ESPN: Playful kiss led to Raiders releasing Christian Wilkins
The teammate, who went unnamed, took offense to Wilkins' action, ESPN's Adam Schefter said Monday on "The Pat McAfee Show."
"When you speak to people there, inside the locker room, they say Christian playfully went to kiss a teammate on top of his head, and those same people said that player took offense to it," Schefter said on McAfee's show. "So that's what everybody's been dancing around."
The Raiders released Wilkins last week after one season. The Raiders, who had signed Wilkins in March 2024 to a four-year, $110 million contract with $84.75 million guaranteed, had placed him on the physically unable to perform list before the start of training camp.
Wilkins, 29, had been working his way back from a season-ending Jones fracture to his left foot, sustained in the Raiders' 34-18 loss to the Denver Broncos on Oct. 6. Wilkins did not participate in drills during OTAs in May nor in mandatory minicamp, according to media reports.
ESPN reported that the Raiders have voided the remaining $35.2 million of guaranteed money and that Wilkins filed a grievance with the NFLPA on Thursday.
Wilkins recorded 17 tackles and two sacks in five games (all starts) before having season-ending surgery.
He has totaled 372 tackles, 22.5 sacks, one interception, four forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries in 86 career regular-season games (82 starts) with the Miami Dolphins and Raiders. He was selected by the Dolphins with the 13th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Clemson.

Freddie Freeman remains hot as Dodgers beat Rays
August 3 - Freddie Freeman had three hits and drove in a run as the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-0 in the rubber match of a three-game series on Sunday. Yoshinobu Yamamoto (10-7) allowed five hits with no walks and six strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings. Alex Vesia and Brock Stewart followed before the Rays loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth against Blake Treinen. Ben Casparius replaced Treinen and got Yandy Diaz to ground out for his second save. Junior Caminero and Jake Magnum had two hits apiece for Tampa Bay, which was shut out for the 10th time this season and lost for the fifth time in its last six games. Ohtani had two hits and reached base four times with two stolen bases for Los Angeles, which recorded their fifth shutout and concluded their nine-game road trip with a 5-4 record. The Dodgers were held to three hits over the first five scoreless innings by Joe Boyle, who walked two and struck out two. Mason Englert (0-1) replaced Boyle to begin the sixth inning and allowed a leadoff single to Freeman, who moved to second on Michael Conforto's one-out walk. Andy Pages followed with a single to left field and Freeman beat the throw to the plate, ending the Dodgers' 18-inning scoreless streak. Los Angeles tacked on another run in the seventh inning after Ohtani hit a leadoff single and stole second base. Mookie Betts walked and both runners advanced on a double steal before Freeman singled in a run. Freeman has reached base in 19 straight games and is batting .396 (19-for-48) with two home runs and 12 RBIs in his last 12 games. He drove in four of the Dodgers' eight runs in the weekend series. The Rays threatened in the fifth inning with runners on the corners with one out. Yamamoto escaped the jam when Diaz popped out and Brandon Lowe struck out. Los Angeles added an insurance run in the ninth on Betts' sacrifice fly against Griffin Jax, who was making his Rays debut. Los Angeles second baseman Tommy Edman exited the game in the fifth inning with a right ankle sprain after hitting a one-out single. --Field Level Media

Colts star Salvon Ahmed rushed to the hospital after illegal tackle by teammate in practice
Colts running back Salvon Ahmed had to be carted off the field and taken to the hospital after he was the victim of an illegal hip-drop tackle in practice. Ahmed screamed in pain after the tackle by teammate Trey Washington in the end zone on Sunday. It has been reported that the running back's right ankle was stuck in an 'awkward position'. The 26-year-old was put on a stretcher, while his teammates gathered around him, took a knee, and said a prayer. Ahmed was then taken to the hospital for X-rays amid fears over a serious injury to his lower right leg. Hip-drop tackles were banned last season due to the number of injuries they can cause. Washington, an undrafted free agent, was said to be 'down in the dumps' after hurting his teammate. 'You never want to see that happen,' Colts head coach Shane Steichen said. 'I know we don't encourage hip-drop tackles. 'I know Trey's down in the dumps, and I don't think he's trying to do that. We're just trying to create an edge... those (backups) are going to have to tackle come preseason.' Steichen added: 'I think training camp is where you want to create the edge and the toughness and the identity of your football team, so you have live periods.' Ahmed is a five-year veteran of the NFL who played 38 games for the Miami Dolphins between 2020 and 2023. Following his injury on Sunday, Indianapolis briefly stopped training camp to huddle before finishing its final practice period of the day. 'There's guys out here that need those reps to compete and get better,' linebacker Zaire Franklin, a long-time friend of Ahmed, said per ESPN. 'We're trying to be the best team that we can be so we can win. We've got to keep pushing ourselves.' Steichen added: 'There's a lot of thoughts going on in my head during that situation. I talked to some of the leaders on the team. We wanted to get that last 2-minute situation in. Felt that we needed that. They were on board with that.'
