Hurricane Erin 2025 has strengthened into the first Atlantic hurricane of the season and is moving toward the Caribbean, bringing the threat of heavy rain and flash floods to the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. The US National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported that as of 1800 GMT, Hurricane Erin 2025 had maximum sustained winds of 75 miles (120 kilometers) per hour and was located about 415 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands.
Authorities have issued tropical storm watches for Anguilla, Barbuda, and Saint Martin. The NHC warns that Hurricane Erin 2025 could trigger isolated but significant flash floods, landslides, and mudslides from late Friday into Sunday.
'Steady to rapid strengthening is expected over the next two to three days, and Erin is forecast to become a major hurricane during the weekend,' the NHC said, with Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas in its projected path.
