‘The Studio' Breaks ‘Ted Lasso' Emmy Record for Most Nominations for a Freshman Comedy Series, Ties ‘The Bear' for Most in History
Apple TV+ continues its awards season dominance as its freshman comedy series 'The Studio' shattered records Tuesday, receiving 23 Emmy nominations — the most ever for a comedy series in its first season. It also tied the record set by 'The Bear' last year, as the most nominated comedy series ever.

The previous record was set in 2021 by 'Ted Lasso,' another Apple TV+ production, which scored 20 nominations during its debut year. That series went on to win seven Emmys, including three for acting (Jason Sudeikis, Brett Goldstein and Hannah Waddingham) and outstanding comedy series.
Created by Evan Goldberg, Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, Frida Perez and Seth Rogen — who also directed, wrote and star in the series — 'The Studio' follows an embattled Hollywood studio head struggling to balance corporate demands with his passion for producing quality films. The ensemble cast also includes Catherine O'Hara, Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders and Kathryn Hahn.
The series received nominations in major categories, including four individual nominations for Rogen — outstanding comedy series, lead actor, writing, and directing. If he wins all four, he would tie the record for most Emmys won by a single individual in one night, joining Moira Demos for Netflix's 'Making a Murderer' (2016), Amy Sherman-Palladino for Prime Video's 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' (2018) and Dan Levy for Pop TV's 'Schitt's Creek' (2020).
'The Studio' has solidified itself as a potential frontrunner for the comedy series statuette.
In her review of 'The Studio,' Variety chief TV critic Alison Herman called the show 'a lavish spectacle.' With the success of 'The Studio,' Apple TV+ continues to cement its reputation as a major player in prestige television, particularly in the comedy space. The platform's growing critical acclaim mirrors the rise of other streaming services that have reshaped the awards landscape in recent years.
This year's Emmy nominations were announced by actors Harvey Guillén ('What We Do in the Shadows') and Brenda Song ('Running Point') from the Academy's Wolf Theatre.
The 77th Emmy Awards will be hosted by Nate Bargatze and broadcast live Sunday, Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBS, as well as stream live and on demand via select packages on Paramount+.

Ivanka Trump, a student of jiu-jitsu, may play a key role in the White House UFC fight
Ivanka Trump has been sharpening her Brazilian jiu-jitsu skills. And while her moves may not be on display for the occasion, she'll play a key role when the Ultimate Fighting Championship, a professional mixed-martial arts organization, stages its fight on the White House grounds as part of America's 250th birthday celebrations. The first daughter will be involved in the planning of the historic UFC fight on July 4, 2026, a White House official told USA TODAY. President Donald Trump first introduced the idea of hosting the UFC fight last month while talking about special events around the country to celebrate the anniversary of American independence. 'I even think we're going to have a UFC fight,' he said during an Iowa rally last month. 'We're going to have a UFC fight. Think of this – on the grounds of the White House. We have a lot of land there,' he said. 'It's gonna be a championship fight, full fight, like 20-25,000 people.' Seeing 'oceanfront property' in Ukraine, Trump's real estate history shapes his presidency The president is known to be fascinated with the sport, having attended three UFC events since his election in November. At the Republican National Convention, Dana White, the president of the organization, introduced him to the crowd. White told CBS Mornings that he had chatted with Trump about the event on Aug. 11, and was planning to visit Washington, D.C., toward the end of the month to discuss details with the president and his daughter. 'He said, 'I want Ivanka in the middle of this,'' White told 'CBS Mornings.' 'So Ivanka reached out to me, and her and I started talking about the possibilities.' Meanwhile, Ivana Trump, also of fan of UFC – judging by her social media posts – has talked about her introduction into the martial arts. A mother of three, Ivanka Trump, said her whole family got involved after her daughter Arabella began taking jiu-jitsu lessons. 'It's almost like a moving meditation because the movements are so micro,' she said in an interview with the YouTube Jui Jitsu Channel. 'It's like three-dimensional chess. I'll watch Ultimate Fighting and … see some of these moves are so subtle. It's fun.' Ivanka Trump, who served as a senior advisor in the White House during her father's first term in office, has kept a low profile in the first six months of his second term. But that might be about to change. Swapna Venugopal Ramaswamy is a White House correspondent for USA TODAY. You can follow her on X @SwapnaVenugopal

