. Zydus Lifesciences is a discovery-driven, global life sciences company that discovers, develops, manufactures, and markets a broad range of healthcare therapies. The companys consolidated net profit shed 1% to Rs 1,170.90 crore on a 17.21% rise in revenue from operations to Rs 6,290.2 crore in Q4 FY25 over Q4 FY24. Odisha will get 4 new medical colleges: CM
Koraput: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday inaugurated a new building of Shaheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput, expanding its capacity by 650 beds. Majhi also announced that his government will develop a six-lane highway, the Jeypore-Berhampur-Bhubaneswar 'economic corridor'. He said the new building at the hospital has been built at a cost of Rs 280 crore. 'The State government has been making available all facilities at the medical college, so that the people of Koraput and adjoining areas do not have to travel to distant cities for healthcare services,' he said. Majhi said the medical college will benefit the people of Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Rayagada districts, besides nearby areas of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. He also said all vacant posts at the medical college would be filled up soon. 'A cancer treatment centre is also being built on 2 acres adjacent to this hospital. For this, our government is spending about Rs 41.15 crore,' he said. The Chief Minister said there are currently 12 government medical colleges in the State, and four more will be set up in Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur and Nabarangpur. A total of 3.46 crore people or 80 per cent of the State's population are getting free healthcare cover under Ayushman Bharat and Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana schemes, he said. 'Till now, about 3.91 lakh people have been provided medical facilities worth Rs 900 crore under these two schemes,' he said. 'Similarly, 8,644 people above 70 have been provided healthcare benefits worth Rs 35.60 crore under Ayushman Vayabandhan Yojana,' he added. Majhi said the people of Koraput will also reap the benefits of development, as a significant amount of work has been accomplished in just one year of the BJP government in the State. Majhi reiterated his government's commitment to make Odisha a leading and prosperous State by 2036, citing progress in education, healthcare, agriculture, industry, employment generation and sustainable economic the function, Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling said another new chapter was added to the history of healthcare services in Koraput with the expansion of the hospital.
