Neighbours of Brit grandad who ‘attempted to drown' daughter-in-law say she WAS his ‘girlfriend' as they reveal shock

FRIENDS of a British grandad accused of trying to drown his daughter-in-law have told of their shock at his attempted murder charge.
Neighbours revealed how Mark Gibbon, 62, would "often" have his alleged victim Jasmine Wyld - who locals described as his "girlfriend" - "staying with him".

Divorced Gibbon was arrested last week after allegedly forcing Wyld's head under the water in a pool at a Florida resort during a spat about his will.
Lighting technician Gibbon, who has worked with pop stars like Ed Sheeran and once helped make the late Queen Elizabeth's Christmas TV broadcast, is rumoured to have been dating Wyld - his son's ex.
Both Gibbon and Wyld, 33, denied to police that they were romantically involved with each other.
But neighbours of Gibbon's £800,000 semi-detached home in the posh Buckinghamshire market town of Beaconsfield openly referred to Wyld as Gibbon's girlfriend.
They also expressed their horror at the arrest of the grandad -who they said "kept himself to himself" - over the alleged attempted murder of Wyld.
One neighbour said: "Everybody is shocked by this."
A woman living next door refused to give her name but said she was good friends with the mum-of-two.
She told The Sun: "I'd never have imagined this might happen.
"Jasmine used to stay here a lot with the children. But I don't want to say much more because she is a friend of mine."
Gibbon's large brick-built semi-detached house was empty today with two vans and silver Skoda car parked outside.

There was a statue of Buddha by the front door, along with two stickers saying 'Smile you're on camera'. Net curtains covered the windows.
John Atkinson, 81, who lives across the road, said he was shocked at the situation.
He said: "It's very difficult to countenance that Mark was trying to kill Jasmine.
"Jasmine was often staying with him along with his grandchildren.
"She always struck me as quite a cheerful character.'
It comes after a rift between Gibbon and his son Alex - Wyld's ex-husband - emerged.
Hairdresser Wyld separated from Alex, who she shares two children with, in 2021.
Just two years after they separated, Alex, 34, was jailed for trying to run over his dad in a £80,000 Porsche Cayenne in Beaconsfield.
As well as assaulting his father, Alex also pleaded guilty to harassing ex-wife Wyld.
Alex was sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court to 25 months in jail, a 36-month disqualification from driving, a five-year restraining order, plus a surcharge.

The dad was released from jail around six months ago and went to move in with his mum, who had divorced Gibbon some years earlier.
Alex and his father also became embroiled in a public row in 2023 after Alex left his dad's business for an unknown reason.
It is understood the pair no longer speak.
Gibbon is being held in Polk County Jail - and both he and Wyld denied to cops that they were in a relationship.
A detective asked Gibbon and mum-of-two Wyld "about their relationship to determine if the incident would be classified as domestic violence".
Gibbon is due in court next week over the attempted murder charge levelled against him, and another hearing is set for September for his arraignment on two battery charges.
He and Wyld were on holiday at the Solterra Resort in Devenport, near Disney World, Florida with Wyld's two children - Gibbon's grandkids - when the row over his will erupted, police say.
The pair were arguing when Gibbon allegedly push Wyld's head "under the water and held her down multiple times".
She claimed she "could not breathe" and "believed she was going to drown".
Police say Wyld was forced to "fight Mark in order to get away from him and from under the water but he kept pushing her back under".
Her nine-year-old daughter then leapt to her mother's defence but was pushed away by Gibbon, it is claimed.
Gibbon is alleged to have stopped when two women dialled 911.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said after his arrest: 'Because Mr Gibbon couldn't control his anger, he may find himself spending a lot more time in Florida than he had anticipated.'
When questioned, Gibbon is claimed to have admitted to pushing Jasmine underwater, but insisted he hadn't been trying to drown her.
The case is now being handled by the prosecutor's office.

