"This is an encouraging sign they're acknowledging" - Colin Cowherd believes Caitlin Clark is no longer viewed as a threat by fellow WNBA players originally appeared on Basketball Network.
Ever since Caitlin Clark entered the WNBA, the league has experienced a meteoric rise in viewership, fandom, ticket sales, and marketability. While media outlets were quick to credit the Indiana Fever guard for revitalizing a league that many felt had been stagnant for years, several players developed a sense of resentment toward her.
Since the spotlight fell solely on her, fellow WNBA players felt as if her arrival alone was being framed as the savior of the league. However, after Clark was voted as the future face of the league by fellow players, in a recent poll, sports analyst Colin Cowherd thanked the stars that CC is finally receiving the love and respect she deserves from those around her.
Cowherd understands the hesitation
Initially, while Clark was basked in the media spotlight and public praise, some WNBA veterans were understandably frustrated with the narrative that she had put the league on the map alone. It wasn't as though they weren't working hard enough or had a unique personality.
Cowherd acknowledged this sentiment but also pointed out that after months had passed, players were only starting to realize how Clark's presence benefited them. Whether through sold-out arenas, sponsorships, or broadcast exposure, Caitlin's image and name are helping the WNBA reach a certain platform, at which other players have a better chance to show their potential.
Speaking on his show, Cowherd compared Clark's rise to prominence and the difficulty she had been facing to that of young athletes like Mike Tyson, Tiger Woods, and LeBron James. Everybody knows they have the talent, but it's hard for the veterans to acknowledge their rapid ascension in fame.
"In a stunning development, WNBA players are acknowledging, 'Caitlin Clark's really good.'" started Colin. "WNBA players were polled on who is going to be the face in the league in five years, and the runaway vote was Caitlin Clark with 55 percent of the votes.
"In an industry… from the employees to go from 'ignored' to 'widely discussed and criticized' is really difficult. It was a tsunami of attention. So, you went from in the shadows to in the spotlight," Cowherd said with a bright smile on his face on "The Herd." "This is an encouraging sign they're acknowledging, 'Yeah, she's the face of the league.'"
Clark still needs to prove her potential
While bringing financial growth and visibility to the league is significant, Clark's next focus should be earning respect purely through her on-court accomplishments. If she wants to be recognized among the all-time greats, especially at such a young age, she needs to win, and win big.
Championships, MVPs, and postseason success will be the true markers of greatness. If she does that, the Fever rising star might leave no room for her critics to argue otherwise.
Nevertheless, as Cowherd pointed out, at least slowly and steadily, Clark is no longer conceived as a villain or a wanna-be-superstar in the minds of the fellow WNBA players.

'Thank Yous' Pouring In For Caitlin Clark's Foundation Tuesday

'Thank Yous' Pouring In For Caitlin Clark's Foundation Tuesday originally appeared on The Spun. Caitlin Clark has been sidelined for the past two weeks due to a groin injury, but that hasn't stopped her from being an inspiration to fans around the world. In 2023, the NCAA's all-time leading scorer founded the Caitlin Clark Foundation. She has already helped out local foundations and charities in Iowa over the past two years. "Caitlin's passion and joy on the court inspire her foundation's work off the court. The Caitlin Clark Foundation's mission is to uplift and improve the lives of youth and their communities through education, nutrition, and sports—three pillars Caitlin believes were foundational in her success," the foundation's mission statement reads. This past Monday, the All-Star guard for the Fever returned to Des Moines to help out the youth. She provided 500 backpacks full of school supplies for students at McCombs Middle School. Clark's incredible work this week was part of the grand opening for a new outdoor court McCombs Middle School. The court was funded by the Caitlin Clark Foundation and Musco Lighting. Unsurprisingly, basketball fans praised Clark for once again making an impact through her foundation. "This is what it's all about! This is bigger then basketball and she understands that," one fan commented on Instagram. "Thank you Caitlin," another Instagram user wrote. "Shoutout to Caitlin Clark and her foundation for helping the marginalized, underrepresented communities in her home state of Iowa," one fan said. I love to see Caitlin giving back, especially to the youth," another fan said. Clark finished this trip to McCombs Middle School by getting some shots up with a few kids. "It's always fun for myself to come back here and be in Des Moines. Obviously, this place means so much to me, and I hope to be able to continue to come back here and do this every year," Clark said, via Hawkeyes Wire. Kudos to Clark for truly using her platform to make a difference.'Thank Yous' Pouring In For Caitlin Clark's Foundation Tuesday first appeared on The Spun on Jul 29, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 29, 2025, where it first appeared.

