Clemson softball second baseman Maddie Moore has been named an All-American for her outstanding 2025 season.
Moore was named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American on Wednesday, the organization announced. It's her second straight All-America honor. A year ago, Moore was a third team All-America selection.
A senior from Del Oro High School in Loomis, Calif., Moore batted .411 in 57 games for the Tigers during their run to the Austin Super Regional of the NCAA Tournament. She led the team in home runs (17), RBIs (71), and added 12 doubles to go with a .472 on-base percentage and a .771 slugging percentage.
Moore's contributions helped Clemson win its first ACC championship in program history. The Tigers rallied on three straight days at the ACC Softball Championships to take down Virginia, Virginia Tech and Florida State for the conference title.
Clemson finished the 2025 season 48-14 overall and went 3-0 at its on-site regional, beating USC Upstate, Northwestern and Kentucky at McWhorter Stadium to advance to the Austin Super Regional against the Texas Longhorns. The Tigers fell, 6-5, in the decisive Game 3 of the Super Regional.

Cade Klubnik, Caleb Downs among early favorites for college football's top awards

The race for college football's most prestigious awards is about to begin, and proven stars and rising sophomores are early frontrunners. From Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik to Ohio State's star tandem of Caleb Downs and Jeremiah Smith, here are six players positioned to add their name in the history books during the 2025-26 season: Fred Biletnikoff Award: Jeremiah Smith Few young receivers have generated as much hype as Ohio State's Jeremiah Smith, who comes off a dominant freshman season. Smith led the Buckeyes with 1,315 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns in 2024, finishing ahead of first-round pick Emeka Egbuka. The No. 1 recruit in the 2024 class delivered for the Buckeyes throughout their national title run, connecting with quarterback Will Howard for 381 yards and five touchdowns in the postseason. At 6-foot-4 with excellent hands and elite route running capabilities, it's hard to keep the ball out of Smith's hands. Jim Thorpe Award: Caleb Downs Two years into his collegiate career, accolades are stacking up for Ohio State safety Caleb Downs. The preseason first-team AP All-American was an immediate standout for the Buckeyes after spending his freshman season at Alabama. Downs was named the Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year after finishing the season with 82 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and six pass break-ups. He was critical to the championship run, consistently locking down threats in the passing and running games. He held tight end and eventual first-round draft pick Tyler Warren to four catches for 47 yards in Ohio State's 20-13 win over Penn State and picked off Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers in the CFP semifinal. Chuck Bednarik Award: Dylan Stewart After a breakout freshman campaign, South Carolina's Dylan Stewart is poised to lead the Gamecocks' defense in 2025. Stewart earned a spot on the SEC All-Freshman team after recording 23 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, four quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a pass breakup. The edge rusher who can also drop into coverage put together one of the best freshman defensive campaigns in South Carolina since Jadeveon Clowney. Though Downs will likely make a strong case, the Bednarik Award has yet to be given to a safety in its 30 years of existence. Stewart is one of just seven sophomores on the watch list for the award. Doak Walker Award: Jeremiyah Love Love is widely considered the top returning running back after playing an integral role in Notre Dame's best season since 1988. The six-foot, 214-pound running back finished the season with 1,125 yards and 17 touchdowns on 163 carries, averaging 70.3 yards per game, 8.5 yards per carry and at least one score in each of the first 13 games. As Notre Dame undergoes a quarterback shift in 2025, Love could see even more opportunities to carry the offense, putting the preseason AP All-American in prime position to take home the Doak Walker Award as the nation's top running back. Outland Trophy: Spencer Fano The Outland Trophy is awarded to the best interior lineman in college football. Texas offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. earned the award in 2024, marking back-to-back Outland Trophy wins for the Longhorns after T'Vondre Sweat won in 2023. We expect the award to stay on the offensive side of the ball in 2025 and Utah's Spencer Fano is a player to watch. He led FBS offensive tackles in 2024 with a 92.7 PFF grade, allowing just two quarterback hits and one sack through 424 pass-block attempts. Fano held his opponents to zero sacks through the last 11 games of the season. The preseason AP All-American has shown versatility, lining up on the right and left sides, and seems a good bet to be a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL draft. Heisman Trophy: Cade Klubnik The most prestigious award in college football is likely to return to the hands of a quarterback in 2025. Arch Manning, Garrett Nussmeier and Cade Klubnik headline early Heisman conversations and possess the best odds heading into the season. Klubnik has the experience Manning lacks, the mobility Nussmeier strives for and enough consistency in the receiving room to hit the ground running in 2025. The Clemson quarterback comes off an impressive 2024-2025 campaign, completing 63.4% of passes for 3,639 yards, 36 touchdowns and six interceptions. A dual-threat, he added 463 yards and seven touchdowns on foot. His 36 touchdowns ranked behind only Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward, who were both selected in the 2025 NFL draft. Clemson landed at No. 4 in the AP Top 25 preseason poll. If Klubnik can measure up to high expectations, the Tigers could have their first Heisman winner since Trevor Lawrence. ___ Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Auburn claims 4 more football national championships, including in 2004 when it didn't make BCS title game

