Two bulldozer drivers killed after plunging into ravine, slope
KUALA KRAI: Two men were killed after the bulldozers they were driving plunged into a slope and ravine at two separate locations yesterday.
Kuala Krai district police chief Superintendent Mazlan Mamat said the first incident involved a 49-year-old Thai national whose bulldozer slipped and fell down a slope at Ladang Dabong, Km27 of Jalan Sungai Sam-Dabong.
He said the police received a call about the incident at 2.50pm.
"Initial investigations found that the victim was driving the bulldozer to a hillside area to take a break when the machine slipped and fell down the slope.
He was flung from the vehicle and subsequently crushed.
"The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
"His body was retrieved from the bulldozer with the help of the Fire and Rescue Department," he said in a statement last night.
In the second incident, Mazlan said a 59-year-old local man died after the bulldozer he was driving fell into a ravine over 100 metres deep at Ladang Bonanza, Laloh, Kuala Krai at around 3.30pm.
"Preliminary investigations found that the victim had been working at the plantation to build terraces.
"However, the bulldozer slipped off the path during the work and plunged into the ravine.
"The victim was trapped in the machine and was confirmed dead at the scene," he said.
He said both bodies were sent to the Forensic Unit of Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital (HSIP) for post-mortem examination.
"The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.

[UPDATED] Police: Tracing movements of missing Briton led to Bangsar body discovery
KUALA LUMPUR: A police search for a missing Briton at a partially under construction condominium along Lorong Maarof in Bangsar led to the discovery of decomposed body there. Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood confirmed that police had traced the movements of the missing man — Jordan Johnson-Doyle — to the condominium about 4pm today. "We then launched a search of the entire building with a team comprising at least 30 policemen. "At around 5pm, a body was discovered in a partially submerged elevator shaft in a part of the building that was still under construction," he told reporters at the scene today. He said, however, it was too early to determine the identity of the body. Ku Mashariman said further action would be taken at the University Malaya Medical Centre pathology unit to identify the body as well as the cause of death. "As the body was found in a rather isolated area which was partially submerged, it will take some time and effort before members of the Fire and Rescue Department can remove it and hand it over to us for further action. "We will not be taking DNA samples from the body at the scene. All efforts to either identify the body physically or through DNA analysis will be conducted at UMMC," he said, urging the public to refrain from speculating on the case until they had identified the body. Asked if there was a possibility that the deceased individual whose body was found here had fallen into the elevator shaft, he said that possibility and all other angles would be investigated thoroughly by the police. Staff at the Bangsar bar where Johnson-Doyle was last seen confirmed he had attended a quiz night the evening he disappeared. One employee said the 25-year-old was present but could not confirm what happened next or who he was with. Another employee said he could not clearly recall seeing him and only learned about the case via media. Ku Mashariman had told the New Straits Times that officers had visited several locations in Bangsar believed to have been frequented by Johnson-Doyle. Statements were recorded from two individuals at those locations. Checks by the NST at several nearby residential flats — where Johnson-Doyle's mother, Leanne Burnett, claimed to have last tracked him — found no residents matching his description. Police had earlier issued a public appeal following Johnson-Doyle's disappearance, after he was last heard from on May 27. Speaking to the UK's Daily Mail, Burnett said she felt "numb" and "just wants to bring him home." His last known location was Healy Mac's Irish Bar in Bangsar around 8pm, where he had sent a photo of the pub's quiz night poster to his best friend, Owen. Johnson-Doyle, a software engineer, had been backpacking across the Mediterranean and Southeast Asia for over a year, working remotely for an American tech company. He arrived in Malaysia on May 17 after visiting Vietnam and is believed to have been staying at the Robertson Residences in Bukit Bintang. Burnett last spoke to her son on May 26. Those with information on the case should contact the police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or go to the nearest police station.

Singaporean businessman nabbed before flight at Bangkok airport over suspected tax evasion
David Liu was about to board a flight to Singapore on June 2, 2025 when he was arrested in the Thai capital. - Photo: CIBTHAILAND/Facebook SINGAPORE: A Singaporean businessman who was about to fly back home was arrested at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport over suspected tax evasion to the tune of more than 5.2 million baht (S$205,000), Thai police said on Wednesday (June 4). He was identified by the Thai police's Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD) as David Liu, 71, a former director of media analytics company Isentia Monitoring Services (Thailand). Liu was about to board a flight to Singapore on June 2 when he was arrested in the Thai capital, said ECD commander Thatphum Charuprat. He was arrested for allegedly trying to evade by fraud or deceit value-added tax payable by Isentia. Investigations had found that the Singaporean was an authorised director of the media company from July to October 2015. According to an annual report by Isentia, Liu was appointed as the Asia chief executive of the Sydney-headquartered media intelligence company on June 1, 2015. He left Isentia in 2019, according to a post on LinkedIn, where he is now listed as CEO of a data intelligence firm. He admitted to previously being the director of Isentia, but denied wrongdoing, the Bangkok Post reported, citing ECD commander Thatphum Charuprat at a media briefing. Thailand's Revenue Department had filed a complaint against Isentia after discovering an incorrect tax filing of zero tax returns despite the company being found to have generated revenue. But no company representative responded after a police summons was issued, said the police. The suspected damages against the state in lost revenue was nearly 5.24 million baht, said the ECD. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued by the Phra Khanong Criminal Court. Liu was tracked by the police and arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport before he boarded his flight. If convicted, he faces a fine of up to 200,000 baht and a seven-year prison term. The Straits Times has contacted Isentia for comment. - The Straits Times/ANN
