Industry must follow ethical practices in labelling, advertising food products: Govt
The concern was raised at a National Stakeholder Consultation on the subject, 'Comprehensive Analysis of Regulatory Framework on Food Labelling, Advertisement and Claims,' the Health Ministry said in a statement.
The consultation was organised by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
At the event, MHFW Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava stressed the importance of ethical and truthful practices in labelling and advertising in the food sector.
According to the statement, she said, "Things are changing rapidly today. We are now exposed to the entire world, which means we must adopt many positive changes and best practices, while also scrutinizing food products more closely."
Nidhi Khare, Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, asked the industry to make "truthful and honest declarations" and desist from misleading ads.
"Food labelling should not just be a marketing tool, but it should also be treated as the most essential factor of trust between a manufacturer and a consumer. We want truthful and honest declaration of whatever is contained in the food product, and the consumer should be left to make the final choice," Khare said.
The consultation was attended by around 700 representatives from central and state governments, scientific experts, food businesses, industry associations, consumer organizations, and academic institutions.>

It will test all types of food items, including milk, curd, and other essentials brought from various parts of the country, before they are used in food preparation. Trained staff will be deployed to ensure smooth functioning. The minister said that the Visakhapatnam state-level food lab will also start functioning next month, with equipment installation in its final stages. Plans are underway to set up state-level food labs at Guntur Government General Hospital and in Tirupati. Kurnool already has a regional food laboratory, which will be upgraded with a new building. Land identification for the project is in progress. Public health laboratories in Ongole and Eluru are being modernised at a cost of ₹13 crore, with advanced equipment already ordered. NEET MDS revised cut off list released : The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has officially revised the cut-off marks for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Masters of Dental Surgery (NEET MDS) 2025, following a directive from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The move comes after the Health Ministry ordered a reduction of 19.863 percentile points in the minimum qualifying percentiles for all categories, including General, SC/ST/OBC, and UR-PwBD. The NEET MDS 2025 results were initially declared on May 15, 2025. However, in a letter dated August 10, 2025 (No. V.12025/84/2024-DE), the Health Ministry instructed NBEMS to implement the percentile reduction in accordance with the Dental Council of India's MDS Regulations, 2017, and the amended provisions under the Master of Dental Surgery Course Regulations, 2018. Revised NEET MDS 2025 qualifying percentiles and scores The updated qualifying benchmarks for the 2025–26 academic session are: Category Earlier Qualifying Percentile Earlier Cut-Off Score (out of 960) Revised Qualifying Percentile Revised Cut-Off Score (out of 960) General (UR/EWS) 50 percentile 261 30.137 percentile 197 General-PwBD 45 percentile 244 25.137 percentile 182 SC/ST/OBC (including PwBD of SC/ST/OBC) 40 percentile 227 20.137 percentile 168 This recalibration is expected to widen the pool of eligible candidates, allowing more aspirants to participate in the counselling process for postgraduate dental seats. Advisory to candidates NBEMS has stated that the NEET MDS 2025 information bulletin should be read in light of these changes. Eligible candidates who now meet the revised cut-offs are advised to prepare for the upcoming counselling rounds as per the Dental Council of India's schedule and guidelines. With this percentile reduction, the competition landscape for postgraduate dental admissions will undergo a notable shift. While the decision opens doors for a larger number of candidates, it also means that merit-based rankings will play an even more critical role in seat allocation.