"I think that's weird" - Kyrie Irving claims that Bill Gates owns the majority of the land and water in the United States

"I think that's weird" - Kyrie Irving claims that Bill Gates owns the majority of the land and water in the United States originally appeared on Basketball Network. Dallas Mavericks All-Star guard Kyrie Irving has been a very busy man hosting Twitch streams as of late. Ever since he got hurt, Irving has used the platform to speak out about his thoughts on various topics and issues. In recent weeks, Irving has made interesting comments about his tenure in Brooklyn, his relationship with Kevin Durant and James Harden, the disrespect for Kobe Bryant in the rankings and Stephen A. Smith not deserving of his $100 million contract from ESPN. Most recently, he revealed that Luka Doncic once dropped 24 points in 3 minutes versus Grant Williams in practice. Now, in a complete 180, Irving is claiming that Microsoft founder Bill Gates owns most of the land and water in the United States. "I still think that it's weird that the Gates family, Bill Gates, owns a lot of the land in North Dakota. I think that's weird. He owns majority of the water in the United States, I think that's weird. Whatever. To each his own. This is for information purpose only. But at the same time, when you go to the grocery store and you see some products that are on there that they spray with a bunch of sh–," said Irving. Gates is the largest private owner of farmland in the U.S. It's unclear what the complete context of Irving's statement was because that 30-second clip is the only one that's going around the internet. But as to his claim that Gates owns a lot of land in North Dakota, that is true because in 2022, Potato grower Campbell farms of North Dakota sold 2,100 acres of farmland for $13.5 million to a company called Red River Trust, which has ties to Gates. The deal became a subject of controversy, but Gates' company secured legal approval. As of July 2024, Gates was considered the largest private owner of farmland in the United States with 275,000 acres of property across more than a dozen states in the United States, not just in North Dakota. These land properties are used for growing agricultural products like potatoes, carrots, soybeans, and corn. Meanwhile, author Seamus Bruner provided the likely explanation for why Kyrie said that Bill also owns most of the water in the U.S. "When Gates buys tens of thousands of acres, he is not just buying the land — he is also buying the rights to water below ground. In addition to farms (and the irrigation) and fertilizer, Gates has been hunting for sizable interests in water and water treatment — a crucial component when seeking to control the agricultural industry," Bruner noted in Bill does not control the farmland in the U.S. However, while Gates is the largest private farmland owner in the country, his percentage of ownership of the total farmland in the United States is a mere 0.03 percent of the total 876.5 acres as of 2024. Three years ago, Gates also explained why he has been amassing farmland recently. "I own less than 1/4000 of the farmland in the U.S. I have invested in these farms to make them more productive and create more jobs. There isn't some grand scheme involved — in fact, all these decisions are made by a professional investment team," he said. To be clear, Irving said he only mentioned what he said for informative purposes. But if he was trying to insinuate anything by saying it's weird, all of Gates' transactions are legal, unless you want to come up with a conspiracy theory. But Kyrie left it at that, so let us, story was originally reported by Basketball Network on Jul 29, 2025, where it first appeared.

Sports Fans Celebrating Cameron Brink's Highly-Anticipated WNBA Return

Sports Fans Celebrating Cameron Brink's Highly-Anticipated WNBA Return originally appeared on The Spun. It's been a long road back for WNBA star Cameron Brink but she's finally been given the green light to return to the floor following last year's season-ending ACL and meniscus tear. 13 months after her promising rookie year ended prematurely, the 6-foot-4 LA Sparks forward has officially been listed as active by the team. Clearing the decks for Brink to make her 2025 debut in tonight's game vs. Las Vegas. The former No. 2 pick was averaging 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 2.3 blocks per game before suffering the injury on June 18. And in the 15 contests she was able to play in she had already proved to be a strong defensive force in the middle of the paint. "Cameron Brink returns tonight 👏" the WNBA posted. Fans were happy to have her back on X. "Let's go Cam!!! 💪🏻💪🏻" Lindsey Vonn replied. "Can't wait to watch 🙌🏼" a user exclaimed. "I'm ready to watch her dominate," a fan said. "Sparks have a full, complete, and healthy roster! That's all that matters! Please don't put too much pressure on Cam~ just happy she's well enough to hit the court!" another person commented. "We will be watching," another user stated. "welcome back Cam!!!" "My favorite player is back!" another fan shared. "Let's go!" Brink will more than likely be on a minutes restriction for the foreseeable future but says she can't wait to be back out there with her ladies. "It means the world," Brink told sports reporter John W. Davis yesterday. "I'm just very excited, very humbled by this experience. It's no easy thing to come back from. Just really excited." The Sparks are currently 11-14 and just 1.5 games out of the fourth seed in the West. Adding Brink to the mix should only help LA's chances; but it's understandably going to take some time for her to get back to the play we've become accustomed to since her days at Fans Celebrating Cameron Brink's Highly-Anticipated WNBA Return first appeared on The Spun on Jul 30, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 30, 2025, where it first appeared.
