White Sox 2B Chase Meidroth departs after he gets hit by a pitch
Meidroth was hit by an 89.6 mph sinker from Taijuan Walker in the fifth inning. The rookie stayed in to run the bases, but he was replaced by Lenyn Sosa before Philadelphia batted in the sixth.
The White Sox said X-rays were negative, and Meidroth is day to day.
The 24-year-old Meidroth is batting .252 with three homers, 15 RBIs and 11 steals in 83 games. He was acquired by Chicago in the Garrett Crochet deal with Boston in December.

NEW YORK (AP) The first career save for Nic Enright was a particularly meaningful one. Enright, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in late 2022 and is scheduled to complete his treatments later this year, allowed an unearned run in the 10th inning Monday night to close out the Cleveland Guardians' 7-6 win over the New York Mets. 'He was almost crying on the field just now,' Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said. 'If you read his story, it's pretty inspirational.' Cleveland selected Enright in the 20th round of the 2019 amateur draft out of Virginia Tech. He received his diagnosis Dec. 22, 2022 - 15 days after the Miami Marlins took him in the Rule 5 draft. After four rounds of immunotherapy in early 2023, Enright made nine minor league rehab appearances for the Marlins before being designated for assignment and returning to the Guardians in late May. He missed most of last season due to a right shoulder strain, but went 2-1 with a 1.06 ERA in 16 appearances with Triple-A Columbus. The right-hander has one more round of cancer treatment scheduled for November. 'I made the decision when I was diagnosed in 2022 with Hodgkin lymphoma that I wasn't going to let that define my life and dictate how I was going to go about my life,' Enright said. 'It's something where, for anyone else who is going through anything similar, (it shows) I haven't just holed up in my house and felt sorry for myself this whole time.' Enright made his major league debut May 25 and has a 2.01 ERA in 19 appearances for the Guardians, whose bullpen is in flux with All-Star closer Emmanuel Clase on paid leave as part of a sports gambling investigation. Hunter Gaddis and Cade Smith pitched the eighth and ninth innings Monday before Enright entered with a two-run lead. He gave up a two-out RBI single to Brett Baty before retiring Luis Torrens on a fly out to the warning track in right. 'I definitely held my breath as I saw Nolan (Jones) kind of keep running,' Enright said. 'But I had faith. As he kind of got closer to the wall, I realized it was losing steam.' Enright was showered with beer by teammates in the locker room. 'I was so happy, oh, I was going nuts in here,' Guardians starting pitcher Slade Cecconi said with a smile. 'I was going absolutely berserk. He came in running up the stairs, smile on his face.' Enright thanked his wife, his parents and the rest of his family for their support throughout an interview at his locker. He got the ball from the final out and plans to set aside his uniform and hat as well as a lineup card. 'Really, really cool,' Enright said. 'These last couple of years, especially, I've gone through a lot of adversity and just everything that's gone on. And so for me, it's being able to reflect on those in these moments. I think that helps being able to slow the game down. Because it hasn't exactly been a red-carpet rollout for my career trajectory.'

Teddy Bridgewater to sign with Buccaneers following suspension from high school coaching job
Teddy Bridgewater is making another NFL comeback, as Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht confirmed the team's plans to sign him. Bridgewater, 32, is coming out of retirement for the second time to join Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask. Licht confirmed to reporters on Tuesday that Bridgewater was in Tampa for a visit and that while no deal is official, the "intention" is to sign him. "We had some discussions about it, that it'd be a nice addition to the [quarterback] room, good for Baker. Experienced guy, obviously a smart, hell of high school coach – hell of a coach in general. But just a good addition just to have that wealth of experience there." Licht did not say that Bridgewater would step in to serve as the backup over Trask, but did say that the competition is still open. Bridgewater has played 10 seasons in the NFL, predominately with the Minnesota Vikings, who he was selected by in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He also spent time with the New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos and the Miami Dolphins. In 2023, he announced his plans to retire, which he officially did in early 2024. He went on to pursue coaching football at his former high school in Miami, where he led the team to a Class 3A state championship last season. Bridgewater came out of retirement in December to join the Detroit Lions in their playoff pursuit. He is 33-32 as a starter and has totaled 15,120 yards, 75 touchdowns, 47 interceptions and has a 90.5 passer rating. Last month, Bridgewater was suspended from coaching his former high school team for providing players with financial benefits. He questioned the suspension, adding in a Facebook post that he "self reported." He also said in the post, "I'm not going anywhere."

Panthers RB Rico Dowdle looks to prove he's worthy of being NFL starter after leaving Cowboys
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Carolina Panthers weren't necessary looking to add a starting-caliber running back in free agency after giving Chuba Hubbard a four-year, $33 million contract extension last November. They found one anyway. Coach Dave Canales said he's been 'ecstatic' since the Panthers signed Rico Dowdle in March, giving the team added depth in the backfield with a second 1,000-yard rusher. In so doing, they've added a highly motivated player who's eager to prove that he's still worthy of being a No. 1 back — and being paid like one — after the Dallas Cowboys opted not to re-sign him. 'I definitely thought I would have had the opportunity to get a shot with the ones this year, but it didn't come down to that,' Dowdle said of his time on the free-agent market. Some running back-needy teams opted for the draft to fill their needs rather than sign the 27-year-old Dowdle. So he chose to bet on himself, agreeing to a one-year, $2.75 million contract with the Panthers that could pay him up to $6 million with performance incentives. Dowdle hopes that if all goes well he can parlay his success into a big contract next spring. In the meantime, he felt Carolina, with an improving offensive line led by highly paid guards Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis, was the best fit for him. It also afforded him the opportunity to return to the Carolinas where he played high school football in Asheville, North Carolina, and college ball at South Carolina. 'Great to be home,' he said with a smile. Despite rushing for 1,079 yards and averaging 4.6 yards per carry and catching 39 passes for 249 yards and totaling five TDs in his first year as a starter, the Cowboys didn't express much interest in re-signing Dowdle despite a late-season surge that included three straight 100-yard rushing games. Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones instead drafted Jaydon Blue from Texas in the fifth round and signed veteran free agents Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, who was Hubbard's backup last season. 'To have two 1,000-yard backs in the same room and guys with experience, guys who can really do it all — can pass protect really well, catch the ball out of the backfield, I mean I was ecstatic,' Canales said. 'When we were kind of working through things (in free agency) and it starting looking like we were going to have a chance to get this guy, I couldn't have been more excited.' Hubbard remains the starter in Carolina, coming off a career-high 1,195 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns in 2024 — despite sitting out the final two games. But Canales sees a role for the 5-foot-11, 215-pound Dowdle, although he was sparse on the details. Dowdle could have to compete for reps with fourth-round draft pick Trevor Etienne from Georgia, who has looked strong and fast in training camp. Carolina selected Texas' Jonathon Brooks in the second round in 2024, but he'll miss the entire season after reinjuring his ACL as a rookie. 'He's exactly what we're looking for out of our running backs,' Canales said of Dowdle. 'Our backs, they run the runs exactly the way they're supposed to be run — with discipline. And once they get past that first level they run with violence. (Dowdle) does those things.' Dowdle would love to parlay a big season into a big paycheck. But for now he said he's here to help the Panthers win. He's in a familiar position, having to prove himself all over — just as he had to do coming into the league as an undrafted rookie in 2020. 'Coming from the position of being undrafted and obviously having to make the roster every, every year, I always feel like I got something to prove,' Dowdle said. 'And I will have something to prove until I get to where I wanna go.' Browns to visit The Panthers practiced Tuesday in a downpour and more rain is in the forecast for Wednesday's joint practice with the Cleveland Browns.
