Kota Kinabalu: A 22-year-old was fined RM25 or jailed three days by the Magistrate's Court here for peeping at a woman in a public toilet at a shopping mall last week. Terence Thien pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to entering the women's toilet on the lower floor of Star City, Asia City, and causing distress to a 25-year-old woman at around 6pm on Aug 7. The offence falls under Section 8(1)(e) of the Minor Offences Ordinance of Sabah, which carries a fine of RM25 or imprisonment of up to one week, on conviction. According to prosecution, the complainant was inside a cubicle when she noticed someone standing outside her door, with only a pair of feet visible. When she stepped out, she saw Thien running from the toilet. Although she tried to chase him, she was unsuccessful. The complainant then reviewed CCTV footage at the building's control room, which confirmed Thien's entry and exit from the women's toilet. About 20 minutes later, she spotted Thien on the first floor, brought him back to the CCTV room for identification, and subsequently contacted the police, leading to his arrest. In a separate case, 22-year-old Dayang Nurasymira was ordered to pay a fine of RM1,500 or face one month's imprisonment for engaging in online gambling in public. Dayang admitted to the offence committed at a coffee shop in Taman Nelly, Kolombong, on July 22 at 630pm. She was charged under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to six months, or both. During a police raid at the location, Dayang was arrested. An expert report confirmed that the equipment seized was used for online gambling. 600 Police Personnel To Be Deployed For Terengganu RXZ Members 7.0 Programme
KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- A total of 600 police officers and men will be deployed to manage traffic flow and maintain public safety during the RXZ Members 7.0 programme at the Gong Badak Motorsport Circuit in Kuala Nerus on Aug 22 and 23. Terengganu police chief Mohd Khairi Khairuddin said the number of participants this year is expected to nearly double, exceeding 100,000 people compared to 60,000 last year. He said the officers and personnel will be stationed at selected locations across the state to prevent any congestion that could disrupt the daily activities of the public. Mohd Khairi said three fatal accidents involving participants were reported while 89 summonses were issued for various offences at last year's RXZ Members 6.0 event. In addition, there were three cases of fraud involving non-existent homestays, with total losses amounting to RM1,400. He reminded all RXZ Members 7.0 participants to comply with traffic regulations and not to cause public disturbance by making excessive noise in public areas. 'Participants are advised not to bring prohibited items. Police will constantly monitor the situation,' he added.

Ukraine drone attack injures railway worker in Russia's Voronezh
VORONEZH: A Ukrainian drone attack injured a railway worker and damaged a power line at a station in Russia's Voronezh region, the local governor confirmed. Jogger succumbs to injuries after Tawau road crash

The victim, Darna Tajudin, had been receiving treatment at Tawau Hospital before being pronounced dead in the ward at 8.37am on Sunday. Police confirmed that a post-mortem will be carried out to determine the exact cause of death as part of the ongoing investigation. The case, which was initially investigated under Section 44(1)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987, has now been reclassified under Section 44(1)(b) for driving under the influence of alcohol above the prescribed limit, resulting in death.