Jason Bourne Movies Get Major Update for Matt Damon Series
The Jason Bourne franchise may be readying to return, with Variety reporting that NBCUniversal has acquired all the rights to Robert Ludlum's book series. What's the new Jason Bourne movie update? The deal, according to Variety, will see NBCUniversal gain all rights, excluding publishing, to the book series in perpetuity. Variety's report mentions that this now paves the way for 'new installments' for Matt Damon's Jason Bourne. While no official new movie was announced, it seems like NBCU has big plans for the franchise due to the sum they paid. No official terms were disclosed, but Variety's report notes that the deal came as part of a 'highly competitive bidding situation' that had upwards of seven offers. In the end, NBCU's offer, which is said to be 'a massive nine-figure proposal,' won out. 'Since its debut in 2002, the iconic Bourne franchise has reshaped the spy genre with groundbreaking films that set new standards for cinematic action,' said Universal Pictures president Peter Cramer. 'We're energized to continue expanding the Bourne universe into the future with exciting new stories for global audiences.' The Bourne film series began back in 2002, with The Bourne Identity, directed by Doug Liman and starring Damon in the titular role. The film franchise follows the titular Jason Bourne, a CIA assassin suffering from amnesia, played by Damon. The franchise is based on Ludlum's books, and has produced five films so far, the most recent of which was 2016's Jason Bourne. In total, the Bourne movie franchise is one of the most successful and popular in all of Hollywood. To date, the series has grossed over $1.6 billion, and also helped popularize the more gritty and realistic tones that action thrillers have adopted in the 2000s. Who Is Naomi Scott? All the Details on Adam Scott's Wife
The Emmys are incoming and—if my manifesting worked—Severance will be taking home several awards. The series is nominated for 27 Emmys this year (the most of any show), which means the entire cast will be on the carpet—plus their plus ones, which brings us to Adam Scott. And i you, too, found yourself forming a random parasocial attachment to Adam thanks to Severance, it's probably time for a deep dive on his wife Naomi Scott and their verrrrrry cute relationship. Adam and Naomi are one of the rare Hollywood couples that actually last, and they've been going strong for a quarter century. The pair met at a bar in 1998 and married in 2005, going on to have two kids named Graham and Frankie. Adam and Naomi mostly keep their kids out of the spotlight, but Adam shouts his wife out on Instagram all the time. Also can we talk about the time he told Us Weekly "I just love [Naomi]. I think she's the coolest, the smartest, the funniest, and the most beautiful. It's pretty I just hope that she still likes me most of the time. It's worked out, and I'm really, really lucky, but I just can't imagine anything else. I'm just lucky." I can't. Also, sorry, have more cute posts to share: Naomi was a producer on Fun Mom Dinner and Other People, and she and Adam also have a production company named, incredibly, Gettin' Rad Productions. Adam and Naomi spoke to Vulture about working together, and he noted that she "can really put things into slots and make things work." Meanwhile Naomi said, "I was looking around and saying, 'So many people want to work with you,' and I helped put all those pieces together to actually make something." Naomi also told Movablefest, "We've been together for a long time, so part of that is our tastes now have blended. They were pretty similar to start with, but now the things that make me laugh, make him laugh and vice versa." Anyway, here's one of their red carpet interviews in case you're interested in vibes (they're impeccable). "I started at Jimmy Kimmel Live. I was there for the first year; I was an assistant there and then ended up being a producer on that show. That was my foray into producing," Naomi told SAG Indie. "It was really fun though. We had some great people who had worked on Letterman, including our executive producer and the head writer, so there was a feeling that anything could happen and it had that kind of feel to the show. So even though that piece was short-lived, it was great and we all learned huge lessons in a short amount of time." Adam told Us Weekly, "They're teenagers now so actually Severance has really connected with them. They love it. It's the first time they've ever been interested at all in something I've done, at least that they've admitted to me. I can't imagine that they're keeping a secret that they're secretly fascinated by my work and not telling me about it. But they really do love it. I think they just never wanna watch anything I'm in because they get enough of me at home. They're 13 and 15, and I think the last thing they wanna do is something [like] that. But I do know that they're both really, really incredibly smart, hilarious, caring people, and that's all that I care about."
