"My mission will end in two weeks, and it is natural for us to start thinking about what conclusions we can offer and share with you several ideas after a beautiful experience with you in Iraq. I am optimistic about the future of your country and the source of optimism is the creativity, courage, dignity and endurance of the Iraqi people," Hitchen said, in a speech during the economic conference of the Iraqi-British Business Council - attended by the Iraqi News Agency - INA reporter.

Iraq looks beyond Asia for oil sales
Shafaq News – Baghdad Asia remains the primary destination for Iraqi crude, absorbing nearly three-quarters of exports, according to official data. Eco Iraq quoted analyst Duraid Abdullah on Saturday as saying about 75% of shipments leave Basra for China and India, where freight is cheaper and transit faster than to other markets. US Energy Information Administration (EIA) figures put the Asian share at 72%, with South Korea also a key buyer. Europe, by contrast, accounts for about a fifth of Iraqi exports. Deliveries routed through the Red Sea and Suez Canal add more than $10 per barrel in transport costs compared with Asia, while flows to the United States make up roughly 7%. Another 5% is directed to smaller markets such as Tunisia and South Africa. Baghdad is considering ways to ease pressure on southern terminals and cut costs. Proposals include rehabilitating the Kirkuk–Baniyas pipeline through Syria, exploring a link to Lebanon's Tripoli terminal, and reviving the long-discussed Basra–Aqaba line. Officials are also examining upgrades to offshore loading facilities in Basra.

In a statement, al-Sudani highlighted the party's role since its founding in 1946, noting its resistance to dictatorship and contributions to building democratic governance. He urged continued cooperation to strengthen national achievements. In turn, al-Mashhadani underscored the KDP's sacrifices in pursuit of freedom, justice, and pluralism, describing it as a cornerstone of Iraq's political system and an essential partner in sustaining stability. Currently led by Masoud Barzani, the KDP is the dominant force in the Kurdistan Regional Government, holding 39 seats in the Kurdish Parliament. Nationally, it is also a significant player, with 31 seats in the Iraqi Parliament.

Iraq's Security Chief defends Iran border memorandum
Shafaq News – Baghdad Iraq's National Security Adviser Qassim al-Araji met US Chargé d'Affaires Steven Fagin on Saturday to discuss the recent border security memorandum between Baghdad and Tehran. According to a statement from the adviser's office, al-Araji outlined the document, which provides for tighter border control, anti-smuggling measures, and action against infiltration, confirming that "Iraq's policies are guided by national interests and sovereignty, while pursuing balanced relations with both regional and international partners." Fagin, in turn, reaffirmed US support for Iraq's balanced diplomacy, praised ongoing efforts to return displaced families, and noted plans for an international conference in New York to press countries to repatriate nationals from Syria's al-Hol camp. The memorandum, signed last week in Baghdad under Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani's sponsorship, was presented by Iraqi officials as a memorandum of understanding rather than a binding treaty. Washington rejected the deal, calling it 'inconsistent with US objectives' and harmful to Iraq's existing security institutions. Iraq countered that it is a sovereign step to strengthen stability and border security.