Auburn is trying to catch up to Alabama in the race for claimed national championships. The Tigers announced Tuesday it will recognize themselves as nine-time football champions. The school had previously touted itself as a five-time national champion. But Auburn is no longer going to be humble, according to athletic director John Cohen. 'For too long, Auburn has chosen a humble approach to our program's storied history — choosing to recognize only Associated Press national championships,' Cohen told On3. 'Starting this fall, we have made the decision to honor the accomplishments of our deserving student-athletes, coaches and teams from Auburn's proud history. Our visible national championship recognitions now align with the well-established standard used by the NCAA's official record book and our peers across the nation. Before Tuesday, Auburn claimed titles in 1913, 1957, 1983, 1993 and 2010. Now, titles in 1910, 1914, 1958 and 2004 are being added to the mix. You may remember the BCS existed in 2004, and Auburn did not play for the national championship. The Tigers were 12-0 but were third in the BCS rankings behind undefeated USC and undefeated Oklahoma. After USC blew out the Sooners for the national championship, Auburn finished No. 2 in the final AP Top 25 with three of 65 first-place votes. The other 62 went to USC. The Tigers also finished second in the coaches poll. Auburn's feelings toward being excluded from the BCS title game that year are well-known at this point. You can understand why the Tigers want to claim a national title for that season. But you also have every right to laugh at that claim and recognize it as illegitimate. Pre-BCS titles are murkier, and why a school like Alabama claims 18 national titles. Twelve of those championships came before the BCS and subsequent College Football Playoff existed. For example, Alabama's 1941 title is claimed from a 9-2 season that saw it atop the Houlgate System's rankings. Auburn is also using similar logic. For example, the school's new 1914 title is via the James Howell Power Ratings, though at least Auburn went 8-0-1 that season and didn't allow an opponent to score. If you're worked up about Auburn's decision to suddenly claim four more titles, you can take solace that the Tigers' chances at an official 10th national title don't appear to be very realistic anytime soon. The Tigers are 66-1 to win the 2025 title at BetMGM and have the 10th-best odds to win the SEC.

Oregon quarterback Dante Moore signs with Beats by Dre as part of 2025 'Beats Elite' class

Though Oregon Ducks quarterback Dante Moore has yet to officially be named the starter for this upcoming season, he was recently announced as part of Beats by Dre's 2025 "Beats Elite" class. The honorable NIL deal comprised of nine players in total, including some of the biggest names in college football such as Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams, Ohio State safety Caleb Downs, South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers and others. It's a high honor for Moore to be on this last after spending last season as the Ducks' backup, reflecting the expectations he faces this season as the former five-star recruit attempts to resurrect his college career after disappointing with the UCLA Bruins as a freshman in 2023. During that season, Moore started five games, completing just 53.5% of his passes for 1,610 yards and with an 11:9 touchdown-to-interception ratio. But heading into 2025 at Oregon, the quarterback job is his to lose. Moore's name being mentioned amongst the best in college football is a huge honor, and he'll have a chance to prove he belongs in the upper echelon of stars this fall.