Mid-air rape horror as businessman, 44, attacks sleeping girl, 15, on flight to Zurich

A businessman has been convicted of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl on a Swiss flight. The 44-year-old married man attacked the teenager, who was sitting next to him, after she fell asleep during the nine-hour journey from Mumbai to Zurich. The perpetrator was on a business trip to Belgium when he committed the crime in March. The girl and the man had a brief, superficial conversation before the minor fell asleep. The man then approached her and performed sexual acts on her and himself. He confessed to the acts in the Bülach District Court and stated that he realized he had made a mistake. He also admitted that the young woman had not consented. It comes as, after controversial debates, the National Council of Switzerland and the Council of States agreed on the formula 'no means no.' The amendment came into effect a year ago and means rape is now considered to have occurred if the victim indicates through words or gestures that they do not consent to the sexual act. Before the amendment, rape only occurred if the perpetrator threatened the victim or used violence. Furthermore, the crime of rape no longer encompasses only forced sexual intercourse with a woman, but now also includes acts similar to sexual intercourse involving physical penetration. The victim's state of shock is sufficient as a sign of rejection. The man was convicted of rape and sexual acts with a child. The man received a suspended sentence of 1.5 years, but will not need to serve it as he has been in custody since March. The judge described the sentence as rather lenient and 'barely appropriate.' The man is banned from entering Switzerland for the next five years and is prohibited from engaging in any activity involving regular contact with minors for life. The proceedings will cost him approximately CHF 9,000 (£8,250). The confiscated CHF 1,360 (£1,247) will be used to cover these costs. After the trial, the man was released from custody and handed over to the Migration Office for deportation.

Hollyoaks star asks late mother's friends not to attend stepfather's funeral

Hollyoaks actor Callum Kerr has requested that friends of his late mother not attend his stepfather's funeral, after the couple were found dead in what is being treated as a murder-suicide. Andrew Searle and Dawn Kerr, who were both aged in their 60s, were found dead in their home in the south of France in the early afternoon of February 6. Mrs Kerr was found lying dead in front of her house, partly undressed and with a significant head injury, while Mr Searle was found hanged inside the property, which is in the hamlet of Les Pesquies in Villefranche-de-Rouergue, Aveyron. Police launched an investigation to establish whether the couple died as a result of a murder-suicide or if a third party was involved. Prosecutor Fabrice Belargent previously said that 'the analysis carried out does not so far show any evidence that a third party was involved'. In a statement on Tuesday, Mr Kerr said it would be 'inappropriate' for his mother's memory to be 'associated with a service honouring the man who, based on all available evidence, may have been responsible for her death'. He called for the funeral arrangements for the pair to be kept separate and for photographs showing the couple together not to be shared. A map of Villefranche-de-Rouergue: The full statement, which is signed by Kerr and his sister Amanda Kerr, reads: 'In the absence of any evidence suggesting third-party involvement in the tragic death of our mother, Dawn Kerr, the prevailing hypothesis remains that of a murder-suicide. 'Our mother was killed by multiple blows to the head, and Andrew was found deceased by hanging. 'His injuries are consistent with self-hanging, and no defensive wounds were found on his body. 'There is also no evidence of any third party's involvement at this stage. 'While the official investigation is still ongoing, we cannot ignore the circumstances as they stand. 'For this reason, we must respectfully but firmly request that our mother not be included in any way in the funeral arrangements being made for Andrew. 'Please do not share photographs of them together. 'Please do not attend Andrew's service if you were a friend of our mother. 'It would be inappropriate for her memory to be associated with a service honouring the man who, based on all available evidence, may have been responsible for her death. 'We ask for understanding, privacy and respect as we continue to grieve and seek justice for our mum.' Callum Kerr played Pc George Kiss in the popular Channel 4 soap opera, and appeared in Netflix 's Virgin River. According to his LinkedIn page, Mr Searle was a retired fraud investigator specialising in financial crime prevention who worked at companies including Standard Life and Barclays. A statement issued by French prosecutors in February said: 'The two deceased persons, a man and a woman, were the owners of the house in which their bodies were discovered. 'They were British expatriates, retired, and had been living in Aveyron for five years. 'The first victim, Ms Kerr, has a significant head injury. 'A box containing jewellery was found near her, but no item or weapon which could have caused the injuries were located. 'Mr Searle, who was found hanged… did not show any visible defensive injuries.'
