Social Welfare Minister orders inquiry into TIDCO housing irregularities in Visakhapatnam
Minister for Social Welfare Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy has ordered for constitution of a special committee to conduct an inquiry into the alleged irregularities reported in the TIDCO houses. He made the decision after a number of public elected representatives from the district raised concerns about the irregularities in the construction, sanctioning and registration process of TIDCO houses. They have also pointed out irregularities in preparing the beneficiary lists.
The discussions were held during the District Review Committee (DRC) meeting held at the Collectorate here on Friday.
During the meeting, the Minister said that the officials should cooperate as per government regulations with individuals constructing houses on their own land. He also directed them to take up awareness campaigns and said that those building houses on plots under 100 square yards should not face any obstacles regarding self-certification.
Mr. Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy said that Visakhapatnam has the highest revenue-generating potential in the country, and it offers immense opportunities for development. He said that the efforts should be directed towards long-term solutions and delivering quality services to the public. He said that the government introduced G.O. No. 30 for the regularisation of encroachments in a way that benefits the poor, and stressed the need to further explain its importance and benefits to the public.
Summer action plan
As part of the summer action plan, he said that steps should be taken to provide drinking water to people across the district. He instructed officials to make additional water tanks available, keeping in view the summer conditions.
Defunct streetlights
The Minister called for speedy completion of masterplan roads and other projects within the VMRDA limits. He also reviewed the maintenance of the local reservoirs. When public representatives complained about the defunct streetlights in various parts of the city, the Minister immediately directed officials to conduct an audit and ensure that streetlights are installed wherever necessary.
Visakhapatnam West MLA P.G.V.R. Naidu alias Ganababu raised several key issues, including TIDCO housing construction. He also complained about number of ganja-related groups and urged for immediate action. He also called for the construction of an underpass at Kakaninagar. Responding to this, the VMRDA Commissioner K.S. Viswanathan said works will begin soon.
Pendhurthi MLA Panchakarla Ramesh Babu expressed concern over the delay in the development works of the Vepagunta–Pinagadi road, stating that the work has been pending for the past eight months. He said that the project should be taken up on a fast-track basis. In response, District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad clarified that the issue has already been brought to the attention of the government and that road construction will soon commence with the assistance from the New Development Bank (NDB).
Zones to be reorganised
During the meeting, Mr. Harendhira Prasad informed the Ministers and other public representatives that the zones within the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) limits will be reorganised for administrative convenience. He explained that the current zones will be restructured in alignment with the respective Assembly constituencies. He said that steps are being taken to ensure that each constituency will be in one zone. The public representatives responded positively to the proposals.
MP M. Sribharat, Andhra Pradesh TDP president Palla Srinivasa Rao, MLAs Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu, P. Vishnu Kumar Raju, Vamsikrishna Srinivas, MLCs Botcha Satyanarayana and Varudu Kalyani, and others were present.

Did Pakistan destroy India's Sukhoi and S-400 in Adampur, Bhuj airbases? Expert debunks claim; THIS is what he said
Pakistan, in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, has been claiming to have successfully attacked India. New reports have also claimed that Islamabad was successful in hitting the Adampur air base in Punjab and causing damage to a Sukhoi-30 MKI standing there. However, Damien Symon, a top imagery analyst of Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) has junked this claim, saying that Pakistan used an image from before the conflict to support its narrative. In a post on X, Symon alleged that the image used by Pakistan was taken in March, which pre-dates the recent India-Pakistan conflict. 'New report alleges a direct hit at India's Adampur Air Base by Pakistan damaged a Su-30, however a review reveals this image taken in March 2025, pre-conflict actually shows a MiG-29 undergoing maintenance, the dark soot near the engine test pad is routine, not battle damage,' the expert said. Livemint was not able to verify the authenticity of Pakistan's claim or Symon's version. Pakistan has also made a similar claim about destroying an S-400 radar of India in Bhuj. Damien Symon debunked this claim too, saying that the claimed damage is likely to be just oil stains in the service yard. 'An image is being circulated now as a Pakistan destroyed S-400 radar in India, a review however indicates it's likely just oil stains at Bhuj military base's vehicle service yard, also the image predates the recent Indo-Pak conflict as it was taken in February 2025,' he wrote in an X post. Livemint could not verify this claim either. This article will be updated if there is an official statement from India regarding the matter. On May 7, India launched Operation Sindoor to strike nine terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir in response to the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22, where terrorists killed 26 people, mostly tourists. Following the attack, Pakistan retaliated with cross-border shelling across the Line of Control and Jammu and Kashmir. Islamabad further attempted drone attacks along the border regions. In response, India launched a coordinated attack and damaged radar infrastructure, communication centres, and airfields across 11 airbases in Pakistan. After this, on May 10, an understanding of the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan was announced.

CPI(M) demands regularisation of houses built by poor on govt. lands
Communist Party of India-Marxist [CPI(M)] State Secretary V. Srinivasa Rao on Sunday (June 8) demanded that the government give land titles to the poor residing in houses on government land, as per the G.O. No. 30. Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said the G.O. 30, issued in January to provide houses to the poor, has not been implemented. The G.O. clearly states that titles should be issued to those residing even on objectionable government land and that their settlements be regularised. The government did not carry out any door-to-door campaign, and even when people voluntarily submitted applications, the process remains pending. In places like Palakoderu, applications were not even accepted and were summarily rejected, he pointed out. In West Godavari district, the officials demolished the houses even after the residents applied for regularisation. Action should be taken against such officers and the police who carried out the demolitions, and houses should be built immediately or alternative homes provided at the same locations, he said. CPIM State secretariat member Ch. Babu Rao said the kind of attention being given to 'Yogandhra' should instead be focused on 'Gr̥hāndhra' (Home-Andhra) and 'Nivāsāndhra' (Residential-Andhra), but unfortunately, the government is not taking up such work. During the elections, the NDA promised to provide house sites—three cents in villages and two cents in towns—to the people. Now that a year has passed since the NDA came to power, he demanded that the government release a White Paper, detailing how many people have actually received the house sites.

Pakistan's Claim Of Destroying Su-30 Fighter At Adampur Air Base Debunked By Expert
Pakistan was once again left red-faced after its claim that its army had attacked and damaged a Sukhoi-30MKI at India's Adampur air base during a four-day military conflict last month was refuted by a top OSINT imagery analyst. In a post on X, Damien Symon, a top OSINT imagery analyst, pointed out that Pakistan used pre-conflict images to promote its narrative about Operation Sindoor. 'New report alleges a direct hit at India's Adampur Air Base by Pakistan damaged a Su-30, however a review reveals this image taken in March 2025, pre-conflict actually shows a MiG-29 undergoing maintenance, the dark soot near the engine test pad is routine, not battle damage,' he said in a post on X.
