KCCI support hailed: Sindh CM says commited to improve business environment
Speaking at the Flag Hoisting and Independence Day Ceremony at the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Wednesday, the Chief Minister announced that the newly constructed 100 MGD Hub Canal, along with the rehabilitation of the existing canal, was inaugurated by Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari today, significantly boosting Karachi's water supply. Furthermore, development work on K-IV water supply scheme will also be completed soon whereas Sindh government is also in the process of effluent water treatment plants so that the water being dumped into the ocean can be utilized by Karachiites to overcome their water needs, he added.
The event was attended by Sindh Minister for Industries Jam Ikramullah Khan Dharejo, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Chairman BMG Zubair Motiwala, President KCCI Muhammad Jawed Bilwani, Senior Vice President Zia ul Arfeen, Vice President Faisal Khalil Ahmed, members of the Managing Committee, and former Presidents of KCCI.
CM Sindh praised KCCI for embracing this year's Independence Day theme, 'Marka-e-Haq,' calling it a reflection of the nation's quest for dignity and justice. He also lauded the restoration of KCCI's historic building, describing it as a landmark of Karachi's economic heritage, and congratulated Chairman Zubair Motiwala and his team for reviving its grandeur.
The Chief Minister assured that surrounding streets will be rehabilitated by Mayor Karachi and reaffirmed the Sindh Government's commitment to resolving Karachi's civic and business challenges in close partnership with KCCI.
While addressing the gathering, CM Shah reflected on the unity displayed by Pakistanis in the face of recent hostilities by India. He recalled that when India cast an aggressive eye towards Pakistan, the nation stood shoulder to shoulder with the Armed Forces, compelling the adversary to declare a ceasefire within hours.
He stressed that Pakistan remains a peace-loving nation but will always respond with strength to safeguard its sovereignty.
He further remarked that Pakistan is no longer in isolation, as countries around the world are seeking stronger ties with it.
Chairman Businessmen Group, Zubair Motiwala, in his remarks, said that August 14 is a remarkable day that set Pakistan free from colonial rule and must be celebrated with full zeal while remembering the two million people who sacrificed their lives for independence.
He paid glowing tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah for creating Pakistan and lauded the Armed Forces for their exemplary response to Indian aggression, leaving no choice but for the adversary to raise the white flag.
He also expressed his firm belief that Kashmir will one day become part of Pakistan, reaffirming it as a national pledge.
President KCCI, Muhammad Jawed Bilwani, extended heartfelt congratulations to the nation on Pakistan's 78th Independence Day and paid homage to the sacrifices of those who made freedom possible.
He praised the Sindh Government's 'Marka-e-Haq' theme as resonating with the spirit of the independence struggle. Highlighting the historic significance of KCCI's building, he noted that it had undergone its second major renovation after a gap of 16 years with the aim of preserving its original grandeur. He expressed deep appreciation for the leadership of the Businessmen Group, particularly Chairman Zubair Motiwala, for keeping KCCI strong, united, and proactive in safeguarding the interests of the business community.

CM, ministers, governor express solidarity with K-P flood victims
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and widespread devastation caused by recent flash floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir. In conversations with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Murad Ali Shah conveyed the Sindh government's solidarity with the affected areas during this difficult time. He assured that Sindh was ready to extend all possible assistance to fellow citizens, adding that medical facilities in Karachi had been made available for those injured in the floods. The chief minister also expressed deep grief over the helicopter crash near Changi Banda, in which five personnel lost their lives while on a public service mission. Extending his sympathies over the loss of life and property caused by recent cloudbursts and flash floods in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, Murad Ali Shah stressed the need for a unified national strategy to tackle natural disasters and mitigate their impact. He prayed for patience, strength, and fortitude for the bereaved families. Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon said that during this difficult time, the Pakistan Peoples Party stands with the people of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and is always ready to provide unconditional support. Sharjeel further stated that the Sindh government is always ready to help its brothers in K-P and will provide all possible assistance if needed. Meanwhile, Governor Kamran Khan Tessori expressed profound grief over the recent flood devastation and casualties in Buner district, K-P. In a condolence message, he extended heartfelt sympathies to the families of the deceased, stating that the people of Sindh shared the sorrow of the affected communities. The governor also spoke with the prime minister of Azad Kashmir, discussing the recent heavy rains and flooding in the region, and assured that Sindh's people stood firmly with their Kashmiri brothers and would continue to extend all possible support and relief efforts.

Chehlum, Urs of Data conclude under tightened security
The Chehlum of Imam Hussain (RA) and the concluding ceremonies of the Urs of Data Ali Hajveri, widely known as Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA), were observed across Punjab on Friday under extensive security arrangements. Authorities confirmed that all processions, majalis, and Urs gatherings concluded peacefully, with no major incidents reported. This year, the 20th of Safar in the Islamic calendar coincided with both the Chehlum and the third and final day of the Urs celebrations in Lahore. Over 37,000 police officers and personnel were deployed across the province to ensure security at 644 majalis and 392 mourning processions. In Lahore alone, 44 majalis and 14 processions were held, guarded by over 12,000 officers. DIG Operations Lahore Faisal Kamran personally inspected the route of the main Chehlum procession from Haveli Alf Shah in the inner city. Security forces sealed connecting streets, stationed snipers on rooftops, and monitored routes via real-time CCTV provided by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority. Walk-through gates, 6,753 metal detectors, and 926 checkpoints were set up for screening. Women officers were deployed for women and children, while plainclothes personnel monitored crowds. "Maintaining peace and protecting every citizen is our mission," Kamran said, urging public cooperation during sensitive occasions. Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar praised the "excellent security arrangements" and commended the CCPO Lahore, DIG Operations, and senior officers for their coordination. He noted that law enforcement agencies had been on high alert for several days, implementing measures against one-wheeling, aerial firing, and other violations during both the religious observances and Independence Day celebrations earlier in the week. Police reported 277 arrests and 249 cases during the crackdown, including 162 arrests for one-wheeling and 13 for aerial firing. Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, who also chairs the Punjab Cabinet Committee on Law and Order, visited the Home Department's central control room to review live monitoring. He was joined by Acting Chief Secretary Punjab Ahmad Raza Sarwar, Home Secretary Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi, and other senior officials. Rafique reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring peace, protecting lives and property, and guaranteeing complete religious freedom. He said authorities had engaged scholars and community leaders from all sects throughout Muharram to promote unity and harmony. The Acting Chief Secretary added that all relevant departments - including police, Rescue 1122, and traffic authorities - remained on high alert until the safe return of mourners and devotees. The Home Secretary said a zero-tolerance policy was being enforced against sectarian hate speech, with the provincial cyber-patrolling cell monitoring and taking action against violators. Special arrangements were made in Lahore for thousands of devotees attending the Urs. Control rooms at provincial and district levels ensured continuous coordination among security and administrative agencies. Officials credited the joint efforts of Punjab Police, the Home Department, district administrations, and religious leaders for the peaceful conclusion of both events.
